Full-on farce in operation now as Luxon hails agreement only for Seymour to say he's getting over-excited.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/pol...cant-milestone

If nothing else, this government is going to great for the LULZ - a noob in coalition with two people smarter and more politically able than him.

English is pretty much all loan words at this stage. No wonder when it was a Romance vocabulary grafted onto a Frisian grammatical structure with elemenst borrowed from old Saxon and old Norse.

I am opposed to socially transitioning and sterilizing children at school. This is because it causes great harm to the community at large, and is cult behaviour.
I have no hatred for trans people.
I live in New Zealand and have a full understanding of what the last Parliament achieved against the rights of women and children, and am an active member of the Women's Rights Party.

That famously anti-trans lobby group, led by anti-trans activist Jill Ovens, that exists for no reason other than to advocate for the extermination of trans women.

If you really cared about womens' rights, you would immediately cancel your membership with this hateful organisation and full-throatedly condemn them for bigotry. But you don't, so you won't. You only care that trans women should not exist.

Apparently, the coalition is almost finalised!

Seymour has been pitching himself for Deputy PM very hard, so I imagine that will succeed.

What a pair - a gormless egghead as leader and a smarmy wanker with short-man syndrome as deputy.

Fun fun fun!

Let's cut this bloody trans rubbish - there's a thread for that and this isn't it.

FFS, we're in the final stages of negotiation of a government, let's stick to politics.

But on the bright side we got rid of Jacinderella, so it's all good - right?

Luxon hails 'historic' three-way coalition
Quote:
Luxon said the deputy prime minister and other details would be revealed tomorrow once the deal has been ratified. He said there was "massive alignment" from the three parties around their goals.

"You'll be able to see exactly what we've delivered, and I think you'll see it's incredibly comprehensive but importantly also it gives us a really defined work programme for the next three years, so there's a lot of specificity there, that's very deliberate so that we all are aligned in what we're shooting for and what we're trying to achieve...

Also speaking this afternoon, Seymour said he was "feeling very good about the future of the government".
Not feeling that great about it myself.

But hey, I'm a pensioner now and grabbing as much as I can before I die. National had better look after us, or come 2026 they're out!

Do keep up, old chap - she got rid of herself.

Note that her inability to continue as PM hasn't affected her ability to attend Red Carpet functions in America and take on a sinecure role at the UN.

Good for you - selfish interest is always a keynote of National/ACT/NZF voters.

With Winston in the coalition, pensioners will be well rewarded for their votes.

Poor people, kids in poverty, and all those in decile 1 & 2 who never vote blue, not so much.

Will Winston throw LGBTQ under the bus as that moron Carmel Sepuloni suggested despite his only suggestion was to cease funding to sports where men are cheating and stop big swinging dicks hanging out with little girls in changing rooms. Presumably Carmel is big enough to see no clear and present danger, slaps self on wrist not allowed to do trans here ....

Right - says the man who was constantly calling her names and never had a good thing to say about her. Amplify that by a few million and it's plain who got rid of her.

I didn't vote for any of them - and never will. But as a pensioner I can pretend that I would.

The best thing though is that I can now put my hand out for everything I am entitled to without guilt. National say they will usher in an era of economic prosperity, so the government should have plenty of money to pay us old folks - even after they have given themselves complementary tax cuts and relaxed regulations to line their own pockets.

But I bet they will get greedy and want it all for themselves. Expect lots of bleating about how pensioners are bleeding the governnent dry so the retirement age must be raised to 70 - which by pure coincidence is the age you they have set for letting people die of Covid.

Which shows that you know nothing about politics. Winston campaigned on those 2 gender issues and I hope he won on policy in the negotiations. I will let you know Mark.
It is policy backed by a brand new poll, a strong majority of the people support his aims.

Utter baloney.

I have repeatedly stated that not only did I vote for her in both elections she won, I actively campaigned for her, including paid ads encouraging people to vote for her. I don't know what time and money you spent helping Jacinda get elected, but if it was anywhere near the investment I made, I'll tip my hat to you.

I became critical of her and her government when they not just failed to deliver on promises, but failed more completely than even John Key managed.

Your total lack of understanding of NZ politics is quite astonishing. There is zero chance this government will raise the retirement age.
_____________

Meanwhile in a bizarre twist, Deputy PM will be shared by Seymour and Peters, 18 months each.

Nice to see "porno king" Shane Jones back in cabinet too.

Agreed coalition policy:

Ensure publicly funded sporting bodies support fair competition that is not compromised by rules relating to gender.

Is this a world first?
Does publicly funded sport include schools?

And so it begins:-

Smokefree law changes a 'completely backwards step' - health experts
Quote:
The incoming finance minister has admitted that New Zealand's world-first smokefree laws have been scrapped to fund tax cuts.

National's coalition deal with New Zealand First - released yesterday - says it will repeal amendments to the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990 and regulations before March 2024...

Under the coalition, National could no longer fund its promised tax cuts through a tax on foreign buyers, and had to look elsewhere for revenue.

Nicola Willis told TV3's Newshub Nation that New Zealand First and Act were "insistent" the smoke-free legislation be reversed...

Public health experts said legislation could have saved the health system $1.3b over 20 years.

Health Coalition Aotearoa co-chair Professor Lisa Te Morenga said scrapping the legislation would cost thousands of lives, with the worst impact on Māori.
But why would NZ First want to reverse smoke-free legislation? Winston Peters is a smoker...

Our local dairy had a petition going to stop the law change. The day after the election I told him to rip it up because the new government would reverse the rules Labour put in place.

100% predictable.

OMG !!! They wouldn't, would they?

It's National - of course they would.

National on promise to introduce legislation on extending parliamentary term to four years: 'It will save money'
Quote:
Among a number of agreements made during the talks, National has agreed to push for four years between general elections.

