US Army Sponsorship

The US army sponsor the NFL.

Is it just me that finds that really, really, really weird?

What is weird about young NFL watchers being identified as a good source of recruits? It's the targeted advertising principle.

It's only odd if you're thinking about Trump's deep hatred of the league. Otherwise, as Casebro says, it makes perfect sense.

It's a good fit along side his thinly disguised contempt for the military. He wants them parading in front of him instead of just going to visit.

They've sponsored race cars in the past too.

While it might seem like a good idea to target advertising at the demographic most likely to join, for a 'product' like military enlistment, a lot of the budget would be better spent seeking to broaden the base and tap under-served markets.

What's really weird is that the Air Force doesn't sponsor PGA events...

Problem is the demo for recruitment is rather narrow; the Military wants them young;late twenties is about the latest t hey will condiers you.
The NFL is pretty much perfect for the demo they are after.

That will depend upon where they're getting their telecast. The demographic they're most interested is rapidly declining as an NFL television audience. Someone who follows on line will have to inform me - do commercials air on the internet coverage? That's the best guess as to where those viewers are satisfying their football jones.

I don't suppose their NFL ads talk about the NFL veteran that was killed by his own side, followed by a massive coverup?

I suppose, ultimately, it's no different to advertising, but I still think it's odd.
