The case for Amy Klobuchar?
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/27/o...char-2020.html
rational So far she is my favorite candidate. Yes, I know, no chance. But I don't believe she will be going anywhere for a long time, I see her as a 'keeper'. It is possible she needs another 4 yrs to really establish herself, but I think she is doing a great deal of work, and retaining her good, solid demeanor. And, I believe she could win over - that fat orange jerk. |

Copying my response from one of the other threads:
I won't be voting for her, mostly because I'm not American. But, she does seem like a pretty decent politician. She's quite active in congress (helping to sponsor/pass more legislation than any other senator), and did a good job of going after Drunky McRapeface during his confirmation hearings. The one negative about her seems to be her lack of support among minorities (which could either be due to her past career as a prosecutor, or due to her lack of name recognition). Overall I'd say she would make a good president. |

I asked my liberal cousin from Minnesota about her. Not a fan, mostly because of her term as a prosecutor. I didn't ask my cousin who she does support, but I'd guess Bernie.

You mean Amy Klopotek? I fear her name recognition is not good enough.

She was on my short list but showed some real inexperience at times.
We need someone with better experience: Warren is looking good. |

She's running on fumes at this point and will likely get a second consecutive sixth place on Saturday. About the only good news is that Minnesota will vote on Super Tuesday, and she's likely to win there, but that won't be enough.

I think she would be a fine choice. Doesn't look like that's what will happen though.

Inexperienced? She has been served more than 2 terms in the senate. She's served on committees for the judiciary, agriculture, the environment, and commerce.
Before that, she served as both a corporate lawyer and as a government attorney. Sounds to me like she has more than enough experience. The only thing I can see that she might be missing is foreign policy experience. |

Isn't she the one who's terrible to her own staff?

The NY Times (which back then was supporting the other former prosecutor in the race, Kamala Harris), ran a delicious hit piece about what a beeyatch she was as a boss. The anecdote I remember best is that she had a salad to eat but no fork (because the aide who got the salad screwed up and didn't get it). So she ate it with a comb, and then had him clean it off for her afterwards.

Maybe.
According to Wikipedia: In February 2019, BuzzFeed News reported that interviews with former staffers and reviews of emails indicated that Klobuchar frequently abused and humiliated her employees...The article reported that other employees found her to be "fair and effective" and a good boss. Politico reported that Klobuchar had the highest annual staff turnover rate of any senator—36%—between 2011 and 2016.A Huffington Post article alleged she had a reputation for mistreating her staff, with some staff alleging she was prone to bursts of cruelty. In response to the negative reports, 61 former staffers wrote an open letter praising Klobuchar... So maybe she's a horrible boss. Maybe she's OK and there are just a few people with an axe to grind. Or maybe she she's mediocre, and whether she is good or bad depends on the person she is dealing with. Hard to really say for sure. |

Being unliked by your staff is a Red Flag for someone in a top managerial position.
But her record as a Prosecutor is pretty horrifying, too, especially going after Somali using Khat to bolster her 'tough on drugs' image by going after an easy target. Of course, I'll support whoever gets nominated. But Im not upset that it won't be her. |

That single fact, if true, tells you all you need to know. Working for a U.S. Senator is one of the most prestigious staff jobs in Washington. People fight hard to get there and to stay there. If she has a higher turnover than all 99 other senators -- think of everybody that includes! -- her office must be hell.

Amy Klobuchar will end 2020 presidential campaign and endorse Joe Biden (CNN, March 2, 2020)

I mentioned this in another thread, but I think if Biden gets the nomination that will happen. In fact, I think she may have been offered it as incentive to get out now rather than after Super Tuesday. Note that she has not only endorsed Biden but is now appearing at his campaign rallies.

I can see that happening, but would prefer Biden (or Bernie) not choose ANY sitting Senator. We need them where they are.

Well, she would likely be replaced by another Democrat. The governor of Minnesota is a Democrat, and apparently if her seat were to be vacated, the governor would name an interim replacement.
