I don't think that means what you think it means.

Even aside from certain categorical prerequisites, no Mafia boss would ever let someone like Trump in any position of responsibility.

Not that there's any question of his guilt in many matters, or that such knowledge was common as far back as you mention. But any organized crime family would view him as a clown, a chump, a tool, and a source of income. Not as anyone worthy of being part of their operation.

I didn't realise that a "made man" in the mafia sense had to be Italian, i.e. family. So there, I missed the mark.

But Trump has been involved in mafia activities probably from his earliest life, learning from his father. Whether he has to be in a responsible position to be made, I don't know. But he has been a "useful" chump and clown for decades, especially as a front-man and diversion. If they gave out recognition for being made, I'm sure the mafia would have given Donny an extra big, shiny badge to keep him sweet.

Sure. And few would offer serious argument against this.

But aside from the rather stringent blood quantum requirements, the main qualification for being "made" in the sense you were referring to is for that person to have proven themselves to show such qualities as loyalty, competence, and productivity in service to the goals of the head of the family.

No one has ever accused Trump of any of these traits in service to anyone but himself, ever. And he doesn't even rate that high where he himself is concerned.

You nailed it with 'useful chump and clown'. No need to try and build him up beyond that.

About twenty years ago I read several books written by FBI agents about their experiences battling organized crime. Sounds plausible, it's not like he doesn't have the resources to kick off appeal after appeal.

Then again, Donald Trump has been suspected of being a dodgy businessman for decades and there has been an absence of actual criminal charges. I'm not sure that's going to change.

If he does get convicted and sentenced to house arrest, I hope Dems hold a press conference and say “house arrest is appropriate for people with severe health problems.”

It’ll drive Trump nuts to have it implied that he is not in perfect health.

And when the Reps say “how dare you say the president has health problems,” the Dems can say “what are you talking about? We never said Trump’s name.”

Sounds plausible, it's not like he doesn't have the resources to kick off appeal after appeal. Then again, Donald Trump has been suspected of being a dodgy businessman for decades and there has been an absence of actual criminal charges. I'm not sure that's going to change.

And when the Reps say “how dare you say the president has health problems,” the Dems can say “what are you talking about? We never said Trump’s name.”
