Some of it, maybe, but it seems to be more than that.

Today's figures from Finland are a staggering 570. Definitely in a 'fourth wave' most infected seem to now be the 20-29 age group and younger.

Also in the news is the Health Authority in Finland THL, has had its knuckles rapped by the Ombudsman for making people in the 60 - 65 group, earlier this spring have the Astra Zeneca jab whether they liked it or not (as opposed to an alternative) despite being postponed for older groups due to the blood-clotting issues. People must have been complaining. AIUI AZ is now not being used at all although they did offer it to people voluntarily and discussed donating them to poorer economies.

That seems to be the case almost everywhere. Most people in their 20s only started getting vaccinated fairly recently and haven't yet had the second jab.

I think that the Norwegian and Danish decision to remove AZ from the vaccine program has been more successful. In Sweden, many 60+ people haven't yet had the second jab because they had the choice between AZ or no vaccination. And young people aren't lining up to get vaccinated:

Quote:
* Despite a recent report by the Swedish Public Health Agency suggesting young people are positive towards getting vaccinated, many aren't making time to get the vaccine, some regions are reporting.
* Inger Nordin Olsson, vaccinations coordinator at Region Örebro believes lack of information and a lack of urgency among the young are the main factors for this, rather than scepticism towards the vaccines.
* Emma Appelqvist at the Public Health Agency of Sweden says the summer holidays may also be a reason for young people are delaying taking the vaccine.
Plenty of spare vaccination times in some regions (RadioSweden, July 22, 2021)

Iceland has responded faster than the other Nordic countries throughout the pandemic.

Quote:
A 200-person gathering limit, one-metre distancing, and restricted opening hours for bars and nightclubs will be reimposed in Iceland just four weeks after all domestic restrictions due to COVID-19 were lifted. The restrictions are based on recommendations from Chief Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason and were decided on at a lengthy cabinet meeting today. At a briefing in Reykjavík yesterday, Þórólfur stated that COVID case numbers were rising at an exponential rate despite the country’s high vaccination rates.

I don't think that any of the other Nordic countries have considered similar measures:

Quote:
* A new Swedish study proposes to offer a SEK 200 gift-card to people who vaccinate for covid-19, with the aim to test how positive people are about the vaccine
* The method to encourage people to vaccinate with compensation has already been used in several other countries
* Professor in National Economy at Lund University Erik Wengström, says the plan might cause people to feel forced to vaccinate
Study to try offering rewards for getting vaccinated (SVT.se, July 23, 2021)

The Danish R0 is back at 1.0. Down from 1.1 last week. Still too high, but at least no longer rising.

The Danish number of new cases doubled from Tuesday to Wednesday, as did the percentage of positives. I haven't seen any explanation for this increase. The highest number of new infections since January.

Dr. Kamilla Sigríður Jósefsdóttir, the acting Chief Epidemiologist of Iceland, says that the current trend in infections is worrying and that contact tracing is proving increasingly difficult. She tells Mbl.is that unlike previous waves a large share of those now found to have contracted the virus have not been self-isolating when they get tested, meaning they are more likely to have spread the virus to other people.

Preliminary figures indicate that on Thursday 112 people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 of whom 32 had been self-isolating while 80 had not.

I stopped collecting the number of new cases in Sweden every Tuesday when the registration and reporting system of Sweden's Public Health Agency was locked down due to the fear of hackers. It reopened a while back, but now a fourth wave may be about to take off. The numbers are still low, though:

The number of new registered cases on Tuesdays in Sweden (no numbers Saturday, Sunday, Monday) according to SVT.se:
Tuesday, July. 13: 669
Tuesday, July. 20: 992
Tuesday, July. 27: 1,335
Tuesday, Aug. 3: 1,860

In spite of vaccinations (vaccinated 63,30%; fully vacc. 41,32%), the Swedish numbers are beginning to rise two months earlier than at the beginning of the second wave in 2020, probably due to a combination of the Delta variant and relaxed restrictions/recommendations:

With school vacations approaching an end, expect to see those numbers climb sharply. My brother-in-law works as a elementary school teacher and returned to work on monday to start planning for the coming school term. Today he was pinged as a close contact.

