Let's be honest Trump doesn't slur and trip over his words nearly as much as Biden.
When Trump misspeaks, he's usually able to avoid scrutiny over it because he just layers word salad over it. |

The only good thing I can say about Trump* is he was fough to a standstill on most politicies, and do nothing governments tend to be better than do something from a libertarian point of view.
* Not technically true. He resisted national lockdowns in favor of letting states do it. Don't grant the executive emergency powers is probably the single greatest lesson of history. Of course that may have been an accidental side effect while trying to avoid piling on an emergency he was trying to undersell, rather than a principled stancchaha hahahaha principled stance. |

Public Service Announcement: You can dislike Trump all you want without having to pretend you don't notice Joe Biden's mental decline.

Biden's decline (and I think there is some, just not as much as the Trumpists trumpet...) will not lead to psychopathic or sociopathic behavior. Trump's mental illness seems to get more dangerous by the week.
Another thing that the "but look, Biden fumbles over words" crowd for some reason willfully ignores is that Biden has Tourette's or something very similar. Which is in no way indicative of cognitive decline. |

A question was asked and I replied with a few answers; there are more, including Trump's stumbling, bumbling "ran the ramparts" nonsense but Trump humpers will always find excuses for his incoherence.
But I agree, Diaper Don's vocabulary and oration are indeed less than spectacular. ETA: Let's not forget "orangezz" and "covfefe." He even slurs when he tweets. |

I think we need to remember, too, that Biden has a well-known stammer that he is constantly dealing with. Stammering isn't just not being able to get a word out, but about how people learn to get around it by changing the word or course of thought which can look like tripping up or even 'getting lost'.

Changing the subject or your train of thought mid-sentence does indeed look like the beginnings of dementia or other neurological deterioration. However whatever he is going through it definitely seems to be worse than how he was during the 2020 debates. I mean seriously, the man is 80 years old. I seriously think we need to limit the age of presidential candidates to 75 or even 70. Age is a real thing and normal deterioration of the brain as age progresses is real we should not make believe it's just a conspiracy theory. Am I the only one who is tired of elderly men running this country???

That is not what I said. I said "changing the word or course of thought". If a stammerer gets stuck on a word, changing the word to one that doesn't 'stick' for him is a classic way to cope with the stammer. I also didn't say "train of thought", I said "course of thought" but I could have described it better by saying, "coming at it from a different angle". I meant they come from a different direction to express the same thought to get around the 'sticking' part. It's like taking an off ramp on the freeway to bypass an accident and getting back on by using the on ramp just past the blockage.
Being tired of elderly men running the country is not the same thing as preventing any elderly person from running or being elected. Frankly, I know 80+ year olds, like Nancy Pelosi, who can outmaneuver younger morons like MTG, Boebert, Santos, Cawthorn, Tuberville, and Gohmert who are all under 70. |

There's a common reason for older people to slur their speech that has nothing to do with strokes or dementia: denture slippage.

Boys, boys! There's a new proposed amendment to disallow any president, senator, or congressman from taking office after age 75. All your concerns can be solved!

I 100% support a upper age limit to the Presidency. Only problem is I would lower the cut off to 70.

And now in the age discussion comes Nancy Pelosi's announcement she will run for the House again in 2024.
Nancy, look at Feinstein and McConell. You really want to go down that road/ ANd I am seeing, on some other sites, a huge amount of hypocrisy. people who were ridiculing McCOnell are cheearing for Nancy and saying anybody who thinks she might be too old are "Ageist". Another reason I am not a Progressive. |

I would vote for an amendment preventing anyone over 70 from taking federal office.

As was pointed out last night by Chris Hayes, Reagan and Mondale were tied at this time before that election and Reagan won by 20 points. Clinton and Bob Dole were also tied at this time and Clinton trounced Dole in the election.
It's quite silly to put any stock in any pole this far out. |

I do not expect Trump to give up power if he gets elected in 2024. The best we can hope for is that he will die. But that will only give his VP the chance to run for re-election and try to steal the election if they lose. I fully expect Trump, if he is elected in 2024 and is still alive by then, to do everything he can to hold onto power after his term expires.

I may be engaging in wishful thinking, but I really don't see Trump getting much more than the hard core MAGA votes (40% of popular vote max). He is very likely to have multiple felony convictions by then, and will be either in prison possibly still loose pending appeals.

The economy here definitely went south during the first half of Biden's term (due IMO, primarily to Trump's policies, and Covid lockdowns and other Covid countermeasures, but it has improved significantly in the past year. A lot of people blamed that on Biden and I don't think they have credited him with the recent improvments. I hope that will change by the next election

I don't expect Trump to run in 2028 if he is elected in 2024. I expect him to find some lame excuse for cancelling the election and remaining in power. Whether he succeeds at that remains to be seen. Or, with any luck at all, we make damn sure he doesn't get a chance to try by not electing him. The Constitution is meaningless if Trump consolidates enough power in the government and the military to get away with ignoring it. And I have no doubt that is exactly what he will do, or try to do if he is elected in 2024/

I think you are engaging in wishful thinking. IMO those who will likely vote for President Trump in 2024 are:
As has been repeatedly demonstrated, a candidate can lose the popular vote by a considerable margin and still triumph overall so long as they get the votes in the key states. IMO President Trump has a significant chance of winning in 2024 which grows as people are disgruntled with the economy and as the GOP stirs up controversy over Hunter Biden. Given an ill wind and plenty of publicity during the various Trump trials I can see President Trump being the firm favourite. ![]() |
