Dumb and Dumber

There are two candidates for the chairmanship of the House Energy and Commerce committee: John Shimkus and Joe Barton.

Joe Barton: he's the representative that appologized to BP for the fact that the government wanted BP to set up a fund to pay for the spill clean up.

John Shimkus: He doesn't believe in global warming because God will decide when the earth will end, and God promised that he wouldn't destroy the world with bad weather again after Noah's flood.

This should be fun not

I just googled John Shimkus, and the OP does not exaggerate.

What a frightening human being.

This is the GOP showing that it will not compromise. They will not address climate change, but to say that it's not real. They don't care about the environment or our dependence on oil.

Right. Like when Barton claimed he "baffled" Stephen Chu:

You call that a step up? Do you agree with Barton that plate tectonics are a liberal myth?

Wow. That's so much like Christine O'Donnell's "separation of church and state" debacle. The smug anti-intellectualism Barton exudes is staggering.

Holy Crap, Batman!

"it just drifted?"

There are first graders who understand plate tectonics better than that idiot.

Barton and his ilk make me wish there was a test of scientific knowledge involved with holding federal offices.

You've got to be *********** kidding me.

Why do we even need this committee to begin with? Sounds like a good way to promote corporatism.

The Charimansip of the commitee may go to Fred Upton. AFAIK Upton has not said anything stupid like Barton or Shimkus.

There is, however this little skeleton:

Shimkus tries to make it seem like scientists are claiming that all life on earth will be destroyed. If glaciers melt and ocean levels rise a few hundred feet, life will go on. But it won't be pleasant for those whose cities will be inundated.

There seriously needs to be a shill/tool/pawn of the nuclear industry on that list.

That would at least give a viable alternative to fossil fuels.
