I can't donate to the JREF
I tried to give 20 dollars to the JREF, but I kept getting "Gift amount is invalid" messages, even though I saw no minimum amount mentioned. Is this amount too small? If so, why is this (apparently) not mentioned anywhere?

Where are you trying to give? What link are you using?
I suspect it's not a forum issue, but a problem with the main randi site. |

This link: https://secure3.convio.net/jref/site...donation=form1
I just clicked on the "Donate to the JREF" button, which is visible on top of each forum page (as far as I know). |

The link appears to be the right one.

I think the place to ask is the "Contact Us" link - http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/...-the-jref.html
I don't think there is anything the forum mod-team can do, but I will report the thread just in case there is. |

It's a $50 minimum donation, but it's not mentioned anywhere.
I guess less than $50 is deemed uneconomic to process or some such reason. |

Ah ok, this would explain why I can't give $20. But there is really very little processing to do, and it can be done automatically nowadays. There are perhaps quite a few people who would be willing to give less (but not more) than $50. I have recently given $20 to another forum, there was no difficulty.
It would also be nice to give a few words of explanation (on the donation page). The impossibility of giving less than $50 might help explain why this forum is sometimes so slow, this could be due to financial reasons. |

It's an internet transaction (card not present) so the fees will be higher by default.
The industry norm is to carry out a risk assessment of a given site and set the transaction fees accordingly. Basically it is insurance against dodgy/stolen cards. |

Just to be clear, your donation will be going to the JREF. It is not going to the JREF forum (though obviously it is the JREF that pays for the forum).
ETA: Don't get me wrong, the JREF does some great things (I've donated many times in the past), but I don't want you under the misapprehension that you're contributing directly and solely to the forum. |
