I'm only surprised this didn't happen a lot sooner. Still not nearly strong enough a condemnation, though.

Pence Distances Himself From Trump Over Jan. 6 Insurrection [npr.org]
Quote:
Former Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday night that he doubts that he and former President Donald Trump will ever see "eye to eye" over the Jan. 6 insurrection led by a mob of pro-Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol.

In a speech to a Republican group in New Hampshire, Pence called Jan. 6 "a dark day in the history of the United States Capitol, but thanks to the swift action of the Capitol Police and federal law enforcement, violence was quelled, the Capitol was secured and that same day, we reconvened the Congress and did our duty under the Constitution and the laws of the United States."

If it was only that, you'd have a point.

However, if you read what is laid out in the indictment against those 16 Oath Keepers, it was not just participating in, or being on the thread; it wasn't just them ticking the "I'm in" box. These people actively planned what they did, as early as a week after the election. If you think this was just a bunch of fabulists having a shared online fantasy, you are deeply mistaken. They were loading for bear, and there were bringing guns for a gunfight, fully intending to mount an armed insurrection and kill people doing it.
PERSON ONE: “I do want some Oath Keepers to stay on the outside, and to stay fully armed and prepared to go in armed, if they have to . . . . So our posture’s gonna be that we’re posted outside of DC, um, awaiting the President’s orders...."
On December 3, 2020, YOUNG emailed the Florida chapter of the Oath Keepers a membership application and wrote, “looking to get involved in helping….”
On December 31, 2020, another individual contacted JAMES via Signal and stated: “I have friends not far from DC with a lot of weapons and ammo if you get in trouble i can coordinate help.” JAMES responded, “That might be helpful, but we have a ****-load of QRF* on standby with an arsenal.

On December 31, 2020, JAMES messaged PERSON NINETEEN and asked, “Do we have a farm location for weapons?” PERSON NINETEEN responded, “Not that I am aware of yet. If nothing else, my hotel is in VA and has secured underground parking. About 15-20 minutes outside DC, less if you really don’t care about speed limits… would be great if we had someone with an enclosed truck type vehicle and had a quick response unit just outside the city.” JAMES replied, “I agree.”
There is much, much more. You really should read the whole document to apprise yourself of what these morons were up to (its only a 38 page PDF and its double spaced - about the same reading time as 19 pages). It will also become apparent that there are others involved that the FBI have yet to catch up with - other than the 16 Oath Keepers (including one redacted) there appear to be about 20 others (listed as PERSON ONE, PERSON TWO, PERSON THREE etc)

*QRF = Quick Reaction Force

"... we reconvened the Congress and did our duty under the Constitution." Hilite mine. There's a message there beyond distancing himself from Trump. He is never going to *slam Trump* or "break with Trump." He needs support from the crazies, any GOP politician does, which is a sorry state of affairs but here we are, even if we live in Canada.

But he is coming out for rule of law, true law and order, and the actual Constitution vs. just the Second Amendment.

He will not attack or condemn Trump. He is taking pretty solid aim at Trumpism, which I think is the bigger problem.

Who the hell uses "um" in written communications? Maybe they were all voice typing and "um" was a tell of nervousness, or their own knowledge of how nonsensical their position was. At any rate it shows they were planning for a serious act of sedition.

I've been away awhile, some of this may already have been covered.

My point was that earning a conspiracy charge doesn't take all that much. It's a very low barrier to entry.

The other thing that I find interesting is that under their own narrative, Trump abandoned them, left them all sorts of exposed. But they still give him their loyalty. I don't get that at all. Of course, the idea that Trump was going to "give them their orders" existed entirely in their own head doesn't change the fact that Trump left them in the wind, again, by their own narrative.

