I've been wondering about the contingent that seemed more prepared to get nasty, but didn't. Were they waiting for a signal that didn't come, or was aborted? Were they just over-preppers that wanted to be ready for anything? Or did they have second thoughts when the reality hit them?

I opined on this earlier in the thread.

I think they might have been expecting the police to join them or Trump to declare martial law and real troops to support their cause. When it became apparent the police would resist and they were being reinforced, the enemy didn't go full civil war.

From what I understood of Popehat's appearance on All the President's Lawyers, that sounds like he could be looking at felony murder whether the cop he beat was the one who died or not.

Yeah. Don't think that little "Let's Kill All The Traitots In the Capitol" remark is not going to looked at very, very, negatively by the Judge come sentencing for assualt time.

Erm, a couple of questions, if that's OK?

Pardon my ignorance, but don't women only start with the hot flushes when they reach the menopause? So they would be OK as president up to then? At which point you invoke article 25 or whatever?

What's the basis of the Obama wedding ring quote?

Obama allegedly takes off his wedding ring during Ramadan, a clear indication that he is a Muslim because there is a prohibition on wearing jewellery during Ramadan.

There are only two flaws in that logic:

- Obama doesn't take of his wedding ring during Ramadan
- There is no such prohibition

Those two small details aside, the reasoning is flawless

Yes and no. Yes, hot flushes are a symptom of the menopause in some women. No, they don't cause us to start wars. They're just slightly annoying.

Unless blanket pardons get issued.

Not saying that will necessarily happen, but we should all be prepared for the possibility.

And that's probably just what they would say, with no apparent awareness that the original claim-

I don't know how many of them were followers of Q-Anon, but Q had assured them that once they breached the Capitol, secret military units would join them.

That's probably why they were just wondering about confused once they got in.

When you wrote that, it made me think of all the variety of active militia movements we've had from well before 2000. However, this essay may be as relevant (or more):

I suggest that we hand over all military control to women age 40+ and observe what happens.

You know the problem with having a woman president?
One week a month they'll act like men do four weeks a month.

Don't remember where I heard that. I think maybe a woman comedian.

Women would neither cause wars for no reason nor usher us into a new age of peace.

Almost as if women are people.

Almost as if women are people.

Back in the 1950s, one of the science fiction comics from EC Comics printed a story in which a woman ran for President as an independent. It was viewed as a joke until the women in the country decided to vote for her instead of who their husbands told them to vote for (Gasp!), and she won. Congress tried to have the Supreme Court declare the election invalid, in an oddly prescient moment, but all but one of the Justices were married, and their wives wouldn't let them do it. They later tried to amend the Constitution to say that the President had to be a man in the future, but by then she had inspired other women to run for office and they couldn't get the majority they needed. This eventually led to an upheaval in society, but the story lost steam at that point, and the rest of it was just 1950s cliches with the sexes reversed. Women upset that their father-in-laws were coming to live with them. Men upset that their wives wouldn't buy them new appliances. Women going to war while men worked in the factories. A female executive calling her husband to say she's working late, while a giggling male secretary sits on her lap. Male drivers flirting with female police officers to get out of tickets. The final panel revealed that this somehow eventually led to men having babies instead of women.

The "whatever" probably covers every other eventuality. Like period pains, arguments with their girlfriends, breaking a nail, you never know what might set them off and then you have World War III on your hands.

The Norwegian evening post holds no punches.

The caption reads 'a man without honour'.

Edit: here's the full size image.

Issuing a pardon because he "accepted the presidentís invitation with honorable intentions" pretty much would be an admission that Trump did, in fact, incite them to commit these acts, and we know Trump isn't big on admitting things.

Not saying that will necessarily happen, but we should all be prepared for the possibility.
Won't happen for one reason:
By doing that Trump would make his conviction in the Impeachment Trial a 100% certainity.

Five days to go.

The MyPillow guy visits Trump at the White House today with notes that mention "trigger emergency powers" and "martial law if necessary."

Could be an interesting witness at the Senate trial.

The most amusing aspects -- he needed those notes as reminders, and he managed to make them visible.

I feel compelled to add, MyPillows are Motel 6 quality.

And I wonder, does oleander dims the wits?

Where's Chuck Woolery when you need him?

And his pillows are overpriced crap anyway. You can get a better one at Target for less money and no shipping charge.
But I have the sick feeling that Trump will try to play one more card to keep in power.

Trump is staying true to form, no surprise:

Quote:
The President has been discussing his election conspiracy theories with his former chief strategist Steve Bannon -- who's facing federal fraud charges -- in recent weeks, a senior Trump adviser confirmed, as he pushes away advisers who tell him what he doesn't want to hear.

So is Alex Jones on the outs now?

ETA: Have y'all watched this Frontline? Updated since last week. (Probably not available outside US...)

You may be giving Republican Senators more credit than they deserve.

I preferred to call hot flashes "my own personal summers" and testosterone "the stupid hormone" because it causes men to do some really stupid things. For example, it makes some men incapable of turning down incredibly dangerous dares if the words "What are you? A wuss?" are used. It also causes many men to engage in bar fights especially when used in combination with alcohol.
