The idea we should let Covid run rampant to acheive Herd Immunity "Naturally" seems to be growing fast among the Anti Vaxers.

Tom Brokaw wrote a book called The Greatest Generation which is about my parent's generation. The men and women who fought and lived through the trials and tribulations of WW2. How Americans from the big cities and small towns came together and sacrificed to make the world and America a better place.

I can't help but think the generation to follow (my generation) is the worst. Every opportunity and advantage. And yet it is the most selfish, and most awful. The biggest prima donnas snowflakes unwilling to sacrifice anything for a better tomorrow.

The attraction of the principles behind Karma is quite real, and news organizations are quite aware of that.

With that said, I have little doubt that anti-vaxxers would love those stories. I seem to recall hearing a few "X was excited to get a Y vaccine, then died right after" in the past, either way.

Yeah, we've been directed to the site the anti-vaxxers love that records any death after someone gets a vaccine whether the vaccine had anything to do with the death or not. Now, someone CAN die from a vaccine if they go into anaphylactic shock and there's no adrenaline, IV antihistamines, and oxygen to counteract it but that's very rare. I had someone send me to it as proof of all the people who died after a vaccine and every single one of them had a cause of death other than the vaccine.

I saw a screenshot of the VAERS site in which someone entered in the side effects box "I got the vaccine and now people on Facebook believe anything I type in this box."

The Surprisingly Strong Supreme Court Precedent Supporting Vaccine Mandates

Quote:
The year was 1904, and when his politically charged legal challenge to the $5 fine for failing to get vaccinated made its way to the Supreme Court, the justices had a surprise for Rev. Jacobson. One man’s liberty, they declared in a 7-2 ruling handed down the following February, cannot deprive his neighbors of their own liberty — in this case by allowing the spread of disease. Jacobson, they ruled, must abide by the order of the Cambridge board of health or pay the penalty.

https://www.politico.com/
I would hope that the supreme court of the U.S. would respect precedent and rule that Vaccine mandates are allowable.

But, in this day and age (with the court filled with partisan hacks like Drunky McRapeface and the Stepford Wife), I think there are valid reasons to worry.

Remember, this is the court that basically allowed a Texas anti-abortion law to stand (despite Roe v. Wade having been confirmed.) Granted, they haven't yet ruled on the full constitutionality, but even if they do decide later to overturn the law, allowing it to go into effect even for a short time is... problematic. So ignoring precedent seems to be something this court will be willing to do.

And remember, just a few months ago the Supreme court at least partly sided with churches that wanted to hold religious gatherings, despite covid restrictions. So when they are faced with public health measures vs. "Mah Freedum!", they are quite willing to side with the nutcases.

According to Worldometer yesterday, California had 103 Covid deaths, Texas had 318, Georgia 108, and Florida reported 3.

Can someone explain to me how DeSantis is cooking the books?

I might remember incorrectly, but I thought that Florida switched to adding the deaths at the confirmed death date. Given the time it frequently takes to get the paperwork processed, I'm a little more surprised that there would even be 3 recorded for yesterday. It's not a bad thing for later accuracy checking, but the political reasoning that's fairly certainly behind the switch is hard to ignore.

According to the New York Times, the 7 day average is 300+ a day but the daily figures are very "lumpy" - 0 one day, over a thousand another.

To put that number in context. The UK is doing a horrible job at containing the n'th wave of Covid but we have been pretty good at vaccination. Our rolling average death count is about a third of Florida's for a population three times the size. IOW, Florida's per capita rate is currently 9 times that of the UK and approximately the same as the UK's was at our worst - before the vaccine existed.

Well done DeSantis in managing to "outperform" plague island at its worst despite having all the tools at your disposal to protect your residents.

There's a conspiracy theory doing the rounds in Europe that Lidl (a large international discount grocery chain) will require all potential customers to scan their EU standard QR coded vaccine certifications to gain entry. Lidi have denied this but several people I mentioned this to think it's an excellent idea.

Covid and Spanish flu compared.
https://theconversation.com/compare-...diction-138895

Quote:
As states loosen nonpharmaceutical interventions, the U.S. will likely experience a long plateau of continued new infections at a steady rate, punctuated by periodic local flares. These outbreaks will not be driven by SARS-CoV-2 mutation or virulence, but by the further exposure of nonimmune people to the virus. Future spikes in COVID-19 cases and deaths will very likely be driven by what people do.
there were some attempts to control the 1918 pandemic, and a few cities did very well. yet, both seem to last 3 years. Flu likely mutated to the less lethal version in the end, because it mutates faster than covid.

Mississippi is overcoming a lot of hurdles to claw their way to the top of the charts for covid death rate. Sure, more densely populated states like New Jersey or New York have strong advantages in the contest to be #1, but Mississippi brings their unique gumption and will to succeed that cannot be denied.

A real life tortoise and the hare contest, with New York giving up its big 2020 lead by making the rookie mistake of vaccinating their population. Mississippi's come from way behind is a true underdog story, capitalizing on the opportunity for a late break with Delta. A masterful play that will make the scrappy state the stuff of legends.

Quote:
Mississippi has now surpassed the state of New York, the nation’s original pandemic hotspot, in total COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 residents. The only state where the pandemic has proven deadlier than the Magnolia State is New Jersey. Mississippi displaced New York this month, with the New York Times reporting the news on Friday—a day after Gov. Tate Reeves told a Tennessee audience that southerners are “a little less scared” of COVID-19 due to their religious faith.

New York had led the nation in COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 until New Jersey overtook it for the top spot in June 2020; the Empire State remained second until this month when Mississippi bumped it down to third.

That must be what protecting those Revolutionary War airports was all about.

By today's Worldometers figures, Mississippi has passed New Jersey to claim first place; Louisiana has passed New York to claim third; and Arizona has passed Rhode Island to claim sixth. Alabama is moving up fast toward Rhode Island on the inside lane. Massachusetts's fifth place position does not look secure either.

Mississippi and New Jersey are the only U.S. states so far with reported death rates of over 3,000 per million people. Only four countries have reported rates over 3,000: Peru, Hungary, Bosnia-Herzogovinia, and North Macedonia.

I never paid any attention to Minaj before she revealed what a liar and fool she is. She was NOT suspended by Twitter as Twitter announced and she was NOT invited to the WH; she was offered a telephone call with a doctor.

On the bright side, the state's headline writers have it pretty easy with "Mississippi Delta Blues" puns all over the place.

I thought it looked ridiculously low. I think it is reported periodically.

The Hillsborough County Republican Party in Florida, known for its anti-vaccine & anti-mask stances, can’t access its financial data because the only guy who knew how to use the party’s campaign finance software just died from COVID-19.

Early in this pandemic, I mentioned that AIDS / HIV tended to kill all of the denialist conspiracy theorists. Obviously, it won't be the same proportion, but the Delta variant is making progress on that front.

Can't say he isn't somewhat deserving of it though...

He's wrong and if he's a "Constitutional scholar," I'm a Nobel Laureate. He's a college dropout who received almost straight "Ds" from a school that isn't really even accredited. Patrick Henry college.

Cawthorn is a disgusting POS. The more I know about him, the more apparent that becomes.
