Thanks.
I never knew it worked like that in the US (not with these costs anyway). Here I pay just shy of 400 euro's per month for the two of us. this is not too dissimilar to what you pay. The amount of 'out of pocket' per year though, is about the same as my monthly fee, namely 385 euro's. Several basic kinds of medical services, like a visit to the general practitioner, are not paid from that 'out of pocket' money. Note that I have a very comprehensive insurance and that the average monthly fee, is, I believe, about half of ours (a bit more than a half). |

I think “indifference” to the poor is more is more accurate. Insurance companies are in the business of making money not of orchestrating the Final Solution. The point is that if someone asked the insurance companies, “but how do these costs help the poor to afford or have access the healthcare?” The answer is “who cares? Not our problem! The business of business is business!” (Though maybe there will be some PR-inspired faux-CSR campaign for all I know which actually gives them some moral licensing cover - this last bit is just speculation.)

Meadmaker is stating the facts. Those are the costs for health insurance in the USA right now. I’m on an employer plan and the monthly cost for a single employee on the basic HMO plan is $359 (of which our employer pays 65%). It’s double that for employee/spouse or employee/children or $718 (-$233.35). It’s $1436 (-$233.35) for employee family. |

(Wasn't sure where to post this... the topic was discussed in several threads, including the Biden election threads, and it didn't deserve a thread of its own.)
Remember Hunter Biden's laptop? How it was proof of crime? Well, its time to come up with all new jokes about it. From: The Verge John Paul Mac Isaac was the owner of The Mac Shop...In October, the New York Post reported that The Mac Shop had been paid to recover data from a laptop belonging to Joe Biden’s son Hunter...After the Post’s sourcing and conclusions were disputed, Facebook and Twitter both restricted the article’s reach, and Twitter pointed to its ban on posting “hacked materials” as an explanation....Mac Isaac claims Twitter specifically made this decision to “communicate to the world that [Mac Isaac] is a hacker.” He says that his business began to receive threats and negative reviews after Twitter’s moderation decision... ... Mac Isaac is nonetheless demanding $500 million ... Update December 30th, 9AM ET: A Florida judge dismissed Mac Isaac’s complaint within a day of its filing, saying the state’s federal court did not have jurisdiction So many things wrong... - The claim that the bad reviews, etc. were because he was considered a "hacker" rather than a trump stooge. - The rather... excessive amount of the claim - His problem filing with the correct court |

Re: MacIssac suing Twitter over his "reputation"...
And of course that's assuming the laptop (and the material that was on it) actually belonged to Hunter Biden in the first place. Looks just as bad (if not worse) to have a shop owner slander a customer with false accusations. |

I'm just playing devil's advocate.
Assume Biden really did leave the laptop there and the bill went overdue and the laptop became the shop's property... Combing through your clients data and forwarding it to the tabloids and a partisan hack like Giuliani is horridly unprofessional. A reasonable person would have just wiped the laptop and accepted it as free hardware without probing through the dirty laundry. Is there really a defamation claim here? Seems to me that, by the repairman's own admission, he nuked his own reputation through his actions. Even the most charitable reading of events is that this guy was a huge creep. |