No doubt about it. About 40 percent of 12-15-year-olds in Denmark have been vaccinated at this point, and more are likely to follow their example now when they return from holidays, but that won't help elementary-school teachers and children.

I hope the health authorities will make face masks mandatory and recommend ventilation and other measures.

In Sweden, it is assumed that about 30 percent of school children have already had the infection. I suppose the rest can expect to come down with the Delta variant in a month or two ...

"The measures will be the same as before, under the Infectious Diseases Act. No new types of restrictions have been provided for in the law recently," Mölsä said.

Previously, restrictions in regions considered to be in the community transmission phase of the pandemic included indoor events being limited to a maximum of 10 people and outdoor events having no more than 50 participants. Public and private spaces were also forced to close and hobbies were suspended.

However, it is still expected that students will return to classrooms in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa when schools reopen their doors next door [next week??! dann]after the summer holidays.
Helsinki region preparing for restrictions as Finland reports highest ever daily cases (YLE.fi, Aug. 4, 2021)

I don't know if Finland took any precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus in schools before the arrival of the Delta variant: face masks, ventilation etc., but I assume they did and that similar measures will be taken now.

One or two festivals were cancelled but are mostly still going ahead (the promoters don't like to refund tickets; if you can't attend because of having to isolate of because you have covid, it's tough luck, whereas if they cancel, they are obliged to refund you). It's quite unfair as many buy tickets well in advance and then get stuck with them if they don't want to attend because of the latest situation.

Schools go back in early August, here. Summer comes early and is nice and long but then it's back to normal, as now, the weather is again pleasantly overcast and cool 19° - 20°, reminds me of England .

Good vaccination rates. Most infections are the younger generation.

In Denmark, people in their 20s have the highest rate of infections, almost double that of 10-19-year-olds who are #2.

The rules and regulations for schools after the summer holidays are on the way, but ...

Finland: PM Marin: Vaccination of 12-15-year-olds set to begin (YLE.fi, Aug. 5, 2021)

In Denmark, 37 percent of 12 to 15-year-olds have had the first shot.
A similar percentage of children in Sweden have antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. Sweden still relies almost exclusively on herd immunity by infection in that age group:
Quote:
... a little more than one third of all children and young people have antibodies ...

* In addition to family-friendly movies, the Järva film festival in northwestern Stockholm, which opened on Sunday, is also offering drop-in Covid-19 vaccinations and free antibody tests, in cooperation with Stockholm Region and Legehuset.
* Movies are screened outdoors from 4pm until 8 pm through Saturday.
* Ahmed Abdirahman, president of The Global Village, the NGO that has organized the event, says he hopes convenience and familiarity will encourage unvaccinated visitors to get their shot. Järva film festival offers not just movies but also vaccines (RadioSweden, Aug. 6, 2021)

Denmark has started encouraging people getting tested for Covid-19 to get the vaccinations, giving them the address of the nearest drop-in vaccination center. This only works only for those who just didn't get around to getting it done yet and not for anti-vaxxers, but there appear to be very few of those.

Bear in mind it was the weekend, the 'glitch' in the Finnish figures probably means an underestimate. Today it is being reported a staggering 1,322, the tally being 4,000 up in the current fortnight as compared to the previous one.

Much like Sweden, Finland doesn't to do an awful lot of testing (Worldometers):
Tests per million pop.:
Finland 1,087,494
Sweden 1,125,830

For this reason, looking at the Serious, Critical number (total!) may be more informative:
Finland 16
Sweden 29

Denmark 13
Norway 3

On Monday, for about half a day Iceland seemed to have adopted the herd-immunity-by-infection strategy. See the second Iceland link.
