ISTR other new members have sometimes experienced this particular problem, so the mods probably know how to fix it.

Welcome to the forum.

The mod team is aware of this problem, and someone who has more buttons and more technical knowledge than me will be fixing it as soon as they can.

G'day everyone!

Thought I would finally join, contribute and hopefully ask some questions though nothing much harder than rocket science . Quick summary, I'm an Australian skeptic, australian wildlife survivor indie game developer and software developer.

Cool. I love it when we get someone with some expertise on the board to answer questions in their subject area.

I notice you crossed out "australian wildlife survivor".

Yeah, I survived Australian wildlife. Oh wait - no I didn't. I just remembered - I was eaten by a crocodile in 1986. Hah. The things you forget.

I'm an expert in computing and graphics with very amature knowledge in astronomy. I certainly would like to ask lots of questions that are complicated like rocket science but a would be limited in answering too much about them. I am eager to see if my knowledge in computer rendering matches reality with photography and moon landing denial.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Wasn't she one of the bigger names involved in the "There are satanic cults underground run!" stuff in the 90's?

Hello all!
My name is Antonio and I come from Italy.

I am a left wing fanatic and I have already been banned from quite a few forums recently, so I have learned how to be more tolerant

I will do my best not to be banned again here

When you say "banned again here", do you mean you have been banned previously?

I read it as "banned again, here".

I would like to extend Antonio a hand of friendship and say that this particular forum is fairly uncompromising, and has a pretty high standard of behaviour compared to other forums. But if you read your Membership Agreement carefully and stick to it, you can have a long and happy time arguing your pants off.

When does this website become a chat? How wrong of me I've been acting as this is a serious place devoted to scepticism!

The above post made in September of 2015 was apparently Jim_Mich's last post in this forum.

Through my participation in another forum in which we both frequented, I'm aware that he passed away in December of 2016. He used the same forum name there, so you could search and find more information if you want.

I wasn't sure where or even whether to post this, but I thought some here might like to know. He seems to have done most of his posting in the JREF forum from 2007 to 2010.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

There is a chat, by the way. It's not formally affiliated with the forum at all, but a bunch of us hang out there. Either use a browser at skepticsrock.com or set a client to irc.skepticsrock.com channel #chat.

Thanks. I should have thought to look there directly. Instead I did a couple of quick searches with the forum's search feature without much luck. "RIP" is too short a search term, apparently.

Thank you for the info.

It means that it's kind of a goodbye for me. Now I see why so many posters are not ashamed of the level of what they post (besides the Dunning-Krugger thingy).

Maybe we should appeal to management for a "Buh-Bye" thread. This one's the Welcome New Members Introduce Yourselves Here thread.

So, welcome one and all. As you sadly note the departure of Mr. Cowan, let this be a lesson to you. If the fact that there was actually a "Forum Chat" comes as a surprise to you after being a member for eight years, maybe you're not availing yourselves of the resources of the forum. As we slog through the tedium of being True SkepticsTM, there are threads in Forum Community, Humor, Hobbies and DIY, Entertainment, Arts and Lit, Sports,... all sorts of things. At least two, perhaps more, of our most prolific posters spend the bulk of their time in "Humor", for instance.

That task corresponds to the people leaving lately.

You left scepticism long time ago, though I reckon the tedium is still with you.

I suggest for you to recover the spirit, not to post in the publicly visible parts of this "thriving community" other time than Monday to Thursday, GMT. On weekends your posts exhale no fresh breeze and your argumentations are sitting ducks.

Old newbie here. I used to post on the old board, but didn't realize I was already signed up for this one and tried to register...and got rejected, of course.
Luckily, I remembered both my original name and my password, and was able to sign in.
Did I miss anything in the last couple of years?

Welcome back Czarcasm, the same juicing as before just different (though not always) piglets. I did have a bout of the banning sickness, but I got better.

Bunch of stuff. There was this one thing where someone claimed something and no one could believe it and they fought about it with a bunch of bad feelings on both sides. But that got resolved last year.

And then Trump happened.

Did I miss anything in the last couple of years?

There was the big giveaway where all the members who showed their loyalty by promptly signing up for the new board got free BMWs and the actor or model of their choice.

Is there a section that describes the mark up available on this forum? Is there a way to embed videos?

I will use this post to do some experimenting. If there's a sandbox I could play with, hope someone will let me know.
