Here's another example of that Southern 'respect' for women I hear so much about:

Quote:
Rep. Joyce Beatty, an Ohio Democrat, said one of her Republican colleagues, Rep. Hal Rogers, poked her and told her to "kiss my ass" when she asked him to wear a mask as the two rode a train in the Capitol complex.

"I respectfully asked my colleague @RepHalRogers to put on a mask while boarding the train," Beatty wrote on Twitter, adding the incident took place when the two were headed to the House floor for votes. "He then poked my back, demanding I get on the train. When I asked him not to touch me, he responded, 'kiss my ass.'"
Quote:
A representative for Rogers, who is the second-most senior Republican in the House, did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Beatty added that Rogers, who is 84, should "grow up" and apologize to her. Later Tuesday evening, Rogers said that he later met with Beatty and apologized to her.

Next up, vying for dumbest tweet, is Thomas Massie (R-KY), a member of Congress:

Quote:
“Over 70% of Americans who died with COVID, died on Medicare, and some people want #MedicareForAll?” Massie wrote.
Reuben Gallego (D-AZ) responded:

Quote:
“Because Covid severely impacted the elderly and the elderly are on Medicare,” Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) tweeted in response to Massie. “If you paid someone to come up with this tweet fire them. If you came up with this tweet you should hang your head in shame.”

What was his point? We can't let people who need health care to have health care because they might actually use it?

We all know you think government actually shouldn't do anything, bro, but you're not supposed to say that part out loud.

I think the idea is that if the government simply must provide health care, it should provide health care only for very healthy people. That keeps costs down and results up. Win-win!

Yeah, it's probably awkward for anyone who's actually really sick. Do really sick people vote?

I presume the point was to point out that he is an idiot who cannot think. In other words an electable Republican.

It's cool, you can do that now. Anyone who'd get upset is already upset at other members of your party planning coups and assassinations, just saying "**** the poor" won't turn a head these days.

His point was to scare people about Medicare for All. As if it causes death from COVID.

Perfect distillation of the GOP:

Quote:
A Kansas Republican Representative who said he doesn’t trust the COVID-19 vaccine a few months ago has been missing all session. He’s now been brought into the Statehouse sick & on oxygen so that he can help override the Congressional Redistricting veto.

Anti-vax GOP Kansas state rep half-dead from covid gets wheeled out on oxygen to cast a needed vote to override a governor veto to go forward with a Gerrymandered congressional map.

The claim was trying to be that medicare is horrible substandard health care and people should be protected from being on it as it is so bad it kills people.

To be fair, we don't know what sorts of images Ted Cruz might consider explicitly erotic.

Of course, because it's a complete lie, but that doesn't matter to those on the right. You simply repeat the lie until enough people believe it. It's a well-used tactic that pays dividends time and time again.

Indeed, a complete lie without any supporting evidence is un-refutable because there's nothing to argue against.

A lie is especially effective when the audience is already receptive to its message.

Ted Cruz is a disgusting POS. The fact he got re-elected is just another reason I could never live in Texas.

Didn’t quarky get banned for posting a much less offensive picture?

Exactly what can you see in that picture that is offensive? All you can see is the side of a fat gut and a bare thigh and leg. You can see worse than that at the beach. But I should have put it in a spoiler.

I don't know why the b-word would be bandied about. Offensive? I agree with Stacy, it's an image of a very overweight woman shopping at Walmart. I wasn't 'offended' so much as baffled as to how she could feel comfortable going out shopping the way she's dressed.

It reminds me of the guy on the subway train in a Seinfeld episode. The portly fellow who strips down to his briefs -- I think the train's a/c had failed -- and announces, "I'm not ashamed of my body."

(Jerry looks over and deadpans, "You should be.")

It was a joke. The banning of quarky was built up over time and a nude photo was the straw that broke the camels back. It was less jarring than this photo, but neither were offensive.

I should know better than to joke about banning. My apologies.

Sen. Rick Scott (R, FL) has issued his own GOP agenda:

Quote:
1. Our kids will say the pledge of allegiance, salute the Flag, learn that America is a great country, and choose the school that best fits them. Public schools will focus on the 3 R’s, not indoctrinate children with critical race theory or any other political ideology.
But we don't want to indoctrinate our children with any political ideology, right? Just be made to proclaim how great America is, swear "under God", and don't learn how racism has shaped and affected this country.

Quote:
2. Government will never again ask American citizens to disclose their race, ethnicity, or skin color on any government forms
We can't have it being used for nefarious purposes like these:

"Information on race is required for many Federal programs and is critical in making policy decisions, particularly for civil rights. States use these data to meet legislative redistricting principles. Race data also are used to promote equal employment opportunities and to assess racial disparities in health and environmental risks."
Quote:
3. The soft-on-crime days of coddling criminal behavior will end. We will re-fund and respect the police because they, not the criminals, are the good guys. We will enforce our laws, all of them, and increase penalties for theft and violent crime. We will clean up our cities and stop pretending that crime is OK. We have zero-tolerance for “mostly peaceful
protests” that attack police officers, loot businesses, and burn down our cities.
IOW: We can't have "good guys" like Derek Chauvin, Aaron Russell, Eric J. DeValkenaere, Joshua Taylor and Brandon Dingman, Andrew Delke, William Darby, Michael Slager , Aaron Cody Smith, et al....all convicted of killing someone unlawfully.

He's obviously referring to the BLM protests of last year but he opposes the Jan. 6 Committee investigating that "protest".

