Due diligence would be to assume it was possible. So usb devices will be checked, example is what looks like a normal usb lead with a built in keylogger, power sockets checked as there’s a fake cover plate you get that has a built in mike. There was enough time I am told for them to flash the firmware of any “smart” device. The list goes on. Some IT groups discussing this.

All of you are to blame. This insurrection never would've happened if Trump had won.

doubt much will come of it.
The FBI comically underestimated the threat on Wednesday, they won't do it again.

Apparently it’s not as bad as that. Read this series of tweets by a specialist. https://twitter.com/ericgeller/statu...930230785?s=12

“ So far, hearing that cyber risks of the Capitol attack were low.

* Congress isn't one big network
* Vulnerable machines held unclassified files

We should plan and prepare expecting an armed attack on the inauguration. We just saw what thinking that there's something a Trump supporter won't do get you. We can't assume their kind have a bottom. There is simply no depth a Trump supporter won't sink to. Law enforcement needs to a) purge their ranks of enemy sympathizers and b) assume that there's no act of sedition or treason a Trump supporter won't engage in.

Did they, though? Has anything more come out about the claims that the Capitol police declined offers of support from other agencies, including the FBI?

It's the sort of stuff that's bound to spawn a conspiracy theory one way or another and absolutely everyone will be swift to cover their own ass, but the enquiry that will inevitably follow should be interesting to say the least.

Yesterday’s “The Daily” podcast titled “How They Stormed Congress” had reflections on that issue.

In brief, the D.C. Mayor was apprehensive about calling on Federal support after seeing what had happened with the BLM protests in the summer. You might remember the camo-dressed officers with no identification used what often appeared to be excessive force on often peaceful demonstrators. She had the foresight to have the D.C. National Guard mobilized, but when addition Guard troops were requested from Maryland, chaos and delay ensued.

Worth a listen.

I think you slightly missed the point.

There has been a couple of reports about how there wasn’t additional policing because they - the likes of the FBI - had no intelligence about any threats. Yet within minutes of this kicking off people were unearthing tweets, parler discussions, facebook posts, forums and so on all discussing violent actions and plans.

It seems once again that there is a blind spot in the USA policing community (FBI, police departments etc.) when it comes to the potential violence from right wing groups.

This was a massive Law enforcement failure - you don't prep Security for the most likely case, but the worst case.
Clearly, there was a blind spot when it came to imagining what the MAGAs would be willing to do.

If there is a counter-protest to the re-insurgence, it may get totally out of hand. I for one think the Inauguration will take place somewhere else, maybe planned ahead but more likely not announced beforehand.

Won't the symbolism of reacting out fear by changing how an inauguration is done be seen as unacceptable optics?

Biden's inauguration was done in private! It's obvious he knows he isn't the real president or he would have it in public!

I don't think basing one's strategy on second-guessing what idiots might think is the way to go. Moving the inauguration and having the insurrectionists met instead by a sizeable tactical force seems like a good chess move to me.

This woman deserved everything she got. Stupid bitch.

ETA: Before people start complaining that I consider this woman worse than Hitler or something I say she deserved what she got because she was assaulting a barrier, while rioting and being belligerent, while there were armed cops who were sworn to protect the people she was trying to get at beyond the barrier and she knew that. She didn't "deserve to die" because she was evil, she did because she attacked a position defended by men with guns. Just like someone who runs at armed police brandishing a knife. Suicide by cop, I believe they call it.

Not sure which point I may have missed.

Everyone's been talking openly for weeks about how this event was sure to turn nasty and, as you say, that seems to include those who wanted it to happen and hoped to make it happen. So the "no intelligence" suggestion is not credible. To me it seems the significant point is identifying those blind spot(s); who made the call(s) that resulted in this protest being policed so lightly that the officers present couldn't contain it?

And let’s not forget that most of the terrorists who staged the coup against the Capitol are still freely walking the streets because they were allowed to leave.

These people have only been emboldened by their success and lack of consequences.

“Right wing groups” and “MAGAs”, yes. But let’s not mince words. This was a large group of mostly white men and that’s a major factor in why they were treated with kid gloves.

Geez, I’m normally in the camp of slagging off US police for being trigger happy but in this case they were absolutely justified - small handful of defenders sworn to protect their charges, rampaging mob kicking in the doors and smashing the windows to get in (did you see the full video - this was not a lone woman climbing through a window to have a look around, this was the first person of a mob that was attempting to smash the doors down and earlier there’d been chanting about killing Mike Pence...not necessarily the same people but part of the same initial crowd) and the first person starts breaking through. One shot and it all stops. Clear, decisive action where physically engaging would have had the whole mob on him seconds later. He actually showed excellent control - no firing into the crowd, no shots as they were trying to break in, waited until one actually breached the last line of defence, then a single shot. None of that panicked, empty the chamber malarkey so usually associated with cops shooting. Total, controlled protection of his charges, nothing excessive, one shot, take out the breacher. Stop firing.

He should be commended.

Breaking fast food restaurant windows and throwing rocks at police is not in the same league as what happened at the capitol on Wednesday.

Damn straight. Defending the seat of government from insurrection seems to me a reasonable situation for deadly force.

I think Cruz’s beard rises and falls in sync with Trump Jr’s beard.

I watched a Seth "Closer Look" video this morning where he said Cruz (with the beard) looked "like an alcoholic werewolf who got stuck halfway between transformations." (Around 12:50 in the video below)

Particularly when the insurrectionists are on a mission to replace democratic institutions with a tyrannical cross between Mussolini and Alex Jones.

The beard is just lipstick on the pig. He's still got that punchable vibe. Cruz should go for a more profound change, like keeping his mouth shut.

I see the guy with the lectern was arrested.

"The man smiling and waving at the camera has been identified as 36-year-old Adam Johnson of Parrish in Manatee County. 8 On Your Side has learned Johnson is married to a local physician and is a father of five.

The arrest report says Johnson was booked in the Pinellas County Jail around 9 p.m. Friday. He remains there on a US Marshal warrant."

Wifey going to be pissed.
