PPD seems to be slow walking another criminal investigation in which anti-police protestors are the victims yet again. 48 hrs after a mass shooting attack and no charges for the shooter. Fortunately this man was ventilated by a marcher and isn't expected to be going anywhere under his own power anytime soon.
Hey, it can take a long time to figure out how to charge the media and the protestors with the blame for being shot at.

Ben Smith, the man who opened fire on unarmed protestors, has finally been charged:

Quote:
In seeking an arrest warrant, prosecutors have charged Smith with one count of second degree murder, four counts of attempted first degree murder with a firearm, as well as four counts of assault with a firearm.

Court records filed Tuesday also state that one victim was “paralyzed from the neck down” and is hospitalized in critical condition. Three other victims were also shot in multiple places, and one of them remains hospitalized. The two others have been treated and released.
The man that returned fire and critically wounded Smith, stopping the this spree shooting, has not been charged after prosecutors viewed the video.

PPD has had this video since the night of the incident, which makes their mealy mouthed "both sides" nonsense incredibly suspicious. Meanwhile journalists and antifascist researchers had no trouble interviewing eye witnesses (including gunshot victims) and finding a history of violent, extreme right ideology related to Smith. It turns out, the story of a man walking into an anti-police violence protest and opening fire is not actually that complicated.

Andy Ngo and other fascist propagandists did not waste the opportunity that the PPD created. They rushed to blame the victims and create confusion:

Quote:
Andy Ngo’s effort to downplay Portland shooter’s far-right ties falls apart
Andy Ngo and others rushed to frame the narrative about the deadly shooting.

Ngo displayed his usual fixation with vilifying antifa with a flurry of tweets blaming the victims and framing the shooting as something the far-left group was “involved” in.

“The incident happened because of the armed militant group being allowed to have routine unlawful gatherings where they shut down traffic and point guns at people to intimidate them,” Ngo tweeted on Sunday.

Ngo, several times, also said the narrative it was a far-right shooting was incorrect.

...

odcaster Tim Pool claimed that he was more likely to believe that Smith was shot in the back.

“This looks like self defense,” he also tweeted about the mass shooting.

KUSA is outsourcing much of the reporting of the event to reporters from other NBC affiliates. Not all of it, though. Couple of new videos, but they don't show much (second one autoplays after the first):

Matthew Dolloff was scheduled to stand trial in April for fatally shooting Lee Keltner in 2020

A spokeswoman for the Denver District Attorney’s Office on Thursday confirmed that prosecutors plan to dismiss the murder charge because they cannot overcome Dolloff’s statement that he acted in self-defense. Dolloff had not been charged with anything else in connection with the fatal shooting.

Ben Smith, another one of Andy Ngo's mass shooting super fans, has been indicted for one count of murder, 4 counts of attempted murder, and 3 counts of assault with a firearm.

Quote:
The man accused of killing a woman and shooting four other people during a Feb. 19 racial justice protest was arraigned Thursday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Benjamin Smith, 43, was charged with one count of murder, four counts of attempted murder and three counts of assault with a firearm. Smith was in a wheelchair when he appeared in court by video from the county’s Inverness jail.

He pleaded not guilty.
He appeared in a wheelchair because he was critically wounded when a protestor armed with a firearm shot him in the hip, ending the spree shooting targeting unarmed protestors. That protestor was not charged.

Quote:
Smith’s roommate Kristine Christenson said Smith had become more radicalized starting in the later years of the Obama administration, and that she heard him yelling racial slurs in his room and deriding women.

“He got angrier and angrier,” Christenson told OPB shortly after the shooting. “I have not been comfortable living with him for a while. I did not feel safe with him, especially this last two years with the whole COVID thing. I think that made him even more angry.”

Another right wing radicalized mass shooter.

Cop riot costs Denver 14 million in damages

Quote:
Federal jury awards $14 million to protesters injured in 2020 demonstrations in Denver
Jury finds First, Fourth amendment violations of protesters by police

A federal jury on Friday awarded $14 million in damages to 12 protesters who were injured by police officers in Denver during the 2020 protests in the first excessive force and civil rights trial coming out of the demonstrations over the death of George Floyd.

The jury’s award comes after a three-week trial in which the jury heard testimony about failures in leadership and coordination by police in responding to the protests in Denver and injuries suffered by protesters at the hands of officers from Denver and other nearby departments
Considering these tactics of deliberately misusing rubber bullets and other "less lethal" weapons were a common theme in the many police riots that happened in response to protests, it's probably not a great sign for other cities currently being sued for similar behaviors.

Quote:
The plaintiffs also alleged Fourth Amendment violations in using excessive force by firing the munitions often without warning and at sensitive parts of their bodies, like their heads.

Denver’s attorneys had argued that missteps and mistakes made by officers did not necessarily mean they had violated the constitutional rights of the demonstrators.

Civilian review boards finds that more than a hundred NYPD cops engaged in misconduct in response to the 2020 protests, many of which cannot be identified because they covered or removed their badges.

Quote:
A new report from an NYPD watchdog found more than 100 officers were guilty of misconduct during violent clashes with Black Lives Matter protesters back in the summer of 2020.

The report released Tuesday by the Civilian Complaint Review Board, the NYPD’s oversight agency, came nearly two years after protests rocked New York City following the police-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The weeks of protest were met with an incredible amount of police manpower and interactions with demonstrators turned violent on multiple occasions — many of them caught on video and shared on social media.

...

Additionally, the report indicated that one-third of the complaints could not be fully investigated because the agency couldn’t identify the officers involved, most often because officers hid identifying markers on their uniforms.

“The CCRB has seen unprecedented challenges in investigating these complaints, particularly around the identification of officers due to the failure to follow proper protocols, officers covering their names and shield, officers wearing protective equipment that did not belong to them, the lack of proper use of body-worn cameras, as well as incomplete and severely delayed paperwork,” the agency wrote in the report.

More broken windows in PDX https://www.thedailybeast.com/native...th-a-cop-event
The Native American owner said:

“I’m hoping they’re trying to make a change from all the stuff that happened over the years,” Guzman said of the Portland Police Bureau. “You don’t have the answers, but maybe you can try to figure things out, to make things better.”
Fixing the problem is the last thing in this world these rioters want or hope for. Their demand is not reform or improvement, but abolition.
reminds me of this
Quote:
The demands of extremists are meant to be impossible to fulfill: America must convert to Islam, Ukraine must accept Moscow’s rule, the election must be overturned and Mike Pence hanged. People issuing such demands are not interested in discussion or compromise; indeed, they’d be disappointed if they got what they wanted, because their anger sustains them and gives meaning to their lives. When faced with such movements and their demands, there is only one response: Contain and defeat.
