This from "Broadening our Understanding of Anti-Authority Movements in Canada." August 2017. by Barbara Perry, David C. Hofmann and Ryan Scrivens.

https://www.researchgate.net/profile...-in-Canada.pdf

Quote:
Despite obvious similarities between Canadian Sovereign Citizens and FOTL, there is a sharp contrast between the core beliefs and methods between both movements, although not as pronounced as their American counterparts. Netolitsky (2016a) implies that one distinction may be along the left-right political spectrum. He characterizes FOTL as leftist, often engaging in environmental, anti-globalization, and pro-marijuana activism (p. 624). Sovereign Citizens, on the other hand, are more ideologically associated with their similarly named American counterparts (Meads v. Meads, 2012), who embrace right-wing values surrounding issues such as gun ownership, identity politics, antisemitism, and more recently, anti-Muslim worldview. . .

I contend that the line between the two ideologies has become more blurred since the August 2017 publication of the above work. I believe that in an attempt to regain relevance many freemen including their guru, Robert Menard, have courted sovereign citizens and associated alt.right groups by aping their antisemitism, and anti-Muslim worldview.

If you head over to Bobby Menard's Facebook page you can see a few of his followers using the comments section as a forum to excuse the rude, hateful behavior of the Covington Catholic kids and sling some hate speech at native Americans.

Isn't funny how what's left of the freemen brain trust tells us bigotry and hate is really just free speech, but when anybody calls them out for their hate filled utterances that magically becomes slander.
