Goody.
Twitter Has No Answers for #DiedSuddenly The latest anti-vaccine conspiracy theory is taking off easily on platforms that have no interest in shutting it down. Short version? A person dies suddenly and covid vaccines are blamed without any actual evidence. Rinse, repeat, amplify. Add that, well -

back to the Cleveland Clinic preprint on the bivalent booster
We have previously discussed this unpublished study here and in the Science sub-forum. MedPageToday cited a Tampa Bay Times article that covered DeSantis misstatement about it. DeSantis is not the only person guilty of twisting this study, but he is one of the more prominent people to do so.
"Nabin Shrestha, an infectious disease physician and one of the study’s authors, told PolitiFact that the data did not find a link between the bivalent shot and a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. The early conclusion was the opposite of what DeSantis said: The dose is, in fact, effective in preventing infection...“Those who were studied were health care workers: more likely to be exposed, more likely to be vaccinated as well,” [epidemiologist Rene] Najera told PolitiFact. “If the study is found to be sound through peer review, its findings would only be applicable to health care workers in large settings such as the Cleveland Clinic, not the general public.”" |

died suddenly and then replaced?
NBC reported, "Anti-vaccine activists who believe without evidence that a Covid vaccine caused Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest this month have pivoted to a new conspiracy theory to explain his swift recovery: that the Buffalo Bills safety has been replaced by a body double." I am not making this up.

Yeah, I saw the guy who made the Died Suddenly video posting pictures of Damar Hamlin saying the guy's comparing two pictures of his ear saying it looks different.
His Twitter feed is a slurry of reactionary politics and demands to hang public health officials at "Nuremburg 2.0". Truly a nasty PoS. |

That goes for all those of us who got vaccinated! We died and the chips in the vaccines make us think we're still alive, but it's a virtual reality, one in which even Damar Hamlin appears to be alive. In fact, that's how you know that you are living in the matrix: In the real world Hamlin's certifiably dead! So if you're an antivaxxer who can see Hamlin, it's not a body double. It's because one of the vaccinated sheeples has shed the vaccine on you, and you're in the matrix, too. |

If you use Reddit, you should check out r/Qult_Headquarters which details these idiots’ outpourings - there are frequent claims posted on there that Biden, Clinton, Obama, and many more have been executed and replaced with clones. Within seconds of Hamlin appearing at a recent Bills game there were claims that it wasn’t him, it was a clone.

If someone has the technology not only to clone people, but to clone them with all their talents and skills, where will it end?
A cycling team scooping the Tour de France because each day the team is replaced by their fresh and rested alternate clone team. An all-conquering tennis doubles team of the best doubles player in the world and their clone wearing a false beard and glasses. (She'd have got away with it if it hadn't been for the beard.) |

I hadn't heard about this movement until I saw this Danish article:
Vaccineskeptikere vil have egne blodbanker med 'rent blod' (TV2.dk, Jan 30, 2023) Vaccine skeptics want their own blood banks with 'pure blood' Do these blood banks storing only blood from and for the unvaccinated actually exist anywhere? |

I, on the other hand, will start an alternative business. Have a rich relative in the hospital that you want to send packing? Want to get ahead in the corporate rat race? Buy my guaranteed impure blood. I've been vaccinated against absolutely everything. Three boosters, all sorts of extra optional things, and even got a new polio shot after childhood Salk and Sabin both. I've been shot for tetanus so many times in the last 75 years my jaw is down to my navel. My blood is so full of nanobots and chemicals and rogue antibodies it glows in the dark and forages for its own lunch. I'm as full of death as a drugstore!
A little drop'll do ya. Send for the brochure now. |

One of the interesting aspects of the USA response was the relative difference in infection rates amongst those under 65 v over 65. Here in Calif., the infection rates were about half as much among elderly after about mid 2020 until Omicron. There was an initial surge at old age homes but after about mid 2020, that problem was mostly addressed. I suspect that the reason is that the elderly recognized they were more at risk and adjusted their behavior accordingly. I certainly did and I'm in that category.
A side effect is that the crude calculated IFR (percentage dying assuming an entire population gets infected) did not include this age infection skew. This resulted in understating IFR. |

