Many, many, years ago, I was at a linux conference, and happened upon a stall that was selling various little open source source trinkets.

Amongst their items were little 'Tux' case badges.

I bought a whole sheet and have happily affixed them on many cases.

I've said this before.

My wife inverts her mouse. Not let me be clear she doesn't change the direction in software, she literally reverses her mouse on her desk so the cord is facing up.

She's a monster.

Probably the buttons swapped - right button is "click", left button is "context menu" type of thing.

Another image I can't parse. Every wired mouse I've used had the wire coming out the top. (as you look at it from above)

So it operates by boat-steering rules, you move the mouse left to go right, instead of car-steering rules, you move the mouse right to go right?

Or counter-steering on a motorcycle.

Same here, (Logitech TrackMan Marble) ever since I was told to 'stop playing the violin' back in 1996.

(Rotator cuff injury caused by mousing, no less, I'd never even tried to learn how to play a violin)

I actually just said "**** off" to a VIP caller.

Fortunately, they had already hung up the phone.

Just took a consult from a T1. It went like this:

Person created a Teams channel, but they didn't add themself to the Teams channel, so they can't see the Teams channel, so they tried to create the Teams channel again but they couldn't because it already exists.

Can anybody see the Teams channel?

Yes, but they don't have permission to add other people to it.

Escalate.

Tip I learned the hard way, don't make a habit of that.

You start doing it on the reg and sooner or later your timing is going to be off and it's gonna come out before they hang up.

In the past quick thinking saved me in a similar circumstance when I was called out. I added, "It's something happening in the office."

Buttons swapped and I move it around with the left as well, despite being strongly right-handed. I hit on that years ago when the carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand became near disabling. By moving that one common task to the other hand, I've shared the activity better and no longer have significant CTS problems with the right. It's the buttons being swapped that always messed up the IT people.
Of course, now there's arthritis, but that's another story.

My wife also uses the buttons swapped, but moves the mouse with her right hand, due to an injury to her right index finger.

I really wish some people would learn to use English proper.

This is a technical explanation we received this morning for a problem that has been ongoing for some time:

"...we believe that what we are seeing for most users is that some of the office com add-ins reduce the performance of MS Office to a point that when another process that also consumes resources occur, Office usability can reduce to the point where there it significant impacts on useability."

Okay, thanks for that.

Well, it's not great but it does convey the intended meaning so it's not complete garbage. It's not like when they put in tickets that read "HELP I NEED HLEP MY COPMUTER STOP!!!!!!!!!!! FIX" or "nogran pfreing, please advise immediately" or "hi my name is margaret is this thing on i dont know computers its not doing anything my grandson said to unplug it but i cant find the part that goes in can you help me its margaret i sit by the window".

I may have posted this before, but we once received this request in our portal:

Quote:
Aquí Moni, Ajá. Pentecostés, puerta de tu padre o Pitágoras. Buena tarde. El fin de simple episodio para dar una vuelta por Internet que me ancho.
I ran it through Google Translate, which auto-recognised it as Portuguese, and provided this translation:

Quote:
Here Moni, Aha. Pentecost, your father's door or Pythagoras. Good afternoon. The end of a simple episode to take a tour of the Internet that widens me.

It couldn't possibly be any clearer, I hope you leapt to enact this most reasonable request to widen the requester with an Internet tour. "We have such sites to show you!"

Heh, I, too, have worked with engineers and architects before. Being somewhat ambidextrous, this is usually no problem for me to help fix their PC.

Obviously a MUCH better translation!

My attempt also auto-detected Spanish, but I tried switching it to Portuguese and got this.

I credit the old Doctor Who episode "Pyramids of Mars" for explaining that one to me the best.

Which is why they produce hundreds of left wings but no right wings, and expect that if you simply turn some of them upside-down, they can be stuck on the other side of the planes.

Unfortunately the existence of good service desks (like mine) does not negate the existence of bad ones. And believe me, in my years in the industry I've heard some horror stories.

This is a technical explanation we received this morning for a problem that has been ongoing for some time:

Okay, thanks for that.

For only society can give or concede it to them; they themselves cannot take it, or give it to themselves.

Me: Are you sure you want the date fields to be varchar?
Them: Yes.
Me: What format should I put the dates into?
Them: Oh, any is fine.

I don't think they're actually going to use this data at all.

You start doing it on the reg and sooner or later your timing is going to be off and it's gonna come out before they hang up.
