The obvious solution is to make voters take some sort of test, so that only the intellectual elite be allowed to vote.

No reason less intelligent voters should have any say in government.

It's true the 2016 election is over, but the protesters are objecting to Trump's 2020 campaign which is already running.

IMO, it's not the intelligence of the voters that's the problem. It's either that we need to impart critical thinking skills, or we need to control the fake news. Neither task is likely to be accomplished any time soon.

I know more than a few Trump supporters. I don't get it personally, but they are not dumb people. They just view the world through a different lens - and there are a lot of them, obviously.

In some way, once the flash of MOAB extinguishes and one's sight adjusts, all that is left in plain view is an opaque presidency.

Not much time ago my fear was Trump successfully implementing a typical populist movement with all its implications. A friend of mine here, with whom I hardly ever agree, told me to wait because Trump could make some intelligent moves as POTUS. Both saw abilities Trump lacks.

That doesn't mean that the populist avenue was averted. Au contraire, Trump proved that any idiot can cease power by exploiting the anti-democratic electoral system of the United States. Now it's just time to wait for the right would-be authoritarian leader, someone much less flashy, even likeable and well-mannered -and for those exact reasons, extremely dangerous-.

The key was the poll above showing the difference in Republican opinions on Syria depending on the president attacking her. Those people are the updated, post-modern version of the bunch depicted in Fromm's Escape from Freedom.

I've read that he's asked to ride in the Queen's fancy gold horse carriage when he visits Britain.

Sadly, just as a lot of Republicans think that being poor is an indication of personal failure, so too do they think that being conned is an indication of stupidity.

I'm confused. It's the pro-Trump GOP we were talking about here. Are you saying they believe themselves to be stupid?

I give people a chance to learn from mistakes before calling them stupid if they get conned. But I'm sorry, Trump was so obviously conning people (he had a long history of conning people that was out there for all to see) that it's hard to consider anyone who believed him to be intelligent.

No, I'm saying that if the pro-Trump GOP were to admit that they got conned (which is pretty obvious at this point), they feel that they would be admitting to being stupid. Therefore, they will not admit to having been conned.

I was responding to this post:

http://www.internationalskeptics.com...&postcount=271

The author divided the country into winners and losers, and painted Trump voters as dumb.

I doubt he's a Republican.

It's polite to use spoilers if you're going to reveal stuff from the next season of Doctor Who.

Huh? Or did I miss a reference?

School should go another six weeks or so right?
But beyond that... I was surprised to read Friday or yesterday that they may be staying at the Tower through the summer.

NYC beancounters are not amused.

You don't get the popcorn? You think Melania wants to give up the NY highlife and live in the WH? Think she doesn't like sleeping apart from the Donald?

Wasn't it established a month and change back that there are laws, actual real laws against politicking under the auspices of the administration?

I'm not up on what's kosher and what's not, but POTUS just tweeted (what else) excoriating "the Dems" regarding tomorrows Georgia special election.

I'm sure we'll have a thread on it if I'm right, but... wasn't he warned about this not long ago?

eta: In 20 months we're all going to find out this was all just a plot by Eric, Don Jr. and Ivanka to inherit early.

Trump's new favorite book has almost no words in it. Right wingers think it's a joke on liberals. In reality it says more about their reading level.

Reading would seriously cut back on his main information source, fox news.

Yeah... you can bully, bluster, braggadocio all you want (it's another topic, but it's what the rest of us hate about the "New York state of mind"), but I suspect sometime very shortly ( months, weeks ?) someone is soon to discover why high officials grey rapidly in office (vs. whatever the hell that current color is).

Another, if Obama had done it they'd be charging him with treason, moment for Trump.

The Donald forgets to put his hand over his heart for the national anthem and the immigrant standing next to him has to remind him.

I'm feeling distaste, and incredulousness, over several of the statements, indeed concepts, quoted there.

I am aghast... and almost too tired to fight it.

Winning the electoral system was the contest he was in.

Why is that 'exploiting'?

It's fixed now.

This is a confusing distinction. Winning/losing is the outcome; dishonestly, exploitation, demagoguery...etc. are all means of winning or losing.

"That guy didn't make the basket, his team won."
"Right, cause he made the basket."
"No, because they won..."

I really don't follow.

He had to win the election system in place to 'cease power'.

He didn't have to win the popular vote, that's all i'm saying.
