What's even scarier than Trump's nonsensical ramblings are that there are so many idiots who nod, clap and cheer for him when he says them.

That's why I even said it was less legitimate than the CLAIM that Al Gore invented the internet. Considering that Al Gore never even said that, the claim that Al Gore invented the internet is still more valid than the claim that Lee Zeldin has done more to advance science than his opponent.

Mmm. If you actually want to go deeper into the Trump/Thanos comparison, there are notable differences, of course.
To use the movie version for ease's sake - Thanos actively worked to kill half the life in the universe as his very short term solution to solve a problem that wasn't actually a problem in most of where the solution was applied and caused a heck of a lot more problems that were much worse in many places. Sociopathy and Idiocy seem pretty intrinsic in that, in a rather modern day "conservative" way - empathy for a rather limited set of people and easily obsessed with harmful ideas that would indeed be a direct solution to a specific problem (I'm immediately reminded of the right-wing sentiment that I heard from a number of right-wingers, and only right-wingers, that we should just nuke North Korea and be done with it, which would indeed solve that problem while causing a heck of a lot more, among other things). On the other hand, he tried to apply it "fairly" and, once he accomplished his goal/obsession, he relinquished power entirely and removed himself from the playing field. He was strong, intelligent, dedicated, and arguably selfless, even if he was also sociopathic and was pursuing an idiotic goal. Very little of that applies to Trump, I think. Trump's actions to try to kill us are in a completely different vein, where the main higher goal is to try to save face and rally support to stay in power. |

That's always been with the problem with Trump. He has zero good qualities.
I think that's missed in a lot of "Is Trump the worst President ever?" discussions or when we get told that we Bush (take your pick) or Reagan shouldn't be remembered more fondly because they compare favorably to Trump. It's not that exactly. It's that there are absolutely no positives to Trump. You can argue that Bush, Reagan, Nixons, etc good qualities didn't make up for their bad ones, but at least they had good qualities to put on the scale to be weighed, even if the scale was still laughably lopsided. |

Well, the Secret Service are only human. Can you imagine being around that guy all the time? The temptation must be terrible: "Well, she's carrying a knife in each hand and is frothing at the mouth. I say we give her the benefit of the doubt and let her talk to him alone for a few minutes."

The perfect example of Trumpism.
Sure the women say they don’t like me, but c’mon. Who’s going to turn down a slice of this.He is completely ignoring what women say. He is doing it partly out of having no respect for women and partly because he cannot conceive of any world which lacks all women (even the lesbians) wanting to sleep with him. |

Trump said "People are pandemic'd-out. You know that? They're pandemic'd-out. That's why it's so great what your governor has done. He's opened up your state ... by the way, you get it ... I'm here. And now I'm immune. I can jump into this audience and kiss every man and woman"

Trump Tweets
Governor Cuomo has shown tremendously poor leadership skills in running N.Y. Bad time for him to be writing and promoting a book, especially since he has done such a poor job with Covid and Crime. So many unnecessary deaths. The City & State have sunk to historic lows... ....Washington wants nothing to do with him, and that’s so bad for New York, which has become a ghost town. Andrew spends too much time listening to his brother, Fredo. Forget the books and your apology tour. The Federal Government would love to help New York regain its luster! |

This is why I find it extremely unlikely Trump will win in two weeks. In 2016, Trump had a reasonably disciplined strategy going after key swing, Rust Belt states. What's he doing going for New York voters? Biden has a 30 point lead in New York. He needs to focus on the toss-up states and try to bring back at least one of the lean blue states he won in 2016. He shouldn't be wasting a single tweet or throw away line on New York. This smacks of desperation.

For a normal person, that would sound like desperation.
But we should note three things First, Trump’s philosophy has always been, “ as everybody goes through life, one needs to stop and insult the people and things that you hate. I don’t want to be one of those people who sit on death beds and say ‘I wish I spent more time telling the people I hate exactly how much I hated them”.’ 2. In MAGAland, you can never go wrong insulting New York. (C) as Trump’s mind ossifies, he becomes less creative. So, when he needs an insult he simply picks one that has been leveled at him. I think I read somewhere that this idea is part of a plan that is code-named Project Ion. |
