Why Do I Need A New App?

So there was a Windows 10 update ….

Now I can't watch Youtubes on my PC.
It tells me, "You need a new app to open this rtsp." And tells me to get one at Windows store. But the store has only two unrelated apps, the free one of which is not really available (I click on it and nothing happens.)
Why? Oh why?

Ah, good news! I can play youtubes in Firefox.
The question should be, "Apathia, why are you using Bing and Microsoft Explorer?"

Can you give some context? Are you clicking on a link in a browser at the youtube website? Or out of a browser clicking on a file you downloaded from youtube? Or what?

The Google Fascists probably just want you to use Chrome.

Youtube website on my PC. This only applies to Microsoft Explorer/Edge/Being. It alone has this bug.

I've updated Flash. No change.
I've reinstalled Edge, and gotten the message that "Microsoft will no longer support Flash after December 2020." Well, it's not supporting YouTube now.

Repeat for clarification. I cannot watch Youtube videos on Microsoft Edge.

This is why I've hated updating my O.S. as far back as when I used DOS. Without fail, some driver or two would be killed and, sure enough, it would be a driver there were no updates available for.

Why are you using Microsoft Explorer in the first place?

Precisely. I'm using Edge, which is really Internet Explorer in disguise. And then selected Bing.

So I asked for the abuse.

It really isn't IE in disguise, it's really Chrome in disguise!

Indeed!

Saw that when I updated Edge. "Chromium."
With the current version of Edge, I no longer get the window telling me I need a new app. It simply does nothing to open a YouTube at the YouTube site.

Of course when anything weird begins to happen you can try restarting the computer to see if that alone fixes it. Have you done a restart since this problem?

We should be able to talk you through a fix. There is nothing about the Edge browser that should prevent you from watching YouTube. That's also true for a Windows update. It should not kill YouTube. Are you able to view videos on other sites besides YouTube?

"Restart" Did that first.

I can watch Youtubes that are hosted by other sites when in Edge, but current circumstances do not allow me to watch a YouTube at youtube.com when in Edge. I have no YouTube problems with Firefox and Chrome. This is only about YouTube and Edge.

The second thing i did was clear the browser history and cookies.

Third thing: I did a search for solutions to my specific problem. There was nothing current and solutions for similar "You need to download a new app"s did not work.

I reinstalled an updated version of both Flash and Edge. Problem persists.

In the meanwhile I use Firefox.

Tell me about the Bing thing which you mentioned. Did you install a Bing app or the Bing Bar?

Apathia, why are you using Bing and Microsoft Explorer?

ETA - I just did the massive windows update here, and I just checked - yes I am able to view youtube videos on microsoft edge.

Random thought - are you at the httpS://youtube.com site? See the little padlock icon in the address bar? I can't even make my computer open youtube without the s, but it's a thought.

It's Edge. I thought Edge was some kind of fancy version of Explorer. I have been corrected.

I use Bing browser in Edge. My bad!

Ladies, Gentleman, and People like me,

The solution was to simply go to settings in Edge and restore to default settings.

Now no problem!

And also no more badda-Bing!

Was it Bing Bar that you had installed as an add-on to Edge?

No bar. Just Bing as start page.

I've been binged enough.
