Here's a picture of Turkiey's proxy militia "Syrian National Army" allegedly from this morning in Ras Al-Ayn which the Turkish military claims has been "liberated" (to the denial of the SDF). Click to enlarge. Imagine these guys coming to your town.

Must be quite a strange culture to grow up in.

Given their treatment over the years its amazing the Kurds haven't become 'death to the west' fanatics. Saudis behead a US based journalist and the reaction amounts to 'oh well', Kurds help the US crush IS and its 'yeah sorry for some unspecified reason we have to let Turkey brutally attack you'.

Turkey bombs Ain Issa causing mass panic in refugee camp with scores fleeing, including 700 ISIS family members. US forces flee the town as well, joining 130,000 people so far on the run.

Merkel has demanded in a phone call today that Erdogan stops immediately. The answer is not reported.

Turkey-Syria offensive: US 'to evacuate 1,000 troops' as Turkey advances

Quote:
The US is pulling out all of its troops from northern Syria as Turkey advances its operation against the Kurds.

Defence Secretary Mark Esper said Turkey "likely intends" to extend its attack further than originally planned.

The assault is aimed at forcing out Kurdish forces - the main US ally in the area. They may be seeking help from Syria and Russia, said Mr Esper, and the US would not be defending them.

Syria has now announced it is sending troops north to face Turkish forces.

trump stabs the Kurds in the back and they have to look to Russia for help, well that finally explains Trump's actions.

US forces are having to pull out to avoid being trapped between the Turks and Syrian forces.

It must be part of Trump's master plan though, he knows more about it than the generals after all.

New Withdrawal by Trump just flies in the face of hisSenate GOP critics who are urging him to reverse courses.
Not a smart move when he needs them now more then ever.

And , yeah, he just made Syria a Russian Puppet.

Do you think that Turkey would have advanced on the Kurds if Trump hadn't made a big deal out of pulling out the U.S. troops?

I don't.

Then Trump goes and pulls out the rest of them because the Turks are uncomfortably close.

Erdogan wouldn't be advancing if Trump wasn't retreating.

He's always gonna be willing to smash some Kurds (Turks never saw a genocide they didn't like) as long as it didn't cost him too much, but if it came to risking a shooting war with the U.S. he'd back off.

He just doesn't believe he's risking that.

Thanks. Trump.

Only one army is advancing, only then because those U.S. troops have been ordered to abandon our (former) allies.

The other army is discovering what a worthless ally the U.S. can be. It's days like this that I feel ashamed to be an American.

I think the US have been caught flat footed. Turkey has duped them.
Mark Esper said Turkey "likely intends" to extend its attack further than originally planned.

Of course it was originally planned, he just lied to Trump about it.

Syria was already a Russian puppet.

But the SDF, the Syrian Democratic Forces, of which the Kurds are a majority, are secular, pretty progressive for the region and very pro-Western.

Well, until now. There are reports of them having been in talk with the Syrian government and that they have agreed to send troops to fight Turkey.

So pretty much the only good thing in the region, the SDF, are being slaughtered and have been pushed to ally themselves with Assad the Butcher.

Meanwhile, there are more and more reports of IS members escaping captivity and increasing their attacks on SDF forces.

All this on the whim of President Trump.

Americans should be ashamed of their country's action. It will be a long time until they are trusted again.

And for all the tough talk he gave Turkey initially, you just know he's not going to do anything significant about it.

It's strange how all these dictators and strongmen are always able to get exactly what they want from Trump.

Kurds are intelligent enough to know the West isn't out to get them. They're intelligent enough to know that even though the West left them out to dry several times over they were actually repressed and suppressed by Turks and Arabs.

Screaming "death to the West" while being slaughtered by Arabs or Turks ... isn't productive, to say the least. Or intelligent, or even sane for that matter. Some other groups in the region might want to take notice.

Kurds know they have no better friend than the West. That friend may be ****** and leave them to their devices far too often, but it's the best they've got.

I doubt it. Assad and Erdogan both wish for Endlösung der Kurdfrage and not all that secretly either. It's just that at this point the best they can do is suppress any notion of Kurdish independence and cram them back under Syria. Promise autonomy and renegade on the promise once the country is strong enough to deal with them once more. When things get too hot blame all downsides on Sykes and Picot, who should've drawn borders differently and used ethnic borders in the region.

You know, the same old story of the past 70+ years? The one you need to be either ignorant to the point of a medical emergency or else a paid shill to believe in? If I recall correctly you avidly help them do so from time to time.

Since Turkey is at war, Erdogan has made it a criminal offence to criticize the authorities.

No wonder Trump admires the guy.

I'm confident that the US media will grow tired of this story in a few days and that the GOP will go back to singing President Trump's praises and any criticism of his actions over his treatment of the Kurds will be quietly forgotten.
