It's been confirmed by the local hospital that the two dead are children.

Police have given an update saying that the shooter is also deceased.

CORRECTION: Apparently the state governor is giving a press conference right now. According to the governor's statement, 14 children and 1 teacher are dead. The suspect, an 18-year-old high school student, is also dead.

According to state data, this elementary school teaches grades 3 and 4.

Current reports are one teacher plus fourteen students. Shooter is alive and in custody (ETA: Spanked, not alive after all).

It was reported during the press conference that two responding police officers were shot but are expected to recover, so it would seem that they actively engaged the shooter, but it's not clear whether he was taken down during this or shot himself. I suppose it matters little.

Shooting his relative first and then going to and shooting up the elementary school is an unsettling parallel with Sandy Hook.

The executive branch, congressional Democrats and most of the major media have a lot of people fooled into believing that white men, like the Buffalo shooter, are regularly pulling off mass shootings and murdering minorities. In the seven days following the Buffalo shooting there have been 13 mass shootings with 12 killed and 59 wounded. Mostly black on black. As I said earlier it's extremely rare when a shooting like the one in Buffalo happens, it's been the opposite so far this year.

How quickly we forgot about the black nationalist who shot 10 people in a New York subway.

Being from Europe, did you hear about the Jewish Democrat mayoral candidate in Louisville, Kentucky who had a gunman walk into his campaign office and attempt to assassinate him? No? That's because he was a black BLM activist who had made an appearance on MSNBC and also espoused communist and socialist beliefs and liked to rag on "gun loving Republicans."

That act of political terrorism didn't even get a thread much less a post on this board, that I'm aware of.

If I wouldn't have mentioned it in this thread earlier, you probably wouldn't know about the Chinese man who walked into a predominantly Taiwanese church and opened fire, an act of political terrorism.

How about the Asian man who fired over 200 rounds from his fifth story Washington DC condo, injuring four including a 12-year-old child. How much have you heard about that one?

Yawn. I feel a lot more outrage about the fact that it takes something like this to get people loudly dramatic. There are so many mass shootings and killings that people just ignore. But when a group of kids get shot up, suddenly murder matters. The life of those kids isn't worth any more than the those of any of the people who are shot on a daily basis in this country.

Of course, the last body can barely hit the floor before some politicians and their supporters are using it as a political platform. Every time.

There are going to be signs that weren't acted on that the shooter was disturbed. From a local news station, a person familiar with the town said when word came about an active shooter at the school, parents thought Ramos could be the shooter.

Been watching Fox news coverage, just out of curiosity on the spin. Main message is that why don't these elementary schools have armed SRO's at each entrance, with metal detectors. Doesn't seem practical at any level (sure, guns in grade school). "Good guys with a gun."

Red flag laws, yeah I have mixed feelings about them, and haven't seem much about their efficacy. Not long enough for reliable, aggregate data. And obviously we're still in the fog of war point; there's nothing to suggest it. Could eventually be though.

I don't have kids, so cannot even relate to this tragedy as a parent would, but damn man, just how much more will it take for change? My guess is that there isn't a political will to do anything - if Sandy Hook didn't move the needle, doubt this will either. This is why mid-terms and control of Congress are so important.

The problem is, frankly, psychological signs are a tricky thing, and there might never be enough resources to check out everybody who sends out what could be "Warning Signs". I don't see that as a viable solution.
If are going to see every Moody Teenager are a threat, you will have to deal with about half the teenagers in the US, since going around being Moody and Full Of Angst is considered cool in current teen culture, and a lot of the teens are just faking it in order to be cool.
People forget how when you are teen being cool is often the most important thing there is. Understanding how little it really matters is a part of growing up.

This is what I meant about the GOP. Fox...the darling news source of the GOP... isn't addressing the source of the problem which is the violent, gun mentality in the US but wants to band-aid it with having guns protecting us from guns. It's insane.

They don't work when they aren't properly implemented. The 18 yr old who shot up the grocery store should have been red-flagged last year when he was held on a mental health evaluation when he wrote about wanting to commit a murder-suicide. But:

These idiots seem to have forgotten that an armed ex cop tried to take out a shooter recently. Problem is that the shooter had body armor. The security guard got off some shots and DIED ANYWAYS.

Arm teachers? **** you Texas.