Just to poke back to things blamed on BLM/antifa and likely used to try to help invoke bothsiderism in regards to the Jan 6 insurrection -

Far-right militia plotted 2020 protest violence to blame on leftists, then a member killed two cops

Quote:
Now we know, thanks to federal prosecutors investigating the Oakland incident, that in fact it was not the act of a single “lone wolf” and his accomplice, but rather part of a larger plot by group of far-right extremists who called themselves the “Grizzly Scouts” and planned a series of deadly attacks on law-enforcement officers with the intent of making it appear to be the work of the “violent left.” Even more disturbing, according to the San Jose Mercury-News, most of these conspirators, following their arrests for destroying evidence in the case, have been released on bond by federal magistrates who have deemed them not a risk to the community.

Mo Brooks and his wife are Big Mad TM after finally getting served papers for the lawsuit filed against them by Rep. Swalwell related to Jan 6 attack.

Quote:
Brooks on Sunday tweeted that his wife was served the complaint, filed by Swalwell in March, and accused the congressman's "team" of criminally trespassing on his property.

"HORRIBLE Swalwell's team committed a CRIME by unlawfully sneaking INTO MY HOUSE & accosting my wife!" Brooks wrote. "Alabama Code 13A-7-2: 1st degree criminal trespass. Year in jail. $6000 fine."
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mo-broo...awsuit-served/

Brooks has been evading service for the lawsuit, a classic play by deadbeats. Ironically, the security measures at the Capitol, a response to the Jan6 attack Brooks is accused of inciting in this lawsuit, made it impossible for papers to be served at Brooks' office. Instead, a process server had to serve Brooks' wife by chasing her down at her home, which there is video of here from their surveillance cameras.

https://twitter.com/RonFilipkowski/s...85010740592644

Quote:
Filed in the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia, Swalwell's suit accuses Brooks, former President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Rudy Giuliani, Mr. Trump's private attorney, of inciting the violence at the Capitol five months ago. The California Democrat claims the group's actions related to January 6 violated federal civil rights laws and D.C. statute.

While Mr. Trump, Trump Jr. and Giuliani waived service of a summons and copy of the complaint in the litigation, according to the court, Swalwell asked the court last week for an extra 60 days to serve Brooks, citing "his ongoing refusal to waive service and the inherent difficulties of attempting service on a sitting member of Congress."

Another Proud Boy arrested.

Pretty much admitted to all the elements of criminal conspiracy via text.

Quote:
Today, agents with the FBI’s Newark Field Office arrested a New Jersey man and self-identified Proud Boy for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, which disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress in the process of ascertaining and counting the electoral votes related to the presidential election.

Shawn Price, 26, of Rockaway, New Jersey, is charged with federal offenses that include violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds; obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder; and obstruction of justice. Price made his initial court appearance this afternoon in the District of New Jersey.

According to court documents, Price is a member of the Proud Boys, a group self-described as a “pro-Western fraternal organization for men who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world; aka Western Chauvinists.” As alleged, Price held a leadership position in the northern New Jersey chapter and attended multiple events and rallies from November 2020 to January 2021. As depicted in photographs taken at the Capitol on Jan. 6, Price was on the lower west terrace helping to push other individuals forward into a line of law enforcement officers while the officers resisted and deployed a chemical irritant in an apparent attempt to disperse the crowd. In addition, on Jan. 6, Price sent Facebook messages to other users stating, “I led the storm!”, “ got really ********* up but me and 4 of my chapter brothers pushed that line and started it ourselves had to be done.”

That one, and another piece of work makes 515.

Dillon Herrington

https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...oJXTZAsWaVHxmU

18 USC § 1752 (a)(1) - Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority;

18 USC § 1752 (a)(1) - Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds;

18 USC § 1752 (a)(2)- Knowingly engage in any act of physical violence against any person or property in a restricted building;

40 USC § 5104 (c)(2)(F) - Willfully and knowingly engage in an act of physical violence in the grounds of the Capitol building;

18 USC § 231 (a)(3) - Commit or attempt any act to obstruct, impede or interfere with law enforcement in performance of his official duties;

18 USC § 111 (a)(1) - Forcible assault, resist, oppose, impede, intimidate, or interfere with law enforcement

Video shows Herrington throwing pieces of lumber and metal poles at police officers at the Capitol. Police detained him the night of January 6 after officers noticed he had a knife sticking out of his back pocket.

