You've got hunter paying Joe's bills. You've got the secret service covering up the whole gun thing.

None of this matters even if it's true. You've got half of Congress (hyperbolically speaking) with their kids working for Ukrainian oil companies. I'm not sure anything Joe is accused of here is so wildly outside normal business for Washington. So he's been taking backhanders funnelled through his family his whole career.....? Insider trading is legal for these guys. If getting a cut out of the legislation you pass isn't wrong, I'm not sure getting a cut out of foreign aid, or international deals would be much of a leap. This isn't a partisan thing... Republican's do this too.
Some of the communications have been independently verified. Some of the communications indicate that Hunter had sketchy dealings with his father. No one has claimed any of the communications fit into both categories. You can be sure the right-wing would be screaming bloody murder if they had.

Instead it's "Some of the e-mails have been verified! Some of the e-mails show sketchy things!", and hoping people make the connection on their own. Good enough to fool people on the internet, but any defense lawyer worth their weight in sand would be able to point out the flaw in a criminal proceeding.

Biden's business partner who was the recipient of some of the emails related to china verified some of them and I believe talked about interest free loans from the Chinese that didn't have to be paid back. Only the justice department would actually be able to verify this stuff, so nothing is going to happen. Like I say, not sure that anything Biden is accused of is particularly unusual. I doubt all the rest of the children of Congress creatures who were working for Ukrainian oil companies were hired because of their unique insight into the ukrainian oil market.

It's like in the Godfather... They just want to wet their beaks. What Biden did wrong was to involve a crack addict with a weakness for Russian hookers in the operation.

In other words, your reply to mine upthread was just a backhanded way of claiming Biden must have done something illegal.

Show me where Joe Biden involved his son in anything.

Hunter claims he was in the emails and text messages, plus you have the business partner claiming it. Again, none of this matters because the justice department would have to investigate it and that doesn't seem very likely. The only thing remarkable about what he is accused of is that he involved a crack addict in it. If we were going by the book, I imagine the whole dumping a firearm in a trash can near a school thing would be a problem, but we aren't. This is the class of people who knock over countries to protect the interests of fruit companies.

Show me. "you have the business partner claiming it." Claiming what?

Why would the DOJ investigate it if there are no allegations of J. Biden doing anything illegal?

There have been allegations going back decades. There were complaints during the Obama era in the State department of him creating the appearance of corruption for the way he handled Ukraine. Again, he wasn't not doing anything unique, it's just he is indiscrete about it. These people won't even agree to stop insider trading on the back of the legislation they are passing.

If the DoJ were going to investigate Biden for this stuff, what about all those congressional kids working for ukrainian oil companies? You'd collapse the system. None of this is a secret. It's not even one part vs another.

Allegations? Allegations are easy to make. Like "the election was rigged" or "stolen". But was there ever enough evidence to actually make a charge or even investigation?

"Complaints" or "allegations"? You mean the one that "a recently concluded investigation by Senate Republicans that found no wrongdoing by the Bidens, claims to the contrary have continued to circulate on social media,"? THAT one?

How is he 'indiscrete'?

If none of this is a secret, then please provide some evidence of all these "congressional kids working for ukrainian oil companies".

If there was anything legitimate to hang a hat on with this twaddle about the Bidens, the GQP would be flooding all media with shrill, unambiguous accusations and hard evidence, and demanding a Special Prosecutor or House Investivation. That they're going no farther than mealy mouthed innuendo and letting their propaganda organs carry the weight of the muck-raking shows they have squat, and daren't risk slander.

At least that's my impression from up here on this side of the border, and without having delved at all deeply into the matter. A hard drive that has such questionable provenance and custody chain sure has a bunch of desperados clamoring hard to make it relevant, where in a court of law it likely would fail to be accepted into evidence.

These same propaganda organs are the ones screaming about 'all the evidence' that exists proving the election was rigged.

Thanks, but my post had nothing to do with his misspelling or double negative. I actually misspelled it myself conflating it with the adjective 'indiscrete'. It was a serious question. I want to know how Joe Biden was indiscreet.

That person operates from the dumb assumption that there is something there with Joe Biden and works backwards. If there is nothing there, then we are left with a prosecutor's outgoing legacy would be fun charges for a guy lying about a drug problem.

