Venezuelan constitution is not easy to change. You need to set up the Constitutional assembly, which requires a confrimation by referendum. The referendum question is whether the constitution should be changed and whether the rules for electing the assembly are acceptable. After that is done you need to elect the assembly, which can then rewrite the constitution.

Venezuela skipped the part with the referendum and organized elections by decree in a way to ensure the ruling party would get the maximum representation with minimum votes. Their Supreme Court said it was okay, because the president acted with a popular mandate. They also cited Karl Schmidt as justification.

Now it looks like the turnout figures from the government were a little bit out:

Who would have thought it?

At least they didn't have millions of illegal immigrants voting.

From your link:

Quote:
According to internal electoral council data previously reviewed by Reuters, only 3.7 million people had voted by 5:30 p.m. in Venezuela's election on Sunday.
That's 1.5 hours before closing time according to my morning paper (linky; warning - it's all in Finnish). The goverment claims that 8.1 million votes were cast in total, which would mean a fairly impressive evening spike at polling stations - one that should be readily apparent to observers, who report no such thing.

Well, it's for the good of the people, and it's all CIA pre$$titute propaganda. And those bastards had it coming. And the US treats its brave dissenters way worse (instead of free off-peak-hours rides in government automobiles, they get professorships at MIT and stuff).

I've played Tropico like this. Military background, elected as a socialist, then put on the squeeze and eventually forgo elections. The trick Chavez and Maduro missed is to build up a strong economy to pay top salaries for all your numerous generals, soldiers and police. Even then, it takes time.

No doubts that Venezuelans will feel much better now that Trump has explained he doesn't rule out military option against Venezuela...

As I told an obtuse Venezuelan yesterday: Anyone who knows Trump's History of saying whatever random **** comes out of his mouth and then do the opposite and deny he even said it in the first place, knows not to take seriously anything that comes out of his mouth.

You should maybe tell this to the Venezuelan government. Trump's idiotic comment fueled their "US plot trying to shut down the government and remove democracy in Venezuela" theory.

Sure, let me just call Maduro on the cell phone and tell him

In the end, it's two complete morons who talk **** nonsense and don't give a crap about the people of the country they rule, making decisions that will affect these people.

Oh, what I would give for being able to put these two idiots in a cage and watch them kill each other to deat. In fact, throw Kim Jong Un in there too.
