Oh, I read that "could be linked" as in "the link can be made..." not as in "it may be possible to make the link...", but it's possible that my reading was wrong.

Ah, the statement was clearly ambiguous. Either of us could have been right.

"Clearly ambiguous". That's got to go on the list of top oxymorons, like "jumbo shrimp", "military intelligence" and "Microsoft works".
