Trump's cancelled visit to Denmark, Greenland and the Ukraine quid pro quo:

Quote:
As the top US diplomat in Ukraine was working to release frozen security assistance to Kiev, he discovered the focus back in Washington was elsewhere: President Donald Trump's interest in buying Greenland.
Speaking to impeachment committees last month, Ambassador Bill Taylor described difficulty in convening a meeting of top-level Cabinet officials with Trump to discuss the Ukraine assistance, which was put on hold over the summer.
Part of the issue was logistics, he said. But it also came as national security officials inside the White House were scrambling to contain Trump's Greenland idea.
"It turns out, Mr. Chairman, that those principals, as we call them, were on different trips at different times," he said during his closed-door deposition, a transcript of which was released on Wednesday. "I think this was also about the time of the Greenland question, about purchasing Greenland, which took up a lot of energy in the NSC."
Trump raised the idea of purchasing Greenland -- an autonomous Danish territory -- on multiple occasions over the past year. It was first reported in mid-August that he was interested. After the Danish government shot the idea down, Trump canceled a planned trip to Copenhagen.

Many more people, but very little real estate! I think I've already mentioned that I would welcome three million new salsa dancers to the Danish Realm. Vivir Mi Vida!

How about the Virgin Islands for the Faroe Islands? USA vil placere en arktisk flåde på Færøerne (Berlingske.dk, July 7, 2020)

However, the Greenlanders and the Faroese don't seem too keen on swapping.

Huh, thread necromancy.

I liked theprestige's efforts to convince people that no self-respecting human would demonstrate against Trump. These amateur propaganda efforts are as amusing as pathetic.

There has been no defence offered on any threads in this forum that I have seen for quite some time. Just the occasional throw-away remark that indicates displeasure with how things are going for Trump.

Once we all figured out where we stand, it became a simple question of who needed to keep talking about it.

It’s politics. In order to remain front and center it is necessary to have one’s opinions publicized on a daily basis. Trump and his cronies particularly good at this. Silence in politics quickly leads to perceived irrelevance, which in turn quickly leads to actual irrelevance. Silence by Trump supporters in the politics threads in this forum has resulted in Trump being criticized and ridiculed with no response or defence. Trump supporters are not supporting Trump an therefore have no relevance.

For the record, I am not sure I can actually recall your position on Trump. I think you actually support his policies on a number of real issues but also concede that his personality issues are a problem. I could easily be wrong. It seems that assuming that others on a public forum will clearly recall your thoughts on a topic may not be the best approach if you want your position to remain relevant.

You'd think Pompaus would at least have some basic political instincts here. All he had to do was say no and there's no story. Now, Trump's old stupidity becomes new again, right before the election. I don't think this will matter much in the long run but Trump is in an electoral hole right now. He should remember the first rule of holes.

Well, some kind of cooperation is certainly in our interest, and in that of Greenland. Geopolitical interest in the Arctic is steadily rising, and the US will certainly be the least of evils.