The agreement with ACT states it will: "Pass the Constitution (Enabling a 4-Year Term) Amendment Bill through first reading in the first 15 months of the term."

Where the agreement with New Zealand First states it will: "Support to Select Committee a bill that would enact a binding referendum on a four-year term of Parliament."

Otago University law professor Andrew Geddis said with results from just one poll so far, it's still too early to get a solid indication of people's stance, but the results suggest there's been a large swing in opinion since the idea was roundly rejected in two previous referenda; in 1967 and 1990.

"New Zealanders may be thinking 'look we've got some big problems on our plate: we've got a housing crisis, we've got climate change, we've got increased inequality - big changes [may] need to be made.

"And if big changes need to be made, perhaps our politicians just need a little bit more time to do so
before they have to go and run another election campaign."

Prof Geddis said the main argument for reform was that the three-year term doesn't give governments enough time to enact their policies, because they have to spend so much time campaigning.

He said the argument against is that elections are the only way to hold governments properly to account.

"We don't have a written constitution, we don't have courts that can overturn legislation, we only have a single house of Parliament, so a majority there can allow you to do anything.
"
"big changes need to be made" - and they are being made. Rolling back climate change action, increasing inequality, scrapping health programs. They say they have a plan to solve the housing crisis, but I bet that will also turn out to just be making property developers rich while tenants stay poor - only for a minimum of 4 years instead of 3.

But it's a referendum so the public decides. What could possibly go wrong?

Quote:
"The other thing is, of course, there is no way that the law change could take place, I think, straight after a referendum. You'd have to have the referendum and then another term, and then have [the change] take effect.

"Simply because you don't want people to be voting on who [they] think is going to win at that election."

The survey showed younger respondents were less in favour, with 53 percent of 18 to 34 year olds in support, compared to 62 percent of 35 to 54 year olds, and 67 percent of those aged 55 years or older.

He said perhaps younger people place more value in having the vote
No way a law change could take place straight after a referendum? Don't bet on it. The only question is, how will National bribe voters to give them life terms 4 years?

A lawyer by profession, Collins has had a controversial and colourful political career that included a 499-day reign as National's leader which ended on 25 November 2021 after a vote of no confidence from her caucus...

Collins' belief in law and order led to her nickname Crusher Collins which sprang from a crackdown on boyracers when she was police minister in 2009.

In 2020, Collins complained she was "sick of being demonised" for her ethnicity after tensions flared at Parliament over race relations.

Then prime minister John Key gave Collins a "final warning" in 2014 after it came out that she had visited the Shanghai offices of Oravida, a company which was owned by one of her close friends and of which her husband was a director, while on a taxpayer-funded trip.

Collins later admitted to having dinner with the company's bosses. She had claimed the visit was "on the way to the airport" but the offices are 30 kilometres in the opposite direction...

in 2014, Collins was accused of leaking information to her friend and right-wing blogger Cameron Slater in Nicky Hager's book Dirty Politics, released in August that year about a month before the election. She resigned from Cabinet after allegations she tried to undermine the Serious Fraud Office director.
But hey, it's National. Corruption and dirty politics are in their genes!

I trust you're not surprised by any of it.

Crusher as Minister of Defence is a given - nobody's going to attack us when she's our first line of defence. And don't forget, her husband is very well connected in China, so we don't need to concern ourselves with them.

It's National - of course they would.

That's the only unfair criticism you've made - Labour under Jacinda oversaw house price rises double those of John Key, and it's Labour who created the new property and rent boom by allowing 100,000 migrants in with minimal oversight.

This election was driven by the English language.
Maori beseeched their people to use the language in 1840.
Shakespeare judged all of us in his plays.

Oh you're pushing that idea again? Explain how improved english will prevent crime. In detail, don't just say it will.

Meanwhile, away from Fantasyland that some people inhabit, here's a very good analysis of why Winston has come out on top: https://www.thepost.co.nz/a/politics...winston-length

I haven't yet seen any policy announcements following up on National's pledge to put students in bondage yet. I can't wait for that one.

In New Zealand schools "learners" are now experiencing whole periods learning the Maori words for scientific terms.
This is an open ended tax on available time. The elite Maori who invent the terms are extremely highly paid, this is an open ended tax on the citizens.
Heather du Plessis Allan described me as having my tummy tickled by Winston Peters when he said he was dialing this back.
I did like the proper and only useful way of getting to essence of helicopter, thank you.

Same in France, with the French language. You think they should stop that there too? Just because English is the lingua franca of the internet?

To be honest, you are sounding a bit racist about Maori wanting to use te reo in Aotearoa. Let's hope you are not really.

They already do? So what?

I don't have any problem with Māori creating words in their own language for things they didn't have words for previously. After all, what were the English words for "nuclear reactor", "helicopter", "bicycle", "motorcycle" and "aeroplane" before those things existed?

That's right.. there weren't any - WE made them up when they were invented!!

What I DO object to is this push to teach "Māori Science" as being equally as valid as actual science. That is wrong, and I find it both insulting and disingenuous of the proponents of this idea when they call actual science "white man's science". All that does is show the ignorance of those proponents. Science doesn't care who you are or what you think, much less your ethnicity or the colour of your skin.

So called "Māori Science" is not based on verifiable, testable evidence, falsifiability, experimentation and repeatability. Māori Science is based on myth and legend - nothing more.

I think terms like

Racist
Bully
Transphobe
Islamophobe

Are all wrong. They do not help us with the domino toppling that started with the big bang.
We are individually the last domino and seldom perfect.

You only think they're "wrong" because you don't like being called them even when they're accurate.

Why should schools in New Zealand not teach Maori?

Do you think Welsh schools should have carried on the tradition of the Welsh Not in order to root out Welsh?
