Goodness me, don't you know how capitalism works? Buyers are already paying the prices demanded as a result of the previous expensive production methods. So they can afford to keep paying that when cheaper production methods are employed. In short, using cheaper production methods means more profit, not lower prices.

Sure, but it seems to be reaching a boiling point.
Hell, Irish unification seems to be a possibility, if not the mostly likely outcome, not for patriotic reasons but because Northern Ireland doesn't want to be dragged down with the rest of the UK. What a reversal of position that Ireland seems to be the better financial bet (with access to the EU) than mother Britain. |

Well, until one of your competitors decides they want to increase market share so they use their lower production costs to drop their prices.
And keep in mind that cheaper production methods might benefit consumers in other ways: - It may not drop the price, but it may keep future price increases to a minimum. (You can't compare the price today with the price yesterday; you have to compare the price tomorrow with what the price WOULD have been tomorrow without outsourcing.) - Prices may not go down on a product, but new features may be included. A feature which might only have appeared on a high-end model will be incorporated on a lower-end model. I may spend the same amount on a TV today as I did a decade ago, but instead of getting a 24 inch CRT screen, I get a 40 inch flat screen with higher resolution. |
