The site doesn't make it a secret that they are left-wing and the article is good. Besides, the attitude of the left-wing party in the Swedish parliament so far has been to back up the government and Tegnells strategy.

Finland's numbers don't look good, but they are nowhere near as bad as Sweden's - or Denmark's at their worst during the second wave in December and January

Wednesday:
Coronavirus - countries (Worldometers, March 10, 2021)
Deaths per million (Total deaths) New cases Serious/Critical
Sweden: 1,290 (13,088) 5,917* 222 *according to SVT.se
Denmark: 410 (2,382) 602* 43 *of 134,448 tests (0.39%) (See below); Fully vacc. 217,470 (3.73% of pop.), 1st dose only: 560,656 (9.60%).
Finland: 140 (776) 779 40
Norway: 116 (632) 685 20
Iceland: 85 (29) 2 1 – No new cases yesterday, authorities remain alert
Iceland has 17 active cases, Faroe Islands 2, New Zealand 85
The Faroe Islands have 3 in quarantine, 0 hospitalized.

*The Danish number of new cases is a little crazy today. Worldometers says 2,007, but that is because the result of more than 1,128,502 quicktests from private testers for more than a month were made public. From now on, they will be included in the official daily number. The percentage of positives based on the 1,128,502 quick tests was 0.18)

Why doesn't anybody tell them why there are so many outbreaks in Swedish schools?! I have already apologized for keeping them in the dark.

Danish DR2 announced a new mini series comparing the Danish and the Swedish pandemic strategies. It is in Danish and Swedish with Danish subtitles. An interesting quotation from Anders Tegnell.

Quote:
- You should not introduce measures too soon, because then they are potentially harmful. You lose credibility if you start too early. It is a question of when it is right to do it. I am most worried about acting prematurely. Then it is less effective.
Annika og det svenske coronamysterium

I really, really don't think Tegnell needs to fear that anybody will accuse him of having acted too soon!

Linus decided to wear a face mask when he returned to classes at the British International School Stockholm (BISS) in Danderyd, outside Stockholm, on Monday. The school teaches around 550 children aged 3-17, according to its website.

“I decided to wear a mask to school. The first lesson [goes] fine with it on. But then in the beginning of lesson two, the teacher asks me to take my mask off, and I of course say that I didn’t want to because of the coronavirus,” he wrote in an email, forwarded to The Local.

Linus said he was then made to wait isolated in a room for three hours before his mother, Sarah Jefford, a wine educator who grew up in Switzerland, was able to pick him up.

At least they made sure that he was isolated ...

Jug-ears had it nearly a year ago, and travelled with his similarly infected retainers to the Highlands at a time when people were forbidden from going to holiday homes and supposed to be staying put. He wasn't going to mix with the unwashed natives, but his hangers-on were seen in the local Co-op.

The king has memorial church service for the victims of Covid-19 (SVT.se, March 11, 2021) - With the royal family presents, but without the prince and princess, of course. It was not a mass event. (No pun intended.)

Earlier in the day, Tegnell was more concerned about image problems:
Quote:
Tegnell is asked what the worst result of the Swedish strategy is?

Tegnell: The worst part is that Sweden has been labelled as the country without any restrictions.

Not the deaths. Not the 10 dead kids. Not the longcovid. Not the unemployement. Only Sverigebilden matters.

Does he think, seriously, right now, there is a more common disease than covid?

In other news, case numbers in Scotland are looking as if they're rising again and our brainess First Minister is going to go right ahead with easing restrictions anyway. This is after saying her aim was to eliminate the virus, and that she'd proceed very slowly and cautiously, going by the case numbers and not by arbitrary dates. Meh.

Denmark is also planning to reopen major parts of society again in two weeks: Regeringen vil åbne samfundet: Mette Frederiksen varsler stor genåbningsplan om to uger (DR.dk, March 10, 2021) I hope that the TeTrIs strategy, along with vaccinations and rising temperatures, is working so effectively by now that they can keep the contagion in check.

Friday:
Coronavirus - countries (Worldometers, March 12, 2021)
Deaths per million (Total deaths) New cases Serious/Critical
Sweden: 1,296 (13,146) 5,335* 233 *according to SVT.se
Denmark: 411 (2,387) 645* 38 *of 232,659 tests (0.28%); Fully vacc. 232,566 (3.98% of pop.), 1st dose only: 576,897 (9.88%).
Finland: 142 (786) 706 47
Norway: 117 (639) 905 21
Iceland: 85 (29) 2 1 – No new domestic cases, two in border testing
Iceland has 20 active cases, Faroe Islands 2, New Zealand 88
The Faroe Islands have 3 in quarantine, 0 hospitalized.

As I mentioned recently, quicktests are now included in the official Danish numbers even though they may include false positives: Falske testresultater tælles nu med i smittetallene - med vilje (DR.dk, March 12, 2021)

We let some children back into school in early March, and our case numbers are going up again. And our idiot First Minister is going to go on opening up, and letting more children return to school, like there was no problem.

Any measures against virus transmission? Face masks, distancing, ventilation, dividing children and teachers into 'bubbles'?
We have several pandemic rules and regulations for schools, but there are reports about schools locking down temporarily several times a week.

