Ah! that is when the natural tenacity of the British bulldog rises to the fore and we make it to the top of the hill against all the odds by hiring an immigrant to push it for us.

Not always, remember the ancient British myth of 'Incy Wincy Spider'
Personification of Churchill Spirit and the Bulldog Breed.

I have seen a lot of awful jingoistic and ahistorical drivel in the last few years, but for the Daily Mail to cast VE Day as “Britain’s Victory OVER Europe” in their commemorative coin offer is a new low.
Shameful

Perhaps they went too far back in their archives and mixed up which side we were on?

Still, nice to know we can still reply on the Fail not to disappoint in disappointing.

Britain to recruit more border form-fillers than the EU has staff in total

Quote:
ritain is to recruit 50,000 more customs agents, to handle post-Brexit trade according to a report in the Financial Times yesterday, at a cost to industry of at least £1.5 billion a year. The announcement of plans to build an academy in Kent to train the agents was made by Michael Gove.

But as Jean Claude Piris, a French diplomat and director-general of the EU Legal Service, pointed out on Twitter, this is more than the entire 33,000-employee payroll of the European Commission in Brussels.

This is obviously fake news. We have been told that we are going to be using magic technology so we don’t have to deal with increased custom issues.

Not yet, in this context, but given the government's propensity for throwing taxpayers money at third rate shysters who can't deliver it seems a good bet.

Britain's £5 billion rival to EU's Galileo satellite project faces scrap

Quote:
Whitehall officials urge ministers to shut down scheme for UK satellite navigation system
Plans for Britain to join the space race with its own satellite navigation system face being scrapped as officials conclude that the ambitious post-Brexit project would be a waste of taxpayer funds.

For our next "up yours, forrins" number, we should invent our very own numeral system to replace this foreign rubbish we're using.

Maybe make it base18, too, to celebrate our sovereignty and freedom from the EU's decimal hegemony.

Telegraph even tried to put and anti EU spin on the GPS story. We weren't 'Frozen out' we left the EU!

Or maybe we should use different systems according to what we’re measuring. Say base 12 for lengths, base 16 for mass.

Or even use different bases for different places, so for length we could use base 12, then base 3, then base 22, then base 10, then base 8, then maybe base 3 again.

Is that the system whereby you will have to work well into your sixties because you will not be receiving a state pension in your old age?

Bring back 12 pence = 1 shilling, 20 shillings = 1 pound. 21 shillings in a guinea.

Given that China, Russia, India and Japan have all been putting up their own positioning satellites despite the US GPS being available, presumably there are reasons and we should expect more in the future.

The main reason being that other countries do not wish to be at the mercy of the US Pentagon military agenda for access to a GPS system.

Here's an interesting article on the subject.

There was a source book for the Call of Cthulhu rpg that explained pre decimal coinage in detail. It took about half a page, then finished with the sentence "The British resisted decimalisation on the grounds it was considered too complicated".

Stalled in feasibility study indecision after being locked out of the EU's project in 2018.

Wording is sometimes important, remember we weren’t locked out of it, we decided we didn’t want to be part of it.
