During a panel with the Council on Foreign Relations in 2019, Mattis said that "when the time's right to speak out about policy or strategy, I'll speak out," adding that he disagreed with other officials who immediately "get out and start talking."
I knew he criticized Trump and Esper for the Lafayette Square incident. What I hope for, perhaps foolishly, is that even when such officials are not speaking publicly, they are making damn sure that senators and congressmen understand that Trump is a threat to national security. But then again, they probably already know, but are hoping they will somehow be able to manage Trump while seeing his loyal supporters as their best chance for re-election in their states. (I hope they're wrong about that; I don't think it's going to work for my state's Republican senator.)

Hmmm. They're calling the socialist 911 government program for help for some reason.

Way too many boats, too close together, moving too fast for the distances between them. I suspect wake issues, rocking, tipping, flooding, etc.

Boating is one of those things that requires a lot of awareness of how your behavior impacts others around you.

Not shocked Trumpers are having trouble with it.

Too dumb to social distance even in boats.

Probably ninja'd on this but the "armless vet" touched by Trump never served in the military because of being born without arms.

It takes a lot to make a boat sink on a lake. It looks like these guys were actually driving in each others' wakes.

This isn't getting way enough traction that it deserves. He is trying to assert this as evidence that he cares - that he called Mel in the White House.

IT'S A FRIGGIN LIE

His alibi does not hold up.

If this were a black person accused of a crime, how far would it go for them to claim that they called someone thousands of miles away when they were staying with them?

Shoot, that wouldn't even work for a white person accused of a crime. But the president is just allowed to make up a nonsense alibi?

He must be some other kind of “vet”. Trump’s crew would not lie about such a thing.

I think a different paragraph perfectly sums up the Trump presidency.
Quote:
When the decision was made to cancel the visit to the Aisne-Marne cemetery, no aides cautioned Trump that it would play poorly, which he later blamed on Gen. John Kelly and one of Kelly’s top aides, Zach Fuentes. One person familiar with the discussions in the aftermath said Trump accused them of “f*cking him” by not predicting the inevitable fallout.
1) Trump could not understand, on his own, that not showing up would play poorly. He has no idea that other people have their own feelings, goals, and emotions that are both nothing like his and completely valid.

2) Rather than admit that he made a poor decision, he accuses others of ******* him over.

I would be amazed if Trump could give a coherent answer to the question “why was there fallout after you didn’t show up?”

The Democrat elites doubtlessly had to molest and eat several babies to convince Satan to attack this Trump parade.

It's not just a poor decision, though. Even if he wanted to be apologetic, what would he be apologizing for? His mortal fear of precipitation? His terminal laziness? His petulance at being made to feel like an outsider by his European betters?

Unfortunately for President Piece O'****, there was never going to be a good explanation/excuse/lie for why he wouldn't drag himself out of his room to make this scheduled appearance.

I think we're going to be seeing a lot more of this type of thing, but mostly in car parades. I just saw a Facebook post setting one up for tomorrow afternoon. For celebrating America in general and Trump in particular. I was pissed -- why not make it inclusive? Situations like this can only inflame tensions. I didn't bother replying as I don't want to get involved in any political posting on FB. Which, among my Friends, has held up pretty well.

Trump ‘Doesn’t Deserve To Be Commander-In-Chief’ Says Sen. Tammy Duckworth | Deadline | MSNBC

Listen at the 5:40 mark when Duckworth describes her comrades risking their lives to retrieve her, even though they thought her dead. Then try and imagine Donald Trump making a sacrifice anywhere close to this.

Can't do it, can you.
I’m having a hard time imagining that he’d be willing to walk across the room to save the lives of four Americans he didn’t know. And if you told him that he would not receive any recognition at all for doing it? I could more easily imagine that the StarWars universe is real.

Most immediate reactions:
1. ew, gross. I'd probably feel gross where he touched me for hours or days.

2. touching someone's face sounds like a genuine act of emotion and empathy, the kind of thing you do not for optics or ratings, but because you really care.

In other words, there is no way this story is true.

3. the Trump was Einstein, and everyone applauded!

"Antifa Navy" is currently trending on Twitter, as self-proclaimed admirals are announcing that an operation to sink the boats of Trump supporters with soup-torpedoes was a smashing success.

It's just a bunch of owners of pleasure boats, large and small, on the lake at the same time. It's not too different from any other summer day at a large lake, the difference in this case being that Trump supporters made arrangements to festoon their boats with Trump campaign flags all at the same time.

Trump-support has become something of a cult of personality; for the supporters, their status AS "Trump supporters" has invaded every aspect of their identity, so that many of them are taking completely mundane personal or family events - like a trip to the lake, or a family barbecue, a wedding in at least one instance - and turning them into ad-hoc political rallies by having everyone wear clothing or carry flags proclaiming devotion to Trump.

A compendium of Trump's tweets might aptly be titled Screaming from the Bunker: The Ravings of a Lunatic.

The Trump campaign is broke

Quote:
It’s been no secret that the Trump campaign is a cesspool of nepotism and corruption. It’s also telling that while the Biden campaign triumphantly announced a record-shattering $365 million haul for August, the Trump campaign has been notably silent.

And then there was that most telling of tells—the Trump campaign going dark during its convention week, pulling all TV advertising from the airwaves. A cash-flush campaign would use TV to reinforce the convention’s message, and there was no reason for the Trump campaign to not be cash flush, right? But there was literally no other explanation to their advertising silence: they were broke.
Quote:
On Thursday, records filed with the Federal Communications Commission by Phoenix-area television stations showed that the Trump campaign cancelled all of its ads between Sept. 8 and Sept. 14. The air time totaled approximately $580,000 in the Phoenix media market, which includes most of the state except for the areas surrounding Tucson and Yuma.

FCC records also show that the Trump campaign stopped advertising on Tucson television stations about two weeks ago.

Nah, Trump's not fanning the flames of violence. His rhetoric isn't encouraging these Second Amendment Gun Rights Militia nut jobs to commit violence. Not at all:

Feds Charge ‘Second Amendment Militia’ Members Who Allegedly Wanted to ‘Pick People Off’ During Kenosha Protests

Quote:
Federal prosecutors have charged two Missouri men with a slew of gun-related charges after a recent trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of WisconsinMatthew D. Krueger, 40-year-old Michael M. Karmo and 33-year-old Cody E. Smith were arrested and charged with multiple felonies after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) received a tip.
Quote:
“Karmo told CW he was going to go to Kenosha with the intention of possibly using the firearms on people,” the complaint goes on. “CW feared that with KARMO’s increase in conspiracy theory talks and other ‘crazy’ political talk he was not in the right mind set to have a firearm.”

Both Karmo and Smith admitted to traveling across state lines with several guns in their possession because they wanted to participate in a rally held by President Donald Trump and to verify his claims about the civil unrest that has occurred in Wisconsin since the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

“Smith stated they attended the rally for President Trump outside of the high school in Kenosha,” the complaint alleges. “Smith stated they wanted to see proof of the rioting.”

The Trump train in a nutshell.