I think this particular piece of scum is going to spend a considerable time in the Federal Big House.

Footage shows Creek kicking an officer.
During an interview, he told investigators that he was armed with "mace and a boot knife" while at the Capitol.

Looks like another one destined for a stretch in the Federal slammer.

Another cop charged

Quote:
A Chicago police officer used the N-word and shared pictures of himself inside U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley’s U.S. Capitol office when bragging in text messages about his role in the Jan. 6 breach, federal prosecutors said Friday.

Three days before the insurrection, Officer Karol J. Chwiesiuk allegedly messaged an associate, saying he was “busy planning how to f- - - up commies” during a conversation about unsuccessful lawsuits that had been filed to dispute the results of President Joe Biden’s election.

Chwiesiuk then allegedly traveled from Chicago to Washington D.C. by car and joined the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. He was seen wearing a CPD hoodie in pictures taken at the riot, his criminal complaint shows.

But he is coming out for rule of law, true law and order, and the actual Constitution vs. just the Second Amendment.

He will not attack or condemn Trump. He is taking pretty solid aim at Trumpism, which I think is the bigger problem.
I think Pence is hoping that, if he nuances his position just right, he can salvage some sort of political future. I suspect that he is wrong about this. I think the diehard Trump cultists will always see him as having betrayed Trump, by not exercising his imaginary authority to overturn the election, and for everybody else, he is irreversably connected to Trump.

Wow! Of course any of us could have relatives that could have been there but didn't go. I have a cousin who stormed off another cousin's FB page in a huff including calling her a loser thinking she dissed Blue Lives Matter though she didn't and isn't. He's a retired cop. Oddly enough, so is my uncle, her dad, though he's not alive anymore.

And another cousin of mine is married to a guy who proudly wears his MAGA hat in their FB pics.

What was your cousin's circumstances?

In general, just a Yahoo. Raises hell when given the opportunity. In this instance, a Fed recognized him from surveillance pics, bc they live close to each other. Oh, and his own grandmother dimed him out. That whole faction of the family is nuts.

Eta: charged with the generic trespassing on govt property stuff, no weapons or anything. Frankly shocked he wasn't armed. That branch of the fam makes hand puppets out of dead squirrels.

I don't think it will save him, but I hope he's gained some perspective on exactly what kind of master he was serving. i'm content with an introspective pause if that's as good as it gets.

Not directed at your cousin specifically, but nobody was arrested that day. I’m not as surprised as I used to be about how many people actively concealed carry. If you told me there weren’t any pistols in that building that day I wouldn’t believe you.

Since "Deliverance" country is pretty much woven in to every US state then, yes.

Oddly, not really. He lives 20 minutes outside of Atlantic City, and an hour from Philly. Not exactly cut off from civilization. He's what we call a Piney, a semi-redneck from the Jersey Pine Barrens. Thing is, I never heard him say a peep about politics. If it didn't fire a projectile or get him high, he had no use for it. Just a happy-go-lucky Wildman. I honestly don't know how to process this.

There's no need to speculate, there's already been someone charged with carrying a firearm, a 9mm Taurus pistol, during the attack.

DC has notoriously strict and severe gun control laws. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the CHUDs might have decided to leave them at home. It's one thing to get whipped up into criminal action by the mob, it's another to plan to commit multiple serious gun possession felonies in advance.

Tucker on fox saying it's time for 'transparency' about Ashli Babbitt and her death.
He wants to know if the cop has a history of being 'reckless' as the family attorney believes. Apparently they are hiding the cops identity because they don't have a good explanation for the shooting.

It's unbelievable that a mob of violent angry people trying to get in a room where the people they want to attack are holed up should be viewed like that. We all saw it, multiple times. She was unfortunate enough to be the first person through the door (window in the door). WTF did the mob expect? No one had shot at them yet ergo no one would? The people inside would let them in?

Of course this is just Carlson upping his ratings by saying outrageous things.

Of course, if Ashley Babbit had been black, we'd be hearing crickets chirping!
