Elisa Lam Documentary and Theories

I saw a link on Facebook to a Kickstarter for a documentary into the death of Elisa Lam (the girl that was found dead in the water tank atop the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles). For anyone unfamiliar, the death was eventually ruled accidental with people assuming Lam's mental health battles took a turn for the worst, resulting in her scaling the fire escape to the roof, somehow climbing to the top entry point of the water tower, jumping in and subsequently drowning with no way of escape. I still believe one of the hotel staff murdered her since the water tower lid was closed (she couldn't have closed it herself) and it hasn't been sufficiently clarified how Lam could make it to the top of the water tank without a ladder. Of course, Elisa Lam death conspiracies followed with some getting quite outlandish (the linked article describes some of the crazier theories like "invisible assassins" and dimensional portals(?)) but I can understand people being somewhat unhappy with the uneven results of the investigation. Curious about some of the other opinions here regarding this case.

She lived in a fleabag hotel. My guess is that someone took advantage of a woman who was clearly having some kind of mental breakdown, and killed her.

Did you watch the CCTV footage at that link? Unless someone's going for an "invisible assassin" type theory, I can't see how it points to anything other than mental breakdown.

That article isn't very well-written. It says, for example, at one point:

Quote:
The official report states that she drowned accidentally due to her bipolar disorder although no drugs or alcohol were found in her system...
Although no drugs or alcohol were found in her system? Is bipolar disorder a detectable drug in the blood now? I must have missed that class in college. And someone who is diagnosed bipolar NOT having any prescription drugs for such in her veins is actually more evidence FOR an episode being very likely.

Also, all the childish weed-related advertisements on that site are distracting and render what's left of the poor article even more difficult to take seriously. I'm a huge supporter of the ganj, personally, but stuff like that website make me ashamed to admit it sometimes.

IIRC the poor girl wasn't taking her meds, so really it's very likely that she suffered a psychotic break and drowned while in the grip of some sort of delusion.

The known events of Elisa Lam's death do have some odd parallels with the horror movie "Dark Water", which was released a few years before. Maybe pure coincidence, or, if she'd seen it, it's conceivable that the storyline of the movie informed her delusion. Either way, it's a strange and sad case that deserves better than sensationalistic conspiracy theories.
