The president of the United States actually wrote that?

I saw an interview with Michael Moore recently where he blamed New York City for inflicting Trump on America. He said everybody in New York knew who and what Trump really was, but instead of slapping him down as a fraud and a crook with mob connections, everybody treated him as an amusing entertainer and fed his fantasies. And now here we are. |

I don't agree with that totally but there is a lot of truth in it. Trump was a semi-regular on the Late Show with David Letterman appearing thirty times. But having a regular diet of Trump over the years I think most New Yorkers were wise to him. Back in 2015 I wrote here that I was astounded to see Trump mentioned as being in the running for the 2016 Republican presidential candidacy. I wrote that he had "zero chance."
People in the entertainment business also blame Mark Burnett, the producer of The Apprentice for reinventing and repackaging Trump in a way that explains a lot of his popularity outside New York City. (Trump lost the 2016 vote in NYC by 20-80 and was booed when he arrived to vote at his neighborhood polling station.)

He has always been allowed to do and say whatever he wanted without consequence. Nobody ever said "NO" to him; everyone he knows fawns over him or genuflects in awe. He has always had someone else clean up his crapped diaper situations for him. So he has never had to take any notice or responsibility for his failures. He believes everyone lives in awe of his (so-called) wealth. He is as vain AF.
He needs a good kick in the balls, literally and metaphorically. |

This whole idea that the only reason we have problems is because all those uppity elitist in power just aren't as smart as they think they are with their fancy book learning and don't realize they are making the problem more complicated then it really is and all it's gonna take is a salt of the Earth person with some common sense and street smarts to go in there and cut right through the Gordian Knot is one of the core prospects of Trump's persona that he sells to his followers. It's always 100% insane nonsense. It's trying to solve poverty by having the government "just print more money." It's telling someone who is having problem with a Unix box to "Just buy a Mac." It's telling a depressed person "Just stop being sad."
That's why even on the rare occasions he actually proposes a solution to something it's a 5 year old's understanding of how real solutions to real problems work; rarely anything deeper or more complicated then "Just stop having the problem, have you tried that?" But again this is all academic because actually solving problems is not in Trump's best interest. |

Dov Hikind is a Jewish-American politician who represented Brooklyn's heavily Jewish 48th District as an Assemblyman for over 35 years.
He's a member of the Democratic Party but often breaks ranks to support or endorse Republican Candidates. He's generally well respected within the Jewish community from what I can gather (I don't have like my thumb on the pulse of that to speak with any authority on who and who isn't respected in any sort of declarative way obviously) but has also been involved in several controversies of multiple varieties in the last few years; wearing blackface, some corruption charges, a weird twitter feud with AOC that ending with her blocking him and him suing her and seems to have made a hobby of calling progressive, farther left politicians anti-Semites. |
