I just saw some Trump cultists being interviewed. Sadly, and as expected, there are claims of trumped up charges, fake photos, witch hunt by radical liberals, and proclamations that they are dedicated to re-electing the "best President we've ever had". Someone in the background yelled, "Lock him up!" and the Maga cultist said, "He ain't done nothing wrong. You're an idiot."
Oh, sweet Jesus, the irony. |

The logistics of putting a former president in jail would seem to be prohibitive. I would expect home detention. Which leads to the issue of how to limit his contact with the outside world. While it would be possible to block Internet connections, would there be a feasible way of prohibiting him from using a cell phone?

Kari Lake: If you want to get to President Trump then you are going to have to go through me!
DoJ: Fine. You are under arrest for harbouring and aiding and abetting a federal suspect for the crimes of illegal possession of state secrets, hiding same from authorities, and espionage against the United States. All carry multi-decade sentences. Hands behind your back, please. |

"If you wanna get to President Trump, you're gonna have to go through me, and you're gonna have to go through 75 million Americans just like me,” she claimed. “And I'm gonna tell you, most of us are card-carrying members of the NRA. - Kari Lake
Yes Kari, and I don't think I need to remind you that there are a ****-load of Democrats who also have guns, and they are not members of the NRA! |

Even the NRA's own bloated numbers that they simply claim and have never once actually shown the paperwork on and I am 100% convinced are 100% pulled out of their ass only put their membership at 4.3 million people and a good 80% of them are going to have aim over the handlebars of their Rascal Scooters and remember which one is their holster and which one is their portable oxygen machines so they aren't exactly striking fear into my hear.
And its membership has been in a nosedive for years now. If any of the streaming service in America that you can think off of your head woke up tomorrow with the NRA's membership numbers, their board of directors would all jump out a window before the shareholders found out. 81 million Americans own guns. The NRA isn't just fringe it's statistically not there. |

Making the country go through all of this AND then having basically create from the ground up our version of the Tower of London in the 16 and 1700s because "How do we imprison an ex-President who WILL attempt to get back into to power until the day he dies" is just one of those things we never thought to have a plan for and then him dropping dead on like the 2nd day he was in it so all the effort was for nothing sounds 100% like something Trump would do.

Why? He is just a guy who held a job for 4 years. Now he is a private citizen and should be treated like everyone else. Former presidents are mere politicians and are really nothing special. I really don't get this essential deification of presidents in the USA. Seems like you rejected royalty 200 years ago and now have a need to invent your own to genuflect to.

I keep telling you guys: Pick any of the small, uninhabited Aleutian islands and drop him there. One-way airfare, one-way boat ride, and drop him off. Give him food and shelter, and a box of matches. Otherwise nothing. Cheap as chips. He can rant to the seagulls and seals about how he is being prosecuted, endlessly.

... .. Ya know maybe one of the reasons we're ****** as a country is "Attempted coup that the perpetrator has (and will) face zero consequences for attempting" can't stick in our collective heads for more than 30 seconds. The fact that you just "tee hee forgot" that we are in the middle of Republican launching a coordinated attacked on the concept of democracy in this country is scary. |

There are some factors at play here if/when they incarcerate Trump.
As a public figure he would have to be segregated from the general population to prevent someone from hurting him as a way to get publicity (or revenge for some of the destructive policies he enacted). I personally wouldn't care if he were beaten to death in the prison showers but the US does have some responsibility for keeping prisoners safe. (He is similar to serial killers or child molesters in this regard) Because if his MAGAchud followers, they may need higher security where he is kept to prevent any of them from trying to help him. Also because of his cult, they may need to take additional measures to prevent him from doing anything to incite more problems, like passing information to outsiders. He is a moron, but there is a chance he may have remembered some classified information from his days as president, so steps might be needed to prevent him from disseminating that information. Nothing is insurmountable. But it may require some modifications to various prison buildings and/or changes to protocols to house him. (Still worth it in my opinion even if it costs the justice system a little more) Sent from my moto e using Tapatalk |

I rather like the idea of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library being in the wing of a prison.

I think if it looks like he will be convicted he may flee to Russia. Where they have no extradition with the USA. Is Trump's passport going to be seized?

I still say the Donald J. Trump Presidental Library should be a gorgeous, state of the art facility fully stocked with every book any Republican has every tried to ban and a world class collection of every book on fascism, racism, bigotry, and how to fight it we can. It should hold lectures from top minds on how to fight against all the evils of the world. It should be a beacon of free thought and tolerance.
And play it 100% straight. Never acknowledge the joke. |

So, in the indictment, he's showing off some documents to someone who has no business seeing them, could it be Kid Rock?

Again we'd be stupid to not assume literally everything that happened that Trump had access to isn't in Putin's hands.
Yeah I get it Kid Rock is funnier and easier to meme, but it's not what I'm worried about. |

If we could figure out how to keep 7 high-ranking NAZIs in a prison, I’m pretty sure we can figure out how to keep one ex-president in a prison.
For instance, Just grab one of those decommissioned military bases and add some buildings. ….. ETA if Trump were in some kind of prison, the only logistical problem would be keeping track of hundreds of thousands of donations to his commissary account. (People are stupid). |

If he gets convicted and wins the presidency, it will probably be the first time in his life he utters the words: "Parden Me"

The cost to democracy and the rule of law in the US of NOT putting a convicted felon in jail, just because his status would make it complicated would be prohibitive.
It would firmly establish the idea that a President, former or otherwise, can crime as much as they want. I think we could easily fundraise the money to keep him locked up. |
