Thinkspot welcomes Michael Shermer to their contributors team

(Wasn't sure which forum to post this into, but thought General Skepticism was the best fit.)

Jordan Petersen's long awaited echo chamber social media site ("Thinkspot") has [launched in beta], and the panel of contributors users can subscribe to includes Michael Shermer. His peers include Bjørn LomborgWP, Bettina ArndtWP, and some others.

That's basically all I wanted to post, in case ISF members weren't aware and might have opinions on that.

Not just sign up - it's subscription based, so costs money.
The site is in beta at this point, but they still want people to pay to subscribe to the beta content by contributors like Shermer.

I wasn't familiar with either Jordan Peterson or Thinkspot, but a quick Google search turned up an article on Right Wing Watch which explains a bit about who Peterson is and what Thinkspot is like. Here's an excerpt:

Originally Posted by Jared Holt on Right Wing Watch
‘Thinkspot’ Might Be Jordan Peterson’s Best Grift Yet

Psychology-professor-turned-right-wing-commentator Jordan B. Peterson teamed up with “classical liberal” BlazeTV host Dave Rubin and ditched the crowdfunding website Patreon last year after it cracked down on hate speech and wound up banning YouTube personality Carl “Sargon of Akkad” Benjamin. The duo vowed to create an alternative site and, nearly a year later, have launched an early version of their creation “Thinkspot”—an absolute mess that is ripe for disaster.

Peterson is a right-wing cult phenomenon, having risen to prominence for his vocal mischaracterization of and opposition to Canadian human rights legislation that forbids discrimination based on gender identity or expression. He made a media career out of expressing anger at the idea he would have to address students by their preferred pronouns, something he denounced as “cultural Marxism.” Rubin has made his living by claiming to be a “liberal” but saying, doing, and believing everything a Republican does; he currently works for Glenn Beck.

Late last year, the pair began soliciting money from their overlapping fan bases to build and develop the website that would come to be known as Thinkspot. After delays, the site is now in beta testing...

After agreeing to the terms and conditions, users are prompted to select either a “platform” plan or a “contributor + platform plan.” To make posts on the website, you will need to pay—a quid pro post, if you will...

The suggested donation for the simple platform plan is $30 per year; the link for the contributor+ plan redirects to a page where users can opt to give money to specific creators in order to access special content. The creator subscriptions begin at a special introductory price of $30 per year, but if users want the big gun—Peterson’s exclusive content—that will set them back $120, which is allegedly half the price it will cost them when the unspecified introductory period concludes...

If that excerpt is TLDR, here's a shorter summary from near the end of the article:

Quote:
Peterson’s website, like much of the rest of his career, appears to be little more than smash-and-grab jockeying for his fans’ money.

Whatever makes you think someone here might have an opinion on that?

Because everyone here has an opinion on everything?

Oh. And by the way. Trump.

Peterson not even trying to hide the contempt he has for his audience. This is a naked grift.

One report on this dumpster fire of a website had white nationalist and notorious mega-creep Stefan Molyneux as the top poster. Great content!

Not really. The symbol for iron is Fe, so calling his website a Fetish site would make it kind of ironic. Calling it a beta site seems more like a way of letting people know that using it is a gamble.

So it's both a beta site and a Bettina site. Sounds even more like the site is a gamble -- and probably a losing one at that.

So is Peterson just a full on pseudo-science quack now?

Sounds like he damn near killed himself when he went doctor shopping in Russia to treat his benzo dependancy. His daughter claims that they didn't trust American or Canadian doctors because they are influenced by the pharmaceutical industry.

Eating an all meat diet while taking loads of benzos - sounds like just the kind of guy that should be giving people advice on how to live their lives.

"Clean your room" for thee, but "induced detox coma in Russia" for me. A tale as old as time.
