Beliefs as silly and irrational as QAnon aren't new. It's not all bad news, though.

Are conspiracy theories really 'a new religion'? [cbc.ca]
Quote:
QAnon, an American movement based on multiple conspiracy theories (including the belief that Donald Trump is waging a secret war against an elite global cabal of pedophiles) has been described as "a new religion", and is now making inroads into Canada and abroad.
Quote:
"For a long time, people thought that all this talk about conspiracy theories means that they must have become more popular and influential," said Butter, a professor of American Studies at the University of Tubingen in Germany.

"I would argue that all this [current] talk about conspiracy theories indicates that they are now perceived as a problem."

Because there are "surprise outbreaks" during every administration. There were several during the Obama administration, including Ebola and Zika. The Zika outbreak had in fact just wound down at the time Fauci made that statement. But of course, you have selective amnesia on this matter because the cult you belong to believes there were no modern viral outbreaks until the Deep State created COVID-19, and thus any statement made by doctors like Fauci about the potential for future outbreaks is not based on recent past experience but must come from knowledge about secret future plans.

The newest idiocy QAnons have been spreading: the no-touch forehead thermometers that health care professionals have been using to take temperatures during the outbreaks are actually radiation guns designed to damage children's brains.

And Dr Fauci, as a medical professional, can connect the dots to see that the Trump administration was in no way prepared to mobilize for the public good, should such a major outbreak occur. Much like how President Clinton warned about OBL, and the entire planet's scientific community warns about climate change, high ranking professionals in their fields sound the alarm when they see the writing on the wall. That doesn't mean their concerns were conspiratorial. It means they see that train wreck coming a mile away.

It's almost as if they wandered into the line of fire.
