Yep.
An attorney's job is to win the court case or, if that's just not possible, to ensure the least bad of all possible losing outcomes for their client, in terms of things like money, personal freedom, reputation and future potential opportunity, etc. They are utilitarian rational actors, usually. But their clients aren't always rational actors. People like Jones and a certain other famous person we can name, are perfectly willing to accept an objectively worse outcome if the acontextual fact that they refused to cooperate with the judicial process is met with cheers of approval from their audience. |

I'm reminded of Ye Olde Days when those guilty of obscene libel were locked in the stocks for the public to demonstrate their odium.

If the right to existence is conceded to new-born children, then they have the right; if it is not conceded to them, as was the case among the Spartans and ancient Romans, then they do not have it. For only society can give or concede it to them; they themselves cannot take it, or give it to themselves. |

Judge Rules Alex Jones in Contempt of Court
... for failing to show up to two full days of depositions, and has now fined him $50,000 per day for every day he fails to show up. Judge Barbara Bellis has set an April 15 deadline for him to show up for depositions.
https://www.courant.com/news/connect...t5q-story.html However, should Jones not comply with the April 15 deadline, Bellis said she would consider an order that would preclude Jones from presenting the jury any evidence in his favor, as well as instructing jurors that they should hold Jones’ refusal to be deposed against him. Finally, Bellis said she is inclined to order Jones to pay the victims’ lawyers $40,000 to cover costs associated with their trip to Texas last week for the deposition that did not take place. Keep digging Alex!! |

I honestly suspect it might be better for Jones to just default out of this thing. Maybe this is the price he's willing to pay to not have his business practices publicly examined. Or maybe it is just an ego thing. It must be hard to get nailed down to the truth after spending a lifetime peddling lies.
Either way he's going to play the martyr and his audience is going to lap it up. So long as he has his audience, he'll always find a way to make money. Alex Jones is already spinning his defaults as the courts refusing to let him speak. This kind of tactic definitely resonates with the conspiratorial right. It smacks of sov-cit tactics, refusing to participate in the system until finally the hammer comes down, then playing the victim. |

can't wait for the knowledge fight podcast episode. They've been covering the depositions of InfoWars employees in some detail, including an interview with the attorney taking the deposition. They've been quite entertaining. It's really odd to see these conspiracy peddlers be put into a situation where they aren't in control and can get nailed down to explain themselves rather than rapid firing nonsense.
One guy cried during the deposition. |
