Aannnnddd ...

As expected the case has made it to the supreme Court. Sort of.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/13/trum...x-returns.html

Trump's lawyers have asked for access to his financial records to be temporary blocked from prosecutors until they hear/rule on the appeal.

At this point there is no guarantee the court will even hear his appeal. (They could simply look at lower court rulings and say "this case isn't worth our time to hear.)

A quick&easy way to reform the tax system would be to start with the premise that everything that Trump did should be illegal.

Fun development: through a shell company, Trump has a previously-unreported bank account in China. While its balance and purpose isn't known, it has paid $188k in Chinese taxes.

CNN story

I'm sure the fact that Trump has paid more than 200 times as much in taxes to China as the US will not come up at all in Thursday's debate.

I think that it might be worth adding to that a little, to poke at another person's quoting of the NYT article -

Quote:
In 2017, the company [Trump International Hotels Management] reported an unusually large spike in revenue — some $17.5 million, more than the previous five years’ combined. It was accompanied by a $15.1 million withdrawal by Mr. Trump from the company’s capital account.

<snip?>

On the president’s public financial disclosures for that year, he reported the large revenue figure, and described it only as “management fees and other contract payments.”
That's more than a little fishy.

Whatever Trump accuses someone else of doing is always a solid lead to something Trump is guilty of.

Not about his taxes, but his finances, Forbes is reporting that Trump's debts are larger than previously known, with nearly a billion coming due in the next 4 years

Oh yay! An October surprise! Trump paid way more taxes to China than he paid to the US.

From the CNN link:
Quote:
Trump Organization lawyer Alan Garten, who refused to name the Chinese bank that holds the account, told the Times in a statement that the Trump Organization "opened an account with a Chinese bank having offices in the United States in order to pay the local taxes" tied with its push to do business in the country.
In order to pay taxes with his push to do business there? You mean like all that money Ivanka is making with her patented clothing line?

Or is this to pay taxes on all those vacation houses the Trumps were marketing to Chinese citizens as tickets to US citizenship?

But the large money transfers in 2017 remain the absolutely most surprising and between that and the 'paying more taxes to China than to the US' make for wonderful Oct surprises.

That NYT article is just full of surprises:
Quote:
Senate Republicans produced a report asserting, among other things, that Mr. Biden’s son Hunter “opened a bank account” with a Chinese businessman, part of what it said were his numerous connections to “foreign nationals and foreign governments across the globe.”

But Mr. Trump’s own business history is filled with overseas financial deals, and some have involved the Chinese state. He spent a decade unsuccessfully pursuing projects in China, operating an office there during his first run for president and forging a partnership with a major government-controlled company.

And it turns out that China is one of only three foreign nations — the others are Britain and Ireland — where Mr. Trump maintains a bank account, according to an analysis of the president’s tax records, which were obtained by The New York Times. The foreign accounts do not show up on Mr. Trump’s public financial disclosures, where he must list personal assets, because they are held under corporate names. The identities of the financial institutions are not clear.
I picture Hillary looking at this and thinking, 'Payback's a bitch', Bwahahahahahaha.
