Assange Rape Charge - a convenient charge at a convenient time which shut down one of America's and Europe's biggest critics.
Too convenient. Too Timely. |

Yeah, Jules is really all over the place with this one: The girl is a filthy slut who was asking for it. Assange deserves to be punished for raping her (note he hasn't even been to trial yet!). The whole thing is a set up by the US to silence Assange (who hasn't actually been silenced).
And of course Jules hasn't actually read the thread. |

Assange, a don quixote of modern times He should have not helped the stupid majority learn the hard facts that the stupid majority was cheated upon He should have instead spied on the US and sold secrets to China He would have accelerated the already fast collapse of the empire and made money all the way |

This appears on the Daily Kos but it seems a bit suspect to me. The only report seems to be a from a low traffic dating site.

I actually appreciated a preliminary debunk of this.
And it's not third hand drivel, it's from the dating-company itself it seems. So maybe first hand-drivel ![]() Even if untrue, which seems likely, the story might explain the internet connection issue. Assange explicitly accused Ecuador of responsibility in a tweet today. Might be a reaction to the story. https://twitter.com/wikileaks/status/788099178832420865 |

Why can't he get internet access? That area should get good 4G according to Ofcom's postcode check.
As regards the accusation the key "evidence" seems to be a cached document. Anyone know how reliable that is? I don't know unglobalcompact's setup but it's possible that they were in fact the ones who posted that while they were still members. With 9000 companies and 4000 "non-business" members I suspect their initial membership check is none too rigorous. Possibly they spotted these people planting a document, checked on them and decided a rather dubious looking dating site may not be for them. Their project Katia claims to have been written by a NotreDame mathematician, it was a guy who graduated in maths from ND so a bit of a stretch. My gut feeling is that if there was a shred of plausible support certain parties would be all over it. |

Even as a joke (which likely makes it worse as such things are not a joking matter) this is pathetically disgusting. Good day sir, I said, Good day sir!

I'd say that cutting off his internet is going to do more to get him to surrender to the police than any government pressure.
Just imagine it. No communicating to the world how innocent and misunderstood he is. No adoring fans commenting on his posts. And worst of all, no internet porn. |

It is good that Americans and pro-US people continue in their sleep while the rich take their money
Heck, was it Trump who said that US wages have decreased in the last 20 years? Assage should have worked FOR the riches not against them Would have made some money, poor guy Maybe selling the Chinese one of the few remaining tech secrets of the US or something like that |

Very unlikely as it would block all signals not just those for Assange, which would make the normal day to day work of the embassy more difficult. More likely they disabled his logon credentials either to their Wifi or LAN, whichever he used. Given the nature of Wikileaks, I doubt someone like Assange would use anything other than a wired connection for sensitive communications.

Right, but I was responding to Wudang's question about how Assange didn't have internet access in a good 4G reception area. The technology to locally knock out devices in a short radius is cheap and simple. A few years back a buddy of mine bought one on eBay to stop his daughter from using the phone while driving; we found it's effective radius to be about 10-15 feet. And I would assume security protocols would monitor hard line communications on the Embassy's network. |

Wikileaks mission is to foster openness and transparency in governments and corporations worldwide. They rely on donations for support and are not really trying to get rich off their activities, but are trying to wake people up regarding what goes on away from the headlines.

Assange is a publisher. People send him information so that he will publish it. People who want to send secrets to China send them to China, not to Wikileaks. If Assange started selling secrets to China instead of publishing them, he would lose credibility as a publisher. People would stop sending him secrets.
Besides, the Chinese already have plenty of people to send them tech secrets. These are people who have the qualifications and credentials to work in aerospace and other industries where they will be exposed to tech advances. They are also people who are American citizens that can pass a background check and get a security clearance, so that they will have access to the kinds of tech secrets China is looking for. Assange has none of these qualities. The people that do, who are interested in selling secrets to China, don't need Assange's help to do it. All in all, if you want Assange to work in opposition to the US, his continued work publishing through Wikileaks is probably his best contribution. Earning money by selling tech secrets to China isn't really an option for him. ETA: Anyway, what do you think Assange's anti-American efforts have to do with the topic of this thread? -- Accusations of rape against Assange in Sweden. -- The Swedish government's attempt to investigate these accusations. -- Assange's ongoing efforts to prevent the progress of the Swedish investigation. Also, this thread has been going on for a while. A lot of anti-US ideas have been expressed and discussed already. If you read through it, you might find some good arguments have already been made. You will also see many examples of how to express anti-US views without being sanctioned by the moderators. |
