It's BS that matters. It's an official statement by the president. People ought to be outraged that he "ordered" businesses to stop production in China, whether or not the order has any teeth.

People would be outraged had Obama, W or any other recent president had officially made such an order. Yes, it's a tweet, but this administration has called such tweets official statements of the president.

We simply ignore the stunning overreach because, you know, it's just Trump.

No President has ever said anything close to this.
Yes, Trump has zero powers to enforce it, but dammit, no leader of a democracy should talk like that.

I expect Trump to talk of penalties on companies with connections in China.

The Dow is down 573 points perhaps on the news that Representative Seth Moulton, whoever that may be, has dropped out of the 2020 Presidential Race!

He seems to be gloating that he has the power to **** with the market.

Or something. That's the only half-thought I could wrest from this tweet.

The stock market has fallen precipitously in response to his statement. It obviously carries enough weight to have an impact on the corporate world.

I posit that such a thought is beyond his abilities.
At what point does Barr say "oops, my bad, I really meant to say Trump is guilty of collusion and needs to be removed immediately".

You say that because to the best of your knowledge the Constitution does not invest the president with the legal power to enforce his "order".

However, if any number of American countries actually do start withdrawing from China or even merely seriously exploring options for doing so in response to Trump's "order", then his authority exists as a practical matter of fact regardless of its constitutional enforceability.

Trump is apparently concerned enough about his tweets causing a stock market crash he has to tweet to say it isn't his fault.

This is Inception-level ********.

He may not have the authority to order businesses to do whatever he wants. He does have the ability to make everyone panic.

THIS.
Trump is creating chaos. CHaos means uncertiainty, and uncertainly is what the Stock Market hates above all else.

Trump Tweets

For many years China (and many other countries) has been taking advantage of the United States on Trade, Intellectual Property Theft, and much more. Our Country has been losing HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year to China, with no end in sight....

....Sadly, past Administrations have allowed China to get so far ahead of Fair and Balanced Trade that it has become a great burden to the American Taxpayer. As President, I can no longer allow this to happen! In the spirit of achieving Fair Trade, we must Balance this very....

...unfair Trading Relationship. China should not have put new Tariffs on 75 BILLION DOLLARS of United States product (politically motivated!). Starting on October 1st, the 250 BILLION DOLLARS of goods and products from China, currently being taxed at 25%, will be taxed at 30%..

...Additionally, the remaining 300 BILLION DOLLARS of goods and products from China, that was being taxed from September 1st at 10%, will now be taxed at 15%. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Just spoke with President @JairBolsonaro of Brazil. Our future Trade prospects are very exciting and our relationship is strong, perhaps stronger than ever before. I told him if the United States can help with the Amazon Rainforest fires, we stand ready to assist!

If Ruth Bader Ginsburg croaks, what are the chances of Democrats pulling off a MITCH with this and holding off any confirmation? Is there enough power in the Judiciary Committee? Can they demand endless investigations like with Kavanaugh?

Zero, because Democrats currently hold the House whereas nominations are handled purely by the Senate which the GOP controls.

Why not?

Just send them a C-141 full of rakes? If they can't find enough, I'm sure they could buy some off Finland.

I once again heard a commentary on the radio in which the response to allegations that Trump's behavior was anti-semitic and anti-democratic and whatnot was wrong because he's too stupid to understand what he's saying. I'm unconvinced that the two are mutually exclusive.

But what a time this is, when being too dumb to know what you're doing is seen as a step up.

Considering the fires are probably deliberately lit, there won't be any need for anyone to put the fires out. Indonesia is doing the same thing. Easiest way to clear jungle for farming.

I don't even want to think of what Trump is going to do at the G-7 meeting.
Would not be surprised if he pulls the US out.

But, aside from the immaturity of it, people don’t like the President making jokes about their investments dwindling. Nor do a lot of people like a draft-dodging coward making jokes about a Marine veteran who was awarded a Bronze Star for leadership under fire. Of course, the usual gang of douchebags who smeared John McCain and Robert Mueller and, hell, back to George McGovern, will no doubt lap it up and regurgitate it happily.

Looks like Trump will get a chance to weave his political magic again and nominate a judge for the Supreme Court that someone told him he should, and who will magically get approved by a compliant senate.

I predict that if the Dems get the White House and both houses of congress, we will see the Supreme court expanded by three or four seats...the FDR plan revived and this time it will pass.

Thank you to @DiamondandSilk for the really nice words and thoughts on @LouDobbs, tonight hosted by Lou’s friend, @DavidAsmanfox. Great job by all. P.S. Check out these two great women on tour tomorrow night in NYC at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Broadway. Have fun!

I hope so, we can't let this SCOTUS coup stand.

I wouldn't write Ginsburg off just yet, but it's worrisome and a sore spot.

Not to mention they are stuffing the lower courts as well as the SCOTUS

Hopefully we're getting honest judges but it's hard to say given they're all recommended by the extremist Federalist Society.

Privatize the profits and socialize the losses. It's the American way. That's how Mnuchin got rich. Worse, he did it on the backs of elderly people who had been conned into reverse mortgages. Mnuchin paid zero, took on the debt then taxpayers bailed him out.

ftfy.

Let's not write Ginsburg off just yet. She's had successfully treated cancer numerous times.
