Scientists shed light on how and why some people report "hearing the dead"
Spiritualist mediums might be more prone to immersive mental activities and unusual auditory experiences early in life, according to new research.
This might explain why some people and not others eventually adopt spiritualist beliefs and engage in the practice of 'hearing the dead', the study led by Durham University found.... https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_relea...-ssl011421.php |

Sticking to the subject...Here's a link to the full paper - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full...6.2020.1793310.
How about starting another thread devoted to any evidence for hearing spirits? That might be fun... |

So they asked people who claim on a questionnaire to hear the dead talking and compared them to people who don't claim to hear the dead talking.
Searching the doc for money, financial, and excluded as in who they excluded from the study came up with no results. This study is a crock of ****. They made no effort that I can see to exclude people who pretend to talk to the dead for money, many of which have been proven frauds. |

They did (rightly) acknowledge limitations of self-report questionaires (oh, don't get me started on self-report and how much reliance some put on it...), but you are right in saying that, certainly as far as I could see, no mention is made of anyone being paid for "talking to the dead" or anything like and thus being excluded. Not excluding that is certainly problematic - academics can be quite naive at times, in a way that clinicians often aren't (we've been lied to so many times or given slanted answers or outright mistaken answers....and we know it).
