I wouldn't put it past them, considering they actually made ships out of concrete.

See, now this worries me. This is how you do it.

Pretty soon he'll suggest "ending the shutdown" by paying the ones who have been working, while just unofficially getting rid of a few hundred thousand federal jobs by by just never pushing to get them funded again.

A National Park Service with no Educational/Interpretive programs, no scientists, visitor services provided only by volunteers or funded by entrance fees (and contrary to popular belief, most of the NPS budget comes from general govvie revenue, not entrance fees).

A Forest Service that only caters to logging and hunting. Oil and gas mining and drilling get supported on Federal Lands, but the BLM does little else after this. Cattle grazing goes without meaningful oversight by the government that owns the land leased for cattle grazing.

And so on, throughout the unfunded agencies. Programs popular with Trump's base become "essential", nothing else does. Then he pushes to get those "essential" employees paid and no one else. The shutdown becomes painless enough to be permanent.

Kind of a Libertarian dream, but not even close to what the general public wants, or what has been determined through legislative process.
