I'm just waiting for Radio 3 to change its normal programming, then it's into a week of listening to YouTube for me.

If she was actually dead they'd have told us by now. I suspect she's still hanging on, and this could continue for quite some time.

They've got to wait for new Brian stamps, it would be questionable taste to post the head using those.

I forgot we’ve got all that expense to look forward to. I’m just waiting for Charles to let us know what his name will be be when he is coronated, I’m hoping he’ll go for Queen Charlene and his pronouns will be “we” just to mess with everyone.

BBC One has dropped usual programmes and gone to live rolling news of the Queen’s doctor saying there is concern about her health. They have to think she has died or is about to.

Actually I was about to post that I recall reading somewhere that he might not choose Charles, because he thinks that regnal name is bad luck. (I can't imagine why ) There's been some speculation that he might choose George, for obvious reasons, but if he doesn't go with Charles, my money is actually on Philip. (I'd say Arthur is an extreme longshot.)

I was going to ask if the press can't just check to see if the Royal Standard is still flying over Balmoral, but then I realized that that won't work, because Charles is already there.

It is curious is it not that they use the term, 'The Queen is under medical supervision.'

She has been all her life, especially now.

It has to be a euphemism, because if she was dead, they could hardly say, 'The Queen has been taken ill'.

Radio 3 still hasn't missed a beat. I presume something was included in the one o'clock news (I was out of the room at the time, it only lasts for about two minutes) which was the most recent news bulletin, but nothing since.

No more news until six, and the way they're going they won't change a thing before then unless she has actually officially died.

Won't it be too bad if the timing of her death means that the news first appears in the evening papers?

No. Protocol means next-of-kin have to be informed first. Plus, they would want a load of razzamatazz leading up to the announcement.

Shall we open a book as to what time she actually died or will imminently die?

My sixpence says she is already deceased hence the careful phraseology.

Well, I don't care enough to make any bets on it.

Looks like they're not hastening her on her way though.

LOL!

While I consider the institution of monarchy to be an abomination, and the British monarchy more so on account of the additional baggage of colonialism, but I think the Queen's a sweet old lady, and I do hope she'll recover and carry on, like forever as she'd seemed ready to do, or at least as long as her mother, say, or her husband. I'd actually be saddened (in an impersonal sort of way, but still) should she pass, and I can't really bring myself to joke about her passing. But the picture of poor waiting-waiting-still-waiting-endlessly-waiting Charles, bending down to fluff her pillows, that did have me, quite literally, laughing out loud!

So, why on earth do these guys change their name at all?

I mean, if you're going to change your name to "King Longshanks", or "King Biggus Dickus" or something dramatic like that, then I get that. But if you're simply going from Charles to George (or Philip, or Arthur, or whatever), then why even bother?

eta: Just googled it, apparently both Elizabeth and Victoria kept their own names (second in the usual string of names these dudes and dudettes are given in the case of Victoria, but still). So this changing names thing is a guys-only affair, then?

For the same reason Popes change their name when they assume office - to indicate a natural progression from previous incumbents ?

Maybe Brian will go for something a little more old skool like Alfred, Æthelstan or even Cynegils.

He doesn't need to change it, he's got a wide range to choose from. Charles Philip Arthur George, isn't he?

Or, in certain circles, Brian...

Oh, is that his full name, then, and what Spitfire had been referring to? Scratch my comment, then! Sure, if you've got a dozen names, no reason why you shouldn't get to pick the one among them that you like best!

Point of order: The first day of the 20th centuryWP was actually January 1, 1901. So EBL herself was born in the 19th century and died in the 21st century.

I read somewhere that when Victoria was born she wasn't expected to become queen and she was given a name that was generally regarded at the time as being more or less the equivalent of Tracy. People simply couldn't imagine a Queen Victoria, because to them it sounded like Queen Tracy.

Good on her for not changing it.

Nope. It's the day the first number of the odometer clicks over. Unless you think we're actually counting from a specific event the date of which is known exactly?

Yes, that's it.

Right now on Twitter every 3rd or 4th post is some fake BBC screenshot some bot or something is spamming out saying the Queen has died and every 2nd other post is someone mad that Meghan is going to visit the Queen.

I gotta say my friends from the land of crumpets and extra vowels you guys do NOT have a healthy relationship with your monarchy.

Just the Queen hashtag at this moment. I follow practically nobody on Twitter.

Well, as far as Queen's of England go, she probably top 3, and easily top 5