What, is there something going on with Trump and/or Republicans that conservatives need to be distracted from right now?

The children of Biden, Pelosi, Kerry, and Romney all work for Ukrainian gas companies. Now it's been ratcheted up to 'half of Congress,' "hyperbolically speaking," that is.

The partisan use of misinformation from the right is really a horrendous practice. First it was just obscure right-wing extremists who did it, now it seems to have become a mainstream right wing tactic. Mainstream conservatives -- as opposed to mainstream right-wingers -- have lamented that the atmosphere has become so polarized that even people who should know better have begun embracing disinformation as a tactic.

I was reading the posts in this thread and replied without realizing (at first) this was the Hunter Biden thread. I moved this post to the Jan 6 Investigation thread.

Breaking news! CBS has confirmed that the laptop appears legitimate:

Quote:
Data from a laptop that the lawyer for a Delaware computer repair shop owner says was left by Hunter Biden in 2019 – and which the shop owner later provided to the FBI under subpoena – shows no evidence of tampering or fabrication, according to an independent review commissioned by CBS News.
Of course, they lead with 'no evidence of tampering or fabrication', but as you read deeper it becomes pretty clear they know it's the real deal:

Quote:
"There is such a vast amount of data that was accumulated over time that is personal in nature. Everything from pictures, to personal documents to photographs, and text messages, and and emails. And just the sheer volume of what we're dealing with it would be difficult, if not impossible, to fabricate," said Sean Lanterman, the company's incident response director.

Lanterman said the data was accumulated over time in a manner "consistent with normal, everyday use of a computer."
Now you may wonder why in the world they are verifying this now; obviously it's because with the House planning an investigation into Hunter's business interests, they can no longer 'cover' this story the way they usually do--with a pillow until it stops moving.

The claim was never, and has no need to be, that every bit of data on the drive was faked.

You left out, "Some other versions of the laptop data circulated later appeared to have had data added after April 2019, a sign they could have been tampered with, according to reports in other media outlets, including The Washington Post.*"

And if the data that shows new bad actions (everyone knows his drug problems) is from the altered copies, then the presence of unaltered ones is meaningless.

All this indicates is that there probably was at one point a copy of actual Hunter Biden data...which we also already knew.

Correction... CBS is saying that the data contained on the hard drive copy they obtained appears legitimate. It does not mean that the data wasn't illegally copied and compiled prior to 2019, nor does it confirm the "hunter biden drops off laptop at some random repair shop" story.

Now you may wonder why in the world they are verifying this now; obviously it's because with the House planning an investigation into Hunter's business interests, they can no longer 'cover' this story the way they usually do--with a pillow until it stops moving.
No, what I'm wondering is why, if it was so easy to get a "clean" copy of the data (i.e. with no evidence of hacks), that the clean version wasn't the one that was in circulation.

Was this a case of:
- Clean laptop with no evidence of criminal activity
- Laptop copied
- Copy has incriminating evidence added
- Clean laptop then verified, which leads the MAGAchud to falsly assume that the copied/corrupted version of the laptop was verified.

Ohhhhhh *******************. Well theres Thanksgiving dinner ruined. I'll be hearing all about it while rolling my eyes and nodding.

I'm sure this is a case of there is a tiny grain of truth in it somewhere but its magnified 1000x over by the GoP. Yes yes we all know Hunter Biden was a drug addict, so lets remove Joe Biden from office.

I guess our resident righties have to try and justify why the first thing Republicans did was announce this fishing expedition rather than their plans for the things they complained about like gas prices, inflation, supply chain issues, etc.

Also wasn't crime supposedly out of control at some point recently? I guess all these problems that Republicans have been harping on for months just magically solved themselves after the election, and now we can move on to the really important issues.

Of course, they lead with 'no evidence of tampering or fabrication', but as you read deeper it becomes pretty clear they know it's the real deal:

Hooray! After three and a half years of intense investigation, Republicans have proven that Hunter Biden owned a laptop...

Well, they need to start digging up some dirt...2024 is quickly approaching.

And trying to fix the things you mentioned would primarily be viewed as a political win for Dems. Best to let that public disdain for Biden simmer, imo. Can't risk him getting credit for the hard work of the GOP. Right?