My elderly parents weren't planning on getting vaccinated. My mother worked in the office of an anti-vaxxer chiropractor before she retired and got contaminated by his ideas (my brother and I were both fully vaccinated as children, but my mother is an intellectual weathervane). Then their neighbor, a man they've been friends with since before I was born, died of COVID-19. That changed their minds. |

So the usual suspects are having a field day since apparently a Department of Energy says there is “low confidence” that COVID originated from a lab leak in China. Of course the usually crowd is blaming Fauci, claiming vindication for every claim they ever made, etc.
I’m a bit confused as I wonder why this is the Department of Energy’s purview? |

It really isn't. Having contracted for Dept. of Energy and having held a security clearance there, I'm puzzled at this.
The counterintelligence part not so much. Dept. of Energy does pretty much everything in the U.S. that deals with nuclear weapons, so it really needs to protect that work from espionage. And a lot of its non-nuclear work has strategic advantage. That's why the department has a security and classification structure that's on par with everything else in government work and why their sites are some of the best guarded and protected anywhere in the world. The intelligence office, however, doesn't do any sort of general intelligence gathering. They're not the CIA or the NSA. They participate in the national intelligence community and report to the DNI because they have subject-matter expertise in energy and exotic weaponry, even beyond what the Dept. of Defense has. Dept. of Energy can direct national intelligence efforts toward getting information about foreign energy prospects and nuclear capabilities, and in turn interprets that information in the best way to inform national policy. It follows that they will be privy to intelligence estimates in other areas. But the notion that the Dept. of Energy has anything to do with public health or pandemics or gathering intelligence of that ilk is frankly wrong. My guess is that this was an intelligence estimate provided by another national intelligence service that somehow found its way into a Dept. of Energy report. |

Hence my immediate suspicion that politics is likely involved here, given how out of place it is. The specifics, of course, I obviously hesitate to say with any certainty, but I'd be utterly unsurprised if it was a ploy to pander to the Republicans in the House when it comes to budget allocations, for example.

The WSJ DoE story sounds like a conversation at a cocktail party, turned into a headline. If anything, this is an illustration of just how bad the news media has become with basic fact-checking.

I see from the comments that one person who has been assailed by the side effects of ivermectin wonders if they were caused by a tapeworm, and announced that she'll keep on taking ivermectin as a remedy for the ivermectin, and another says: "“No one can convince me that he died because of ivermectin,” one member wrote this week. “He ultimately died because of our failed western medicine which only cares about profits and not the cure.” The cure for what? Ivermectin overdose? Hopeless!

Andrew Bridgen MP, who has already had the whip withdrawn by the Conservative Party, stood up in Parliament on Friday to repeat a lot of conspiracy theories. The chamber emptied, in protest, I suspect, which has been taken as a sign that he was being silenced by big Pharma. I haven't seen a rebuttal of the points he made in the video (and I don't have the time or patience to go through it), but there was one back in January (and I'm guessing he doesn't have new figures).

This is one of the sources of Bridgen's claims - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9428332/
It seems to be saying that the risks of the vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) were higher than not having them.

I'm not sure, but I suspect it comes down to what an AESI *is*. It does not include all adverse effects of having COVID. The "SI" part points to a specific effect from the vaccine that can also show up with the disease albeit less frequently. This does not make the vaccines less safe than the disease. It seems like playing with statistics.
I could be completely wrong here. |

At the risk of playing the man, note the name of the last author - Peter Doshi.
SBM, especially Gorski, and Gorski's Orac-ian guise have given Doshi's "ideas" around vaccination and Covid a thorough kicking in the last couple of years. Also, this one is kinda covereded in one of the Full Fact links, i.e. we are into correlation does not necessarily equal causation land. Not to mention there is a distinct feel of catch-all and fishing trip about it, with any sort of unrelated condition being thrown into the mix, from psychosis to abcesses, in the apparent hope that something sticks. Pretty standard "Oh noes, I'm NOT anti-vax, just pro safe vax!" stuff, as seen for years. |