Quote:
4. We will secure our border, finish building the wall, and name it after President Donald Trump.

Quote:
5. We will grow America’s economy, starve Washington’s economy, and stop Socialism. Socialism is un-American and always leads to poverty and oppression. We will stop it.
Tell that to Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Norway, Germany, and France, and the Iceland. The US poverty rate is 17.8% .
Sweden: 17.10%, Denmark 12.6%, Canada 11.6%, Norway 12.7%, Germany 14.8%, France 13.6%, Iceland 8.8%.

Quote:
6. We will eliminate all federal programs that can be done locally, and enact term limits for federal bureaucrats and Congress.
He finally got something right!

Quote:
7. We will protect the integrity of American Democracy and stop left-wing efforts to rig elections. Today’s Democrat Party is trying to rig elections and pack the courts because they have given up on Democracy. They don’t believe they can win based on their ideas, so they want to game the system and legalize voter fraud to stay in power. In true Orwellian fashion, Democrats refer to their election rigging plans as “voting rights”. We won’t allow the radical left to destroy our democracy by institutionalizing dishonesty and fraud
.

Need I really point out the irony of the above?

Quote:
8.We will protect, defend, and promote the American Family at all costs. The nuclear family is crucial to civilization, it is God’s design for humanity, and it must be protected and celebrated. To say otherwise is to deny science. The fanatical left seeks to devalue and redefine the traditional family, as they undermine parents and attempt to replace them with government programs. We will not allow Socialism to place the needs of the state ahead of the family.
Note how he declares the nuclear family is "God's design" and then proceeds to say that 'to say otherwise is denying science'. Since when is science based on religion beliefs? This is nothing more than an bigoted attack on non-heterosexuals. And what does socialism have to do with defining 'family'?

Quote:
9.Men are men, women are women, and unborn babies are babies. We believe in science: Men and women are biologically different, “male and female He created them.” Modern technology has confirmed that abortion takes a human life. Facts are facts,
the earth is round, the sun is hot, there are two genders, and abortion stops a beating heart. To say otherwise is to deny science
Again with the 'science' based on religion. Has anyone denied that a zygote is 'human'? What does he think pro-choice people believe? That a zygote is another species? It's "person", not "human" that is in question. There are two 'sexes', not 'genders'. For someone who says he believes in science, maybe he should learn what is science and what is belief.

Quote:
10. Americans will be free to welcome God into all aspects of our lives, and we will stop all government efforts to deny our religious freedom and freedom of speech. The Democrat Party and their Big Tech allies are not merely secular; they have virtually created a new religion of wokeness that is increasingly hostile toward people of faith, particularly Christians and Jews. They are determined to drive all mention of God out of public view. We will not be silenced, canceled, or told what words to use by the politically correct crowd.
Ah, yes...the good old "Christian victimization" claim. What? No "War on Christmas" claims? Please stop picking on us Christians!

Note the bolded part after just telling us that schoolchildren should be forced to say the Oath of Allegiance every day and that no mention of race or ethnicity can be asked by the government. And which party is having conniption fits over CRT (which isn't even taught in schools)?

Quote:
11. We are Americans, not globalists. America will be dependent on NO other country. We will conduct no trade that takes away jobs or displaces American workers. Countries who oppose us at the UN will get zero financial help from us. We will be energy independent and build supply chains that never rely on our adversaries. We will only help countries that are willing to defend themselves, like Israel
So globalists aren't American? Since when? Nothing like good old fashioned isolationism. Sounds like N. Korea. This guy lives in La La Land if he thinks most of the above is possible.

Scott is the perfect example of what is wrong with today's GOP.

You gotta love the fact that he contradicts himself in #1. Good sign that he isn't serious.

It's not the last time he contradicts himself.

Under #5 of his agenda he writes "All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even if a small amount. Currently over half of Americans pay no income tax."

Yet:

Quote:
But when Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Scott on Tuesday night about his tax proposal, the former Florida governor simply denied that it exists. Noting the criticism of Scott’s proposal to raise taxes on half the country, Hannity asked, “Did you have that in your plan?”

“Of course not, oh no,” Scott said. “[Senate Majority Leader Sen.] Chuck Schumer, who wants to raise taxes for everything, while I’ve cut — when I was governor I cut taxes and fees 100 times. We’re the opposite.”

Scott, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, is right that half the country pays no income tax; it’s something that Republicans occasionally griped about during Barack Obama’s presidency.
Trump is among those who paid no Federal taxes for 10 of the past 15 years.

Quote:
People whose incomes are so low that they don’t owe federal taxes are not required to file returns with the IRS. Under Scott’s proposal ― which would also slash the federal workforce by 25% ― the IRS would have to track down millions of non-earners to determine whether they were able-bodied.
So people who have very low incomes need to pay income taxes. People like retirees often living on SS alone and not even able to buy medicine or food, the unemployed, etc. But let's CUT taxes for the richest people in the country! Yep...great idea, moron.

Rick Scott's program is so insane that he most other GOPers are backing away from it.
That is pretty crazy.

He's trying to appeal to Trumpers. Insanity is a plus for them.

"GOP agenda"?
The snippets read almost like a run-up to a Florida secession move.

.

I'm a tad sensitive to such, being in the path of two of them... the decades old Jefferson movement at the coastal CA/OR border; and this new Greater Idaho insanity (had an actual Oregon state vote on the concept and everything .. it was quite popular) that would transfer most all of conservative rural Oregon (and IIRC the NE corner of Cali) to Idaho proper, leaving mostly just the NW progressive corner as Oregon.
