"Alt-right" ship stranded in Med

An "alt-right" anti-immigrant ship called the "C-Star" suffered an equipment failure and lost propulsion, and had to be rescued by a refugee-response ship.

The C-Star is owned by Defend Europe, which is like a kind of neo-Nazi Sea Shepherds except that instead of interfering with Japanese ships' attempts to hunt whales, it interferes with rescue and recovery efforts by ships that patrol common migrant routes looking for refugee vessels in distress. Ships such as the one that has now been dispatched to rescue it.

Well, I guess they're interfering with that vessel's operation, so they'll count it as a win.

Send them to Davy Jones' Locker.

From the link:

Quote:
Defend Europe previously accused Sea-Eye, and other groups, of “colluding” with Libyan human traffickers. Yet Defend Europe’s C-Star was itself recently detained in the self-declared Turkish state of Northern Cyprus for document forgery and potential human trafficking of 20 Sri Lankan nationals found on board. Turkish Cypriot authorities deported nine crew members, including the captain, and a German “second captain” alleged to be a neo-Nazi.

If you followed the C-STAR oddysee it's easy to believe that this is the latest round of the impressive stream of fake news surrounding it (read shemp's snippet and wonder how they are in Libyan waters now). Tracking info says that around when the news broke the C-STAR was 100 kms away from the Sea Eye (turqoise ship center right, violet small ship center top-left).

Not sure what any of that has to do with anything. Being "stranded" and a rescue ship having to be dispatched does tend to mean one wasn't in the immediate vicinity.

This certainly highlights one of the challenges, morally and ethically speaking, that face emergency and rescue people all over the world; when they must perform their duties to their utmost regardless of the recipients.

FAKE NEWS

From the Beeb
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-40903492]

Quote:
A German migrant rescue group says a vessel carrying far-right activists that has run into trouble in the Mediterranean has refused their help.
The Sea-Eye charity says it was asked by the Italian coastguard to assist the C-Star ship because it was in distress.
But the French-based group Génération Identitaire (GI), which runs the C-Star, denied this, saying it had only a "minor technical problem".

Did anyone interfere with the rescue mission?
