Deuteronomy 18:22
"And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’— 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." As none of the biblical prophecies* have been demonstrated to have actually come true, we can assume using the bible's own logic that the bible is not god's and a false book. got it! *By Prophecy I mean the elements of the bible which are not either so generic that can be fulfilled by anything, nor post hoc additions." |

I take it you (kmortis, always have to be careful with those pronouns) meant the chance to be smaller than the reciprocal of Avogadro's number? So my prediction "DOC won't come up with evidence of these prophecies" is not eligible for the MDC? Damn. ETA: oh well, Planck's constant - still same idea. |

"Rarely, but occasionally"? Is that the same thing as "Never, but sometimes"? Or perhaps "infrequently, but often"? I've noticed that apologists like to hide the fact that they have nothing by making their writings verbose and obtuse. The OP said nothing about "prophets", but instead concerned prophecy. You're not trying to pretend otherwise, are you? That would be dishonest. |

A minor nitpick here, but even if a person were claiming they were speaking for Yahweh (assuming he even existed in the first place) and what the thing does happen or come to pass there's still no reason to believe that the person is actually acting or speaking for Yahweh and not for, say, Lucifer (assuming they actually existed in the first place as well).

What's in a name? A pointlessly cruel, ruthless and despotic ruler of hell who supposedly roasts and tortures you in hell for all eternity pointlessly, cruelly, and ruthlessly for not believing an absurdly unbelievable and badly written collection of lies by another name is a pointlessly cruel, ruthless and despotic ruler of hell who supposedly roasts and tortures you in hell for all eternity pointlessly, cruelly, and ruthlessly for not believing an absurdly unbelievable and badly written collection of lies just the same.
Not quite Shakespeare, I know. But gets the point across quite bluntly, don't you agree? |

So if I Understand DOC's current argument:
It is amazing that so many biblical prophecies were fulfilled, even though none have been actually fulfilled but may yet be fulfilled and it isn't really possible to know exactly what was prophesized as the translations are not easily achieved and we can't know if pronouns are being used properly and all of this doesn't matter because making predictions is only part of the prophet's job, so we shouldn't put too much stock on the fact that they aren't fulfilled. Therefore god. |