Deutsche Welle has made many excellent programs about the pandemic and even some about Sweden's pandemic strategy. This time, however ...
[quote]
Quote:
Sweden has both mandatory and voluntary covid restrictions. Residents who can, are asked to stay home. There's a ban on serving alcohol in the evening. Masks are only recommended during rush hour. There have been more than 12,000 Covid-19 deaths in a population of just ten million. This has left some doubtful. When Gösta Andersson fell ill, doctors refused to give him intensive medical care. But after pressure from his daughter Ulrika, he received treatment.
The Swedish model for fighting COVID-19 (DW on Youtube, March 10, 2021 - 12 min. long)

I AGREE

First they present a couple of young people from other European countries who have gone to Sweden explicitly because of its lax pandemic strategy, sleeping in 8-bed rooms with no windows, and then, after showing one example of an octogenarian who was fist denied treatment and only got it (and survived!) because his family was very persistent, they let a fan of the Swedish strategy, Marie Holmqvist, present Swedish triage of Covid-19 patients as something rational as if it didn't in many case take place long-distance with old patients at nursing homes receiving palliative care (opiates) instead of treatment.

If you can stand watching it till the very end (last 20 seconds or so), it mentions that TeTrIs, face masks and targeted hard lockdowns work, after we have been told that the low number of cases and fatalities in Asia as compared to Europe and North America may be due to genetics, which really, really, really wouldn't explain Australia and New Zealand at all!

This Tweet seems to indicate that the spread of Sweden's herd infection strategy may have reached as far as Brazil:

Quote:
The timeline of the "Sweden Herd Immunity strategy", in two acts.

1) "Herd immunity" from Sweden to Brazil:
-> Tegnell -> Osmar Terra -> Jair Bolsonaro ->

2) Brazil's payback:
-> 60MM+ "herd infection" -> mutations -> P.1/P.2/N.9 ->

You're welcome!

I knew that Tegnell had advised BJ and that Giesecke had attempted to advise epidemiologists in Ireland but didn't succeed. I had also seen rumors that Tegnell was the inspiration for the pandemic strategies in Poland and the Czech Republic. And then, of course, there was Scott Atlas in the USA. I remember reports saying that Bolsonaro had the same strategy as Sweden, but I don't remember hearing that he was inspired by the Swedish strategy and Tegnell.

ETA: Last week, Brazil overtook Sweden in Covid-19 deaths per million on Worldometers:
Brazil: 1,309
Sweden: 1,296

The infection is increasing significantly among children - two regions are particularly hard hit.

There is little doubt that the reason is the reopening of schools for young children. School children are supposed to get tested twice a week, and teachers have been asked to get tested frequently, too.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Björn Olsen was one of the most prominent critics of the Swedish strategy.
Today he tells Expressen about two things he was wrong about.
The first one is face masks. He didn't come around until he saw what was happening in other countries when the second wave started.
I think the other one is herd immunity, but the rest is behind a paywall.
Björn Olsen criticized the herd-infection strategy from the very beginning, but in early October he still thought that Sweden might have already had so many infections that herd immunity would help minimize the number of new infections in the fall. Like the herd-infection fans, he had been fooled by Sweden's lack of testing during the first wave, which made the number of actual infections pure guesswork.

Don't forget their mutations.

Problem is, Tegnell is not a virologist. Seems blind as to how viruses spread. In addition, he thinks the weak and the old are acceptable collatoral to keep the economy buoyant.

Since Scotland is now on 1,378, I feel your pain. (Britain as a whole is on 1,843 according to your link, and I dread to think where England would be if it was counted separately.) There are a few countries higher, Czechia and Belgium for example, but not many. (Interestingly I see Gibraltar and San Marino look exceptionally bad, but I suppose that's a feature of population density and not having a rural hinterland where the infection hasn't taken hold quite so badly to dilute the effect on the urban population.)

Since I don't live in Sweden or Brazil, it's not exactly my pain.
The population density of Gibraltar is extreme: 3,369 per Km2.
The population density of San Marino is higher than in Belgium (383): 566 per Km2.

Tuesday, Nov. 10: 15,779 - deaths 35

Tuesday, Dec. 29: 32,485 - deaths 205 NB. These numbers are since Wednesday 23, not Friday 25!!!
Tuesday, Jan. 5: 32,369 - deaths 258 NB. These numbers are since Wednesday Dec. 30, not Jan. 1.
- - - - -
Tuesday, Jan. 12: 17,395 - deaths 234
Tuesday, Jan. 19: 9,770 - deaths 268
Tuesday, Jan. 26: 9,123 - deaths 242

Tuesday, March 2: 11,804 - deaths 56
Tuesday, March 9: 11,014 - deaths 39
Tuesday, March 16: 12,762 - deaths 26

I guess the vaccinations of the most vulnerable people in Sweden are the cause of the decreasing number of deaths, but the number of new cases has been rising since Feb. 9, albeit not as fast as in October-December.

Highest number of new infections ever - 1,156, and other numbers are rising, too, e.g. 34 on ventilators. In Denmark, the current number is 25.

Wednesday:
Coronavirus - countries (Worldometers, March 17, 2021)
Deaths per million (Total deaths) New cases Serious/Critical
Sweden: 1,304 (13,228) 6,781* 261 *according to SVT.se
Denmark: 413 (2,396) 787* 41 *of 309,303 tests (0.25%); Fully vacc. 277,951 (4.76% of pop.), 1st dose only: 595,943 (10.21%).
Finland: 145 (804) 842 56
Norway: 119 (648) 1,067* 34*
Iceland: 85 (29) 2 1
Iceland has 31 active cases, Faroe Islands 3, New Zealand 97
The Faroe Islands have 4 in quarantine, 0 hospitalized.

**I don't know why Worldometers' numbers are lower than the numbers from NRK.no (See post above). It is also confusing that "Serious/Critical" for some countries, e.g. Denmark and Sweden, means people in ICUs, but for Norway it seems to mean people on ventilators, whereas for Iceland and the Faroe Islands, it seems to mean hospitalized patients.
You should be aware of other differences between countries. For instance, Denmark calculates percentages of vaccinations based on the whole population. Sweden bases its percentage on the adult population only, which makes a kind of sense since Sweden doesn't really consider children to be vulnerable.
