Krishnan Guru-Murthy called Steve Baker MP a c-word on C4 news earlier this evening, and then Peston called Jeremy Hunt the same word on ITV.

My (detestable) Tory MP, despite standing on an anti-fracking platform, lined up like a good little boy and voted with the government tonight. He won't be forgiven in this constituency - we had a safe Labour seat until our MP supported fracking. He's getting eviscerated on Twitter.

What is the shortest time in office for a PM?
I think Truss might soon set a record.

George Canning, 119 days because he died. Truss is currently at 43 days, and whilst I don't expect her to die, I can't imagine she'll cling on for another 76 days.

And who will take her place?
I get the impression that the more capable Conservatives don't want the freaking job at the moment.
Rees Morgan might make it yet......

Current record holder is George Canning, at 118 or 119 days (his wikipedia page uses both numbers, confusingly).

Either way, Truss is facing an uphill struggle to match his longevity.

The thing you must however remember is that the Conservative Party is the party of stability and propriety. It's the party of fiscal responsibility and smaller government.

If Labour had been in power then we'd be in turmoil rather than the calm waters we are in now and Government debt would be spiralling out of control and fiscal policy would be changing from day to day - quite unlike now.

What is currently going on is exactly what happens when the government isn't interested in governing, only in generating positive headlines. It's also what happens when government is hijacked by vested interests rather than considering what the people need.

Unfortunately we have a press which is content to enable the government.

Yeah we passed the happy clappy clown stage a long time, we’ve now gone through the “It” clown, passed by Papa Lazarou and we are now somewhere we’ve never been before.

We’ve had idiots and incompetents in governments forever but I don’t think we’ve ever had a government consisting of so many idiots, and so many mediocre and stupid people. They aren’t even 2nd rate.

That's as maybe, and this did have a big look of heffalump trap, but it points out what a sham our supposedly representative democracy is, with none of those useless ******* representing their constituents. And shows us who the blowhards are.

One of the criticisms of any form of PR involving party lists or multi-member constituencies is that it cedes control of local choice to the parties and removes an element of local representation. But last night's cluster-**** is better and more representative of local wishes in what way?

Are either of the whips in question the MP of anyone here? If so can you ask them, as interested constituents, if Truss is facing action for not voting in that confidence in her vote?

Inquiring minds need to know just how hypocritical they are being.

ETA Superceded by more accurateinformation than I had from last night (see below).

Curiously* I looked in Hansard this morning and they both are reported to have voted

So the suggestion reported in the Graun that Truss was involved in heated discussion with one of them was how she missed the vote would then be utter and complete and total faecal matter of the bovine or a total complete and utter lie?

The Guardian's table of how MPs voted has been updated.

https://www.theguardian.com/environm...racking-motion

It says at the bottom:

Quote:
This article was updated to reflect a change in the official House of Commons data on the vote. While the data previously said that Liz Truss did not vote, it now says that she voted against the motion. It has been reported that she was distracted by the scenes witnessed in the voting lobbies, including the reported temporary resignation of the chief whip. It is not unusual for small amendments to be made to the voting record in the hours after a vote.

Bugger!

I was going off the reported voting in the couple of hours after the vote.

I must admit to some confirmation bias, as it would have confirmed just how stupid I think Truss is...

Indeed initially it appeared the abstainers included THE PM HERSELF, to the surprise of myself, others and a number of MPs.

Luckily for her it turns out she DID vote no. She was just presumably too busy being chewed out by her own chief whip to tap the digital vote recorder.

I was going to suggest that for shiggles, at this stage of the comedic farce, giving Jacob Rees-Mogg a run in the PM position would be...well, not so much icing on the cake as finely-crafted manure on a dung-heap. But having seen the fracas and knowing him and seeing this quote, it would be arsenic salts on an open wound. The only way it could be guaranteed to be worse.
