I think you missed my point, there.

Yeah, all the reports seem to indicate that he was well down the Incel rabbit hole by that point, and this was another case of a disaffected and emotionally disturbed young man lashing out. I'd definitely put it in the same category as Columbine, and he was most likely emulating them directly, given his fascination with previous such shootings.

Politically, he doesn't appear to have been serious about anything, but was most likely just going for the shock/anti-authority value of it, given that he also seems to have described himself as a satanist.

Like the Klebold and Harris, this appears to be far more about notoriety than politics, and the "antifa" link is a red-herring.

1. strange whataboutisms and weird accusations that don't make sense, probably to derail the thread. "Oh my god, you want us to take action! How scary! You must want to put people in jail for disagreeing with you! You people are a threat to society!"

2. talking about how holodomor is or isn't indicative of "socialism". Not Stalinism or even the broader term communism, but "socialism", that oversimplified term used for everyone on the left. This is something I've seen a lot in Norway latelly, words like "immigrant", "Muslim", and "socialist" used broadly to cover way more people and ideas than intended. Everyone who has brown skin is a "Muslim". Everyone on the left is a "socialist", and since Venezuela and the Soviet Union were socialist countries, socialists are horrible people who want Norway to become such a country.

3. quibbling over minor details instead of actually refuting points. Yes, the Nazis killed 11 million in the Holocaust, but was the Holocaust intended by the Nazis all along? Is mass murder inherent in Nazism? Is this or that really terrorism? Can I manage to make you discuss this for several pages instead of the topic of the OP? Etc.

I don't know if you are doing these things deliberately, like the people described in the OP, but you sure fit the bill.

More on-topic, thanks to the OP and others who supplied links. That style guide was indeed pretty scary.

Here's a very good Twitter series about how the fascist recruitment process works, in a nutshell, taking advantage of the emotional immaturity and isolationism/separatism of young-white-male-dominated "nerd culture" venues.

It's not just the alt.right, of course, other extremists have begun using similar tactics in social media spaces, including Islamist extremists like ISIS, with the ethnicity of target being the only significant difference between the various groups.

This is a common tactic used by creationists, climate-change deniers, and other woos. Derail discussion by nitpicking details isolated from context, and arguing semantics. A distraction tactic used by those who have no factual support for their arguments. A popular enough tactic that a version of it is explicitly described in the Daily Stormer's propaganda guide linked earlier in the thread.
