No, but Swedish authorities recently decided that the more than 10,000 Covid-19 deaths were probably only less than 7,000 corresponding to excess mortality and in line with the idea that the difference of more than 3,000 deaths would then consist of people who would died from something else anyway. |

In a Tweet, somebody just pointed out that you are more likely to die in a car accident if you are obese, so maybe we should replace the preposition: They die with car accidents!

dann, can you tell us something about how the vaccinations proceed in Sweden? Are they on track?
I have noticed that in most countries people complain about vaccination proceedings. In Austria vaccinations have stalled because somebody had forgot to order enough needles! |

Meanwhile, because Ivor Patreon Account Cummins has irked me, I've now downloaded *Norway's* weekly death statistics from https://www.ssb.no/en/statbank/list/dode/
This is what other countries should have been aiming for - especially Sweden, with similar advantages of small households and relative wealth. or cumulative numbers for 2015-2020 |

There are problems with delayed reporting in this area, too. The number 80,000 vaccinations was mentioned a few days ago: Statistik över vaccinerade mot covid-19 (Folkhälsomyndigheten) Not much in comparison to Denmark's 167,011 vaccinations (2.86% of pop.), but Denmark appears to be #1 in the class of EU countries. It is impossible to know how Sweden is actually doing when their reporting is such a mess: - Vi har exakt samma vaccin och volymer i relation till befolkningen. Får vi bara fram vår rapportering kommer vi kunna se att Sverige ligger i topp bland de 10-15 första, säger vaccinsamordnaren Richard Bergström. - We have the exact same vaccine and volumes in proportion to the population. If only we can get our reporting going, we will be able to see that Sweden is among the 10 to 15 best, says vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström. For the past couple of weeks, I have been more active in the thread of the Swedish skeptics: Vilka nationella eller regionala åtgärder mot coronavirus är evidensbaserade? The experience has been much the same as here: The pseudo skeptics have more or less vacated the premises. The first page was all about how Sweden's pandemic response was evidence-based unlike all other countries, in particular Denmark. More and more Swedes are realizing that Sweden's pandemic strategy may have been exceptional, but not the way they thought. It has been a rude awakening, and many of them are experiencing a cognitive dissonance at the level of U.S. Republicans right now. There is a TV program tonight at 8 p.m. on Swedish TV: Agenda. PM Löfven, Minister of Social Affairs Hallengren and state epidemiologist Tegnell will be there. Vetenskapsforum Covid-19 wrote this:

Some countries have had the opposite experience of excess deaths because their coronavirus restrictions also limited the spread of the ordinary flu and other infectious diseases. That might have been the case in Denmark, too, if we had tackled the second wave as soon as it raised its ugly head instead of waiting a couple of weeks. At least, things are starting to look good again, and I don't see any signs of intentions to relax the restrictions for now. |

I thought that they had finally started wearing face masks on public transport in rush-hour traffic, but that is still not the case:
Packade bussar i morgonrusningen – men få använder munskydd (SVT.se, Jan. 20, 2021) Crowded busses during morning rush hour – but few passengers are wearing face masks And it is still only a recommendation. And this is how they celebrate being vaccinated in nursing homes:

One of the first things I learned to tell clients, as a young vet, was "go on keeping him away from other dogs and places where other dogs might have been for two weeks after his second vaccination." It's not rocket science. |

That first article is fascinating. And the very idea that these fanatics were trying to influence Johnson (who is known for simply seeking some justification for what he wants to do anyway) not to impose a lockdown when England was clearly heading for the rocks is appalling.

Giesecke and Tegnell will do anything to make Sweden look good in comparison, I think. Like when they are offended by other Nordic countries closing their borders to Swedish travelers.

And protecting the elderly in particular while the disease was spreading in the less vulnerable population in order to build herd immunity was supposed to be the Swedish strategy ... |

Now I feel cheated! My computer didn't warn me at all! Nothing happened, but still ...
![]() By the way, a Swedish professor of infectious diseases, Anders Björkman, is very fond of comparisons with Norway. He is trying to sell the idea that the obvious difference in death toll had nothing to do with different strategies and everything to do with the R0 being bigger in Sweden, for some reason. |

And what could that reason possibly have been I wonder? Could it have had anything to do with, perhaps, gasp, I know it's a long shot, Sweden's different strategy? |
