The last time we were in this position was the Saudi Arabia trip. How did that turn out?

Does Skype not count as face to face? Seems like a simple solution to me.
Trump cannot go to N Korea because the US will require he brings a huge security entourage with him and that would never be acceptable to Kim. I'm not sure how safe Kim feels in that demilitarized border meeting room and I'm not sure how both sides bring arms into the room. I doubt either leader would go without armed contingents. That leaves China for a location. But who knows day to day what China's relationship with Kim is. I'm voting for Skype. |

Sorry, all I see here is that Trump's imaginary version of himself includes solving the NK problem for the next couple months until the meeting time comes. Then his imaginary world will shift to excuses and blaming others depending on the actual outcome. Chances are pretty good nothing at all will change. |

Suckabee used different wording in the press conference throwing the whole thing into the Twilight Zone.
North Korea: no testing until the summit. Suckabee: NK has to go full de-nuke (which she couldn't define when asked by our gal in the pressroom, April) before the meeting will take place. Stress and failure to maintain her perfect record might be getting to Suckabee. |

It's hard to work for a president who doesn't let making appointments eat into his golfing time.

Isn’t this the chap who claimed he hit a couple dozen holes-in-one the first time he played golf?
Remind me again, which of the two was it? |

To much negativity here.
These guys might just hit it of in a great way. The nutter from USA and the nutter from North Korea. Good if they could get the nutter from The Philippines there as well. Just imagine the rapport between these guys. |

Has someone ever been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for solving a conflict they themselves created?

As noted in a link above, the likelihood of this meeting has been walked back. It will require "concrete and verifiable actions" towards NK's denuclearization.
Ain't gonna happen... |

Look at that. You want her on your team. You want her on your side no matter where you stand. Look at that woman. Unlike Trump who is a phoney, she is a force of nature. If he is really smart he will never piss her off or send her away.

Remember "Fire and Fury"? Which was going to happen any day now if NK didn't abandon its nukes and missiles? Now Trump's going to go and talk, or not, depending on whether it's him or Sarah saying it. He's already given ground. Kim's the winner.

The grown-ups have intervened, but that may not be the end of it. The prospect of an "historic" meeting may be enough to persuade Trump to carry through.
Of course, it would only be a meeting, not a negotiation. There'd be no "walk in the woods" - those are too thoroughly mined in the DMZ, apart from anything else. |

Yeah that's the book that is going to bring the impeachment at any minute. Plus the author said that Trump is having an affair right now and the chick is mentioned in the final chapter of the book. The problem with that is that he isn't having any affair right now.
The thing that everyone remembers about that book is that they forgot about that book. |

What I'm worried about is what happens should Trump meet Kim-Jong In and get some kind of agreement. But North Korea will take whatever is offered without complying with its side of the deal (like before).
Trump might feel like George Bush when he realized that Putin had played him. A bad agreement could make war more likely than no deal at all. |

I think the extent of Trump's "victory" has now been seen and is done. He thinks he won because he got Rocket Man to agree to a meeting. He got Mueller off of page one for a couple of days and can brag to his next rally about what a manly man he is.
Someone pointed out to him that Rocket Man, Rocket Man's Daddy and Rocket Man's Grand Daddy have been pushing for meetings with US presidents since Grover Cleveland. Everyone's always said, in no uncertain terms, "No!" Now that L'il Kim's got nukes, of a sudden the POTUS is going to meet with him? Who looks stronger and who looks weaker? There is no scenario of L'il Kim leaving North Korea/China for a meeting. Even China might be a risk. The Kims don't travel on planes but more important is they don't stray from home. The chances of a coup back home are far greater than the chances of him being assassinated in the DMZ or Seoul or Beijing. And if Kim won't leave the country, that leaves the POTUS (a.k.a. "the mountain") who will have to go to Muhammad. Ain't gonna happen. |

Some third or fourth of the posters in this thread are blinded by their two-bit chauvinism, talking as if Trump is the man and have won a duel. That is unrealistic and infantile.
Nothing is gonna come out from the negotiation but the certainty for South Korea that the USA is not willing to abandon their position of world gendarme. Achieving South Korea and the USA to grow apart is probably Kim's main goal. |

Good point: if the North is seen as having made a good faith effort, more South Koreans will come to the conclusion that the US doesn't want peace on the peninsula.
